PROGRAMME STRUCTURE:3.1 The two-year full time PGDM Programme prepares students to assume operational leadership roles. The curriculum is continuously evolving with a supporting pedagogy in sync with the changing needs and aspirations of the Corporate sector. The Programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, Government of India, New Delhi. The focus in the first three academic terms will be on Foundation courses. Specialization will commence from the fourth academic term and the academic structure will be a combination of core & electives. Ordinarily students will be provided with an opportunity to pursue studies in the field of their specialization/special interests, subject to minimum student enrollment* and other allied academic considerations decided by the Management from time to time. The decision of the Management shall be final & binding upon all students. One academic term shall be dedicated to the Industry Internship Programme (IIP), which has been dealt with under a separate section. We believe that what our Graduates learn will equip them with an intellectual depth that will suit for a wide range of professional careers. The Acharya School of Management thus prepares its business leaders to face the challenges of tomorrow.

PEDAGOGY: 5.1 The pedagogy shall be a blend of lectures, case discussions, term papers, seminars, presentations, projects (both secondary & live). The students are expected to understand the concepts to be discussed in the session by reading in advance the study material/prescribed textbooks, analyze and discuss the case with team mates and then contribute to the class discussion, through active participation. In a B-School setting, Instructors play the role of enablers and facilatators in the students learning process. Surveys & Studies suggest that perhaps only a quarter of the learning process comes from the Instructor and the rest from the students own application, research and peer -based learning. Hence the onus is on the student to make sure that (s)he puts in the required efforts to derive as much value as possible from the teaching-learning process.

The Academic office will provide timetables to enable the Faculty to plan their teaching commitments. As a matter of policy, no classes will be cancelled OR rescheduled. The Academic Coordinator may, under compelling circumstances only reschedule classes, in which event the Class Representative shall be duly notified. The minimum attendance norm shall be 75 percent. The Academic Office shall keep a record of attendance of all courses based on inputs provided by the Faculty / ASM office. Proxy attendance is strictly prohibited and will lead to disciplinary action. No waiver shall be granted on the minimum attendance norms for medical reasons (except in the case of forced hospitalization and/or contracting contagious diseases). No waivers will be granted on the minimum attendance norms for attending conferences, management fests, seminars, sports events etc., even if the student is representing the School. The 25% grace is allowed to cover all such contingencies. In any case, students must ensure that they do not use up their grace in attendance early in the course. Since most courses have continuous evaluation, students are strongly advised to be regular in attendance, as lack of attendance can severely affect their academic performance. In case of shortage of attendance below the stipulated norm, a student shall be disallowed from taking up the mid and/or end term examination and the course shall be marked as Incomplete or I. However in all such cases, in order to complete the course requirements a student shall be required to fulfill the various components of the Academic Remedial Programme (ARP) which has been dealt with under a separate section.

9.0

NORM FOR PROGRESSION/ PROMOTION FROM ONE ACADEMIC TERM TO ANOTHER: 9.1 In order to qualify for progression/promotion from one academic term to the next term viz., term-I to term II; term II to term III and so on, a student has to score a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.50 in each and every academic term. In the event a student fails to obtain the requisite GPA, then (s)he will ordinarily not qualify for promotion to the next term unless and until (s)he fulfill the requirements under the Academic Remedial Programme (ARP) and makes good the academic deficit. The details of the Academic Remedial Programme (ARP) have been dealt with in a separate section.

9.2

9.3

10.0

ACADEMIC REMEDIAL PROGRAMME (ARP): 10.1 BACKGROUND: Remedial education is education which is designed to bring students, who are lagging behind, up to the level of academic achievement realized by the peer group. There are a large number of reason(s) why a student might need remedial education. Some of them include: Some students had attended Schools / Colleges of poor quality and didnt receive adequate grounding in certain subjects; Some students may have been transferred in and out of schools or missed schools due to parental pressures and/or problems and/or other family compulsions; Frequent ill-health; Some students have learning disorders and others issues which impairs their ability to learn.

During the Academic Remedial Programme, the Instructor will attempt to bring such students up to speed, so that they have skills comparable to those of their peers. For the present, there shall be 4(four) components of the Academic Remedial Programme. These include: 10.1.1 REPEAT A COURSE. 10.1.2 MAKE-UP TEST. 10.1.3 GRADE IMPROVEMENT TEST. 10.1.4 SHORTAGE OF ATTENDANCE. 10.2 REPEAT A COURSE: 10.2.1 A student who receives a grade of F in any subject has to necessarily repeat the course. 10.2.2 The said course will be in addition to all the existing courses scheduled in the current academic term and shall entail a fee payment of Rs. 9000/- (Rupees Nine thousand only) per subject. 10.2.3 A student cannot, under any circumstances, carry a grade F in the grade sheet. In effect, should a student secure a grade F in term-I, then (s)he should repeat the course in term II itself and clear the examination along with the other subjects of term-II. Under no circumstances, can the grade F be carried forward to term -III. 10.2.4 A student who receives a grade D in any subject is well advised to repeat the course to ensure that his/her GPA in the academic term does not fall below the prescribed norm for progression/promotion from one academic term to another.

10.3

MAKE-UP TEST: 10.3.1 A student who secures a grade of B- or less in any subject could consider a make-up test purely on a voluntary basis. The result of the make-up test will only replace the grade of the end term examination component. The evaluation of other components will, however, remain unchanged. 10.3.2 Further, only one make-up opportunity per subject will be given in one academic term. The fee for make-up test will be Rs. 3500/- (Rupees Three thousand five hundred only) per subject. 10.3.3 The make-up test may be in the form of a written Examination and/ Viva-voce and/or Term paper and/or Assignment and/or Seminar. The mode shall be discussed and decided by the Academic Coordinator in consultation with the concerned Faculty member. 10.3.4 In case of a make-up test, the final result of the subject will be dropped by one level viz., if the final grade is C+, then a grade C will be awarded.

10.4

GRADE IMPROVEMENT TEST: 10.4.1 During the two year programme, it is plausible that a student believes that due to circumstances beyond his/her control, his/her academic proficiency level in a certain subject could not be fully demonstrated / exploited and therefore, believes that (s)he should be afforded yet another opportunity to demonstrate. 10.4.2 Keeping in mind the aforesaid set of considerations and the ambitious academic goals & aspirations that students pursuing professional education set for themselves, the Acharya School of Management has introduced the Grade Improvement test. 10.4.3 It shall be explicitly understood that a student will be afforded only 2 (two) opportunities for Grade Improvement during the course of the entire two year programme. The first opportunity shall be given in the first year (a student can avail any time between the Ist & IVth trimester). The second & final opportunity shall be given in the second year (a student can avail any time from the Vth trimester onwards).

10.4.4 The procedure for taking the Grade Improvement test shall be as follows:(a) A student shall submit an application to the Head of the School stating the reason(s) for taking the Grade Improvement test. (b) A designated Committee of Faculty duly constituted by the Head of the School shall review the merits of each case and may allow an opportunity to the deserving student(s) to improve his/her grade through a Grade Improvement test. (c) The Committee shall satisfy itself with respect to the demonstration of academic commitment and/or scholarship, and/or professional conduct, and/or attendance, and/or other research pursuits, and/or any other substantive inputs as evidenced through appropriate records of the concerned student. (d) In case the decision is favorable then the Faculty shall administer the Grade Improvement test. The mode of the test may include term papers and/or seminar and/or examinations and/or case analysis and/or projects. In case of the grade improvement test, the final grade shall be suitably changed to reflect the changed academic proficiency level, if any. (e) The decision of the School shall be final and binding upon each student. (f) The cost of each grade improvement test shall be Rs. 7500/(Rupees Seven thousand five hundred only).

10.5

SHORTAGE OF ATTENDANCE: 10.5.1 Irrespective of the extent of shortage of attendance, every student shall explain in writing the reason(s) for the shortage of attendance to the full satisfaction of the Head of the School. 10.5.2 Wherever necessary, the Head of the School shall constitute a committee of Faculty to enquire into: (a) the reason(s) for the shortage of attendance; (b) the genuineness of the case; (c) the facts & circumstances of the case. 10.5.3 The Committee shall thereafter submit its findings together with its recommendation to the Head of the School. 10.5.4 In case the Head of the School accepts the recommendation, then a two pronged action is envisaged: One - Irrespective of the extent of shortage, a student shall be required to demonstrate his/her academic commitment by undertaking an appropriate academic load (in terms of assignments and/or projects and/or research based papers) as may be advised by the concerned Faculty to make good the academic deficit [as reflected by the shortage of attendance]. Two - In addition to the above, the student shall be required to pay such penal fines as per the table given below:RANGE OF ATTENDANCE 74% - 70% 69% -65% PENAL FEE PER SUBJECT Rs 2500 Rs 3000 Rs 3500 Cannot write the examination (Mid/End-term)

10.5.5 In case the recommendations are not accepted, a student shall be required to repeat the course afresh. 10.5.6 The decision of the Management shall be final & binding upon a student. 10.5.7 Non-conformance of one or more of these provisions shall render a student unfit for undertaking the end-term examination and the student shall then he required to repeat the said course.

10.6

GENERAL: 10.6.1 A student cannot, under any circumstances, review and/or revisit his/her grades upon progression / promotion from one academic term to the next academic term. For illustrative purposes, when a student progresses to academic term-II, a student cannot revisit the grades of term-I and decide to take either a make-up test and/or repeat a course and/or grade improvement test. 10.6.2 The Acharya School of Management reserves the absolute right to introduce additional components and/or substitute and/or modify one or more components of the Academic Remedial Programme based on the Academic records of a student and/or the merits of each case. In all such cases, the decision of the Management shall be final & binding. 10.6.3 It shall be clearly understood that the Academic Remedial Programme and its various components are designed to provide an additional opportunity to demonstrate performance to deserving students who exhibit good conduct & behaviour. The Management of the Acharya School of Management, however, reserves the right to debar students who have a bad history of behaviour and/or have complaints lodged against them.

11.0

ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIPS & LINKAGES:11.1 It is well recognized that linkages and connectivity with select leading educational arms of Corporates and/or Academic and/or Research Institutions (in India / Abroad) will (a) enhance the academic & research capability of its Faculty and thus the Institutions long term positioning in the academic community (b) enable students to acquire specialized domain knowledge & skills and (c) impact both employment & employability. Given the above, the students are advised / counselled to enroll for one or more Professional Certification courses during the currency of the PGDM programme on self-sponsoring basis. The mere fact that the Institution counsells and/or refers such Certification courses does not cast any responsibility and/or obligations, direct or indirect, upon the Institution, either in terms of its costs and/or its outcomes and/or any other commitments.

12.0

AUDIT COURSES: 12.1 Audit course(s) are designed for students who are interested, have the necessary academic orientation & aptitude and most importantly, have the commitment and willingness to meet the academic rigour of the programme. These course(s) are primarily intended for students who want to gain an indepth knowledge and/or learn a new skill and/or to upgrade an existing skill and/or use an Audit course as a pathway to develop professional interest in a particular domain. The duration of Audit course(s) shall be of the same duration as a creditbased course. It shall be viewed as an enrichment course and an opportunity to experience the joy of learning course(s) connected or otherwise with the main stream of specialization. Students interested in taking Audit courses must register for the same in the registration form. Verbal requests shall not be entertained. A token course fee of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees five thousand only) shall be charged per Audit course. The Faculty reserves the right to refuse a student to enroll for an Audit course based on the assessed academic potential.

12.3

12.4

13.0

STUDENT COUNSELLING: 13.1 Students generally have a positive frame of mind and approach all academic related requirements with confidence, decisiveness and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success. However, at times, a few students experience / demonstrate symptoms such as performance anxiety, stress, insecurities etc due to the competitive setting of the professional programme. To effectively deal with such academic & non-academic issues & concerns, appropriate Institutional mechanisms exist. Counselling shall be done to (a) enable students to perform creditably at the Institute and (b) draw realistic career goals & aspirations, reinforce selfbeliefs, inculcate professional values, set the right expectations, develop a distinct personality and thus students will be helped to emerge as responsible citizens and confident & competent professionals. Unresolved issues / concerns / problems if any, can be escalated to appropriate forums & addressed within the ambit of the rules & regulations and the larger Institutional philosophy.

14.0

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES:14.1 Life at the Acharya School of Management is a fine balance of fun and study. The vibrant Campus life affects the after-class and quality of living experience significantly. Our advice to all incoming students is: learn the fine art of being settled, managing the academic curriculum and then plunge into extra/co-curricular activities. The best guide is your Faculty Mentor assigned by the Academic Coordinator. The environment and culture of the Acharya School of Management is geared to handle students with: 14.3 Dramatically different beliefs and philosophies; Widely divergent expectations; A high focus on academics, conservative and middle-of-the-road approach to cultural activities; Different personalities and orientations; and adventuresome spirit.

14.2

Under the overall guidance, supervision & mentorship of the Faculty Mentors, the extra/ co-curricular activities are designed, structured, aligned to and integrated with the academic framework. The level of independence associated with the conduct of the extra/co-curricular activities is quite amazing. But at times, the whole excitement of being independent can be dampened by an overwhelming sense of ownership & responsibility (let us gently remind ourselves that students are under training). Each of the Programmes & activities have a specific timeline, learning objectives, desirable and measurable outcomes, ensures high student participation and requires oodles of creative energy round the year. The events are successful, students are happy and the learning is quite diverse: expect the unexpected, learn about the stages of cultural adjustment, managerial skills, language proficiency and the like. Students at the Acharya School of Management enjoy themselves, are helped to adjust socially and this collectively impacts their overall academic performance positively. There are plenty of stress busters and culture shock relievers on Campus to get away from the mundane academic routine. Hobby Societies, volunteer services, and sports are some of them.

The traditional pedagogy may not suffice to give the best results. Increasingly, survey findings reveal that there is little OR no fit between the B-School curriculum and the requirements of the Corporate and also there is no fit between the aspirations of B-School students and the expectations of the Corporates who recruit them. Therefore, an apprenticeship period in a real life situation helps the Graduates to achieve handson-training in execution and delivery of expected results. The constant interaction with the Industry Mentor [from the organization in which the student interns] and the Faculty Mentor leads to a healthy synthesis of practical experience with the theoretical inputs. A constant upgradation & updation of curriculum by the Faculty to match the real needs then becomes a proactive process. The Faculty too, benefits through interaction with the corporate community. The method ensures a continuous evaluation of the student interns thorough a comprehensive grade sheet of many of the latent talents like professional judgment, data handling and analysis, decision making abilities, initiative, leadership and team building approaches etc. that may not be entirely visible during the classroom simulations. The industry has the benefit of direct access to expertise that can be monitored and evaluated by them over a period. There is value addition as projects relevant to the industry are executed with the help of trained graduates without additional cost to the Company. The industry has the opportunity to evaluate and recruit the intern at the end of the programme, as the intern would have completed all the requirements of the PGDM Programme. The IIP would be evaluated and credits assigned towards the PGDM Diploma. AVERAGE (CGPA) FOR
