Hi Guys.. I work sometimes on big files which contains areas created as group hole, and I need to cut a part of some areas.. If I did that in active design file I'll loose the group hole (maybe color or shape or mode), so becoz of that I attach that file as a reference & clip it with a fence then select clip boundary from the reference dialog. But when I need later on to relocate the fence for some resons like minmize the part which has to be cut.. I feel that I have to repeat the job. So is that possible & how? Sorry for my bad english language. Thanx in advance for any respond & help.

Hello Al-Maraghi, In the References dialog, highlight the desired reference, then under the Tools menu, select Delete Clip. In v8 you can highlight multiple reference files & check Use References Dialog List ON in the Reference Clip Delete toolbox. Also in v8 you can create a shape element, use Fence by Element to create the clip boundary, and the shape is associated to the reference. Then when you modify the shape element, the reference clip is automatically changed to match. Thanx so much for ur resopnd.. I'll try to do that & test it.. Well iam using Microstation J, but what I need right now to know how to associate the shape with the reference? Once again thank you for the detailed information..

Hello Al-Maraghi, The association feature is not in v7, it is in v8. In v7 I usually keep shape elements (to define clip masks & clip boundaries) on a non-plotting level, or as construction-class elements (with construction elements set not to plot). I use these elements to create a Fence by setting Place Fence to Element. I believe that in v7 you cannot 'delete' a clip boundary, BUT! you can CHANGE the existing clip boundary by creating a different fence, and re-applying the Define Clip Boundary tool from the Reference dialog to your selected reference file. First zoom your view to contain the entire file, and create a construction-class shape around the entire file. Then add additional construction-class shapes that define the desired clip boundaries and clip masks for your reference self-attachment. Use a separate level for these shapes - do not place them on a level that contains other elements. Perhaps you could place them on the 'sheet border' level if you keep them as non-plotting construction-class elements, but use different color/weight attributes than the sheet border element so they do not interfere with Batch Plot. To change the clip boundary, use Place Fence > Element to highlight and accept the large overall boundary shape element, and define the ref's Clip Boundary with this fence. Then modify your desired-clip-boundary shape element(s) to the new requirements, use Place Fence > Element to highlight and accept the modified small boundary element, and re-apply the Clip Boundary. This boundary will not be 'associated' to the reference file display because that is a v8 feature. In v7, you must use the rather cumbersome process that I described above. Remember this is a self-attachment. Keep the display of the boundary elements level OFF in the reference file. Turn the level ON in the master file when you need to modify the clip elements. Do not delete these elements if you must make multiple changes to the clip elements in the future. Again Jeffrey Thank You so much.. I did it excatly same as what you mentiond & its great. I placed the shape on construction class type, so later on I can turn on & off when need that. Finally I got it.. The thing which makes me like this news group is the guys like you who are available when someone needs help. God bless you all.
