A. Group Assignment I (25% of continuous assessment)

Expected Learning outcomes

On successfully completing this assignment, students will be able to:

• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology in clinical problems

• Present logical argument and systemic organization in oral form
• Develop interpersonal skills in teamwork and leadership

Presentation Dates: In weeks 6 to 9 Tutorials

Topics:

1. Discuss the clinical applications of diagnosis diseases on using nine regions and
four quadrants in abdominopelvic cavity. What are their limitations? With illustrated
examples, what further tests are required to confirm the stated disease?

2. A postmenopausal woman fell on the floor and broke her hip. Please state the
condition she may suffer. Explain the change of bone density throughout her life by
discussing the bone cell metabolism, hormonal changes as well as other lifestyle
factors.

3. Your nephew has been learning about cells in science class, and now he refuses to
take a bath. He asks, “If all cells have a semipermeable membrane, and the skin is
made up of cells, then won’t I swell up and pop if I take a bath?” Explain the relevant
anatomy to your nephew. In addition, you should also explain to him the possible
consequences of not taking a bath.

4. Simon is a F5 repeater who will attend the HKCEE again in this year. He always
feels depress and under stress. Lately his girl friend Becky broke up with him. Simon
is heart broken and started cocaine abuse for a “rush” of pleasure and energy.

One day, you saw a straw in Simon’s room and then he became another person in just
10 minutes after sniffing. As a friend, you persuade Simon to quit cocaine abuse by
explaining to him the effect of cocaine on the Central Nervous System at synaptic
level and how neurotransmitters will cause intense cravings of cocaine.

Guidelines:

• Form a group of 5 to 6 students and identify a group leader

• Choose one topic from the above list
• Set aims and confine the title of the group project
• Plan and set time schedule for discussion etc.
• Do literature search from magazine / journal. State the source clearly in the
reference section.

before the start of the presentation. Apart from the content, the PowerPoint should
clearly state the division of work among group members with their student
numbers (preferably to include a group photo) in the final 2 slides.
• Limit the presentation time within 25 minutes. All members should take part
in the oral presentation.
• Present in ENGLISH
• The critique group must at least raise 1 question in the Q & A session.
• Bonus marks (1 to 3) will be given for individual students in each group based
on their presentation performance.
