1. We tried to define biodiversity write down here what you now understand by the word BIODIVERSITY.

. What I understand by this word is to describe the variety of living organism found on the planet. This also includes ecosystems or any genetic diversity and every connection between these and all species the term used to describe the variety of life found on Earth and all of the natural processes. 2. Around the world are various biodiversity HOTSPOTS. What do you understand by this term, hotspot? Are areas with a high amount of species diversity, but they are threatened by human or natural activities to extinction. Hotspots are the most remarkable places but they are also the most threatened. 3. List some of the more famous biodiversity hotspots, and beside each, very briefly say what makes it a hotspot or why it is determined or conserved as a hotspot. 1.Caribbean islands- have been devastated by deforestation and encroachment. 2.California floristic province- Wilderness destruction caused by commercial farming is a major threat for the region as the California Floristic Province generates half of all the agricultural products used by U.S. consumers. 3.Madrean pine oak woodlands-Unfortunately, the destruction of pine forests due to excessive logging is the leading cause of habitat loss in this region. 4.Mesoamerica- many endemic species of which are in dramatic decline due to an interaction between habitat loss, fungal disease and climate change. 5.Cape floristic region Home to the greatest non-tropical concentration of higher plant species in the world. 6.Coastal forest of eastern Africa- Agricultural expansion continues to be the biggest threat facing the Coastal Forests of East Africa. 7.Eastern afromontane- the main threat to this region is the expansion of agriculture, especially large crop plantations for crop 8.Guinean forests of West Africa- Logging, mining, hunting and human population growth are placing extreme stress on the forests, 9.Horn of Africa- Overgrazing is the most destructive force, but charcoal harvesting along with unstable government control have also been major problems. 10.Maputaland, Pondoland and Albany- increased threats from industrial and local farming and also the expansion of grazing lands. 4. Where is the hotspot? Why is it especially important? What important species are present? Who looks after or is responsible for the conservation of this hotspot?

The California floristic is where my hotspot is located, is recognised by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. But this huge and beautiful ecosystems suffers from serious threats caused by humans growth. California is among the top seven countries in the world within economy, the most populated and the fastest growing state in all United States, this whole facts makes California floristic province a specially important hotspot. It has the largest breeding within bird in all the United States. It holds a number of threatened species but the most important ones are the giant kangaroo rat and the desert slender salamander, and theres also some condors that can still be found there. California has spent lots of money for conservation and forget more abour habitats for protection than any other place in the US. The hotspot includes two of the oldest national parks established in the United States: Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park (which provides protection to the biodiversity in the southern Sierra Nevada
