MECH8013 Mechanics of Machines

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module you will be able to: 1. Creatively solve machinery problems and develop designs. 2. Evaluate machine designs, components or processes recommending improvements 3. Holistically solve machinery problems and design systems, by applying professional judgement in balancing risk, cost, benefit, safety and reliability 4. Carry out experimental work on machine systems 5. Write clear and concise laboratory reports on experimental work relating to machinery

MECH8013 Mechanics of Machines

Topic 1 - Mechanisms
Recall from last year Graphical method used Analytical method will be covered in detail of rigid body rotation

MECH8013 Mechanics of Machines

Topic 1 - Mechanisms
The right-angle bar rotates clockwise with an angular velocity which is decreasing at the rate of 4 rad/s2. Write the vector expressions for the velocity and acceleration of point A when =2 rad/s.

MECH8013 Mechanics of Machines

Topic 1 - Mechanisms
For the instant represented when y=160mm, the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder C imparts a vertical motion to the pin B consisting of y = 400mm / s and y = 100mm / s 2 For this instant determine the angular velocity and the angular acceleration of link OA. Members OA and AB make equal angles with the horizontal at this instant.

Dr. Andrew Cashman

MECH8013 Mechanics of Machines

Topic 1 - Mechanisms
This topic will initially address kinematics of rigid bodies and then progress to analysing kinetics of rigid bodies. We will use some lectures as tutorial sessions where you can attempt worked examples in class in preparation for exams.
