Besides The Lonely Monkey story, there is other story that catches my eyes and attention, and it is Toddle

Waddle written by Nick Sharrat and Julia Donaldson. Unlike the previous story, this story is more real. It is also simple, yet amusing which suits the vigor of young leaners. For that matter, it is believed that this story could achieve the ultimate aim of storytelling which is acquiring language skills. To start with, the story goes about telling an adventure of a little boy and his family spending their weekend together out and about painting the town red. Surely, we all have done the same thing as well. As the story goes further, the little boy attentively observes many things along the way and around him. He pays attention to every single sound produced by whatever things around him. This shows that young lads are resplendent with curiosity and they want to know more why things are like this and how they are produced. What moves this story is its characters. The main character of the story is the main reason why I choose this story. Undoubtedly, he is an adorable lad, yet he is observant and inquisitive. Ting-a-ling (pg. 9), the sound produced by the bicycles bell proves that he gives full attention to every little sound produced by everything around him. He also intrigues to know more and wants to explore more. Unlike any other kids are confined at home, he goes out to the town and explore what the town has to offer for a little kid like him. Choo choo! (pg. 18) elucidates the experience that he goes when boarding a train. In addition to the selection of this story, the setting of the story also influences my decision. There are many places being highlighted in the story, such as, the park, the beach and the pier. Each of these places has witnessed its own significant events that make this story more titillating. To exemplify, at the pier, the little boy watches a group of musician playing musical instruments that produce distinct sounds like, thrum thrum (pg. 22). Other than that, what draws me to choose this story is its language used. The diction in this story puts the emphasis on the style of enunciation in speaking. It is no doubt more and more sounds being introduced and exposed to the pupils so that they would

familiarize themselves with the sound of English words. For example, the sound, buzz buzz (pg. 17) helps pupils to enhance their z sound pronunciation. Last but not the least, children books, as always come with excellent illustration. The images are clear and colourful, in fact. Their size is big enough for pupils to see and understand the images. What is great about this arrangement is that every passage is accompanied with an image to explain better. More about this story is that the length of the story is suitable enough for young learners. It contains 20 pages with great illustrations.
