Hannan October 16, 2012 The Strength of the Pack Rudyard Kipling once wrote, For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack (http://www.kipling.org.uk/kip_fra.htm). Leaders in society appear strong and powerful on their own. However, each individual has the support of people helping him or her succeed in making a change. This shows that a single individual does not have the power to change the world. The great characters of our world always have a group of people supporting them to achieve their goals. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams has the power to control the Salem witch trials because of her friends supporting her false indictments. Together, Abigail and the girls created an act that caused the town to believe their accusations towards good people like Elizabeth Proctor. Another instance is when Mary Warren tries to prove Abigail is a fraud in the court. When Abigail defends herself by pretending Mary is in league with the devil, the girls follow her example, Abigail, pointing with fear, is now raising up her frightened eyes, her awed face, toward the ceilingthe girls are doing the same (Miller 119). Any uncertainty Mary had created toward Abigail vanished from the court officials mind. Abigail would not have been able to completely revolutionize the behavior of her town without the girls supporting her decisions. At the start of World War II, many individuals were working to revolutionize the aerospace industry. Wernher Von Braun is recognized as one of the greatest aerospace engineers

Clark 2 to ever live. His goal was to change the limits of humans and put man on the moon. However, Braun could not have accomplished this without the resources of the German and American governments. He worked on the development of rockets for the German military during World War II. Before the Allied capture of the V-2 rocket complex, von Braun engineered the surrender of 500 of his top rocket scientists, along with plans and test vehicles, to the Americans (Green). Braun surrendered himself to America because he knew he would need their help and resources to expand his rocket research. During his career, Braun managed to put the first American satellite in space. He also helped design the rocket engine that sent man to orbit the moon in the Apollo 8 expedition. These great feats of engineering could not have been accomplished without the combination of Werhner Von Brauns hard work and research or the resources the United States provided. A person whose entire career is working to create change is a politician. This work will not be successful without votes and support from the people. The President of the United States would not have the power to carry out his ideas if the people did not vote for him. Politicians trying to pass bills rely on special interest groups for fundraising and support of the cause. Special interest groups draw attention to issues and try to persuade people to join the cause and support a state representative. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance House Bill 739 requiring ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). A state representative cannot pass this bill without support from the people and legislature. The support of the community is crucial for politicians to do their job. An individuals need for support is crucial when working for change. Without the help from Abigails friends, the witch trails would have never happened. Americans may not have landed on the moon without the contribution of Werhner Von Braun. Additionally, a politician

Clark 3 needs the support of the people to succeed in making a change in the community. A single individual simply does not have the power to create change on their own. It takes dedication and strong followers to support a leader for any revolution working to make a difference in the world.
