TASK 8 TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH USING QUALITATIVE METHODS SUCH AS

Who mainly listens to that music the genre is stereotyped to be associated

Why they listen to Rock they listen to it as it brings forwards some darker
and serious issues. It goes against the rules and the music often leads to an
adrenalin boost.
How often they listen to the music very frequently, it makes them feel
comfortable and they become more relaxed.
What they would like in magazines they would the magazines to contain current artist who refer to
the genre, interviews, latest news of the stars, gigs and current trends.

Target Audience Research based on the focus group


For the task I found a focus group of 6 people and asked them questions about the genre and what
their expectations are of a music magazine.
The 6 boys I asked were all followers of rock with a similar interest to me for a music

SECTION 1-THE FRONT COVER (QUESTIONS 1-3)

1. Front cover what images would you like?


The images on the front cover should be a single picture that should take up the majority of the page and
be eye-catching, the model should be male and meet some of the stereotypes and target audience of my
magazine.

2. What would like to see on the front cover e.g. sell lines?
For a rock magazine, there should sell lines which would interest the audience, there could me a mention of
famous artists of the genre. Also interviews and fashion stories to show the magazine has more to offer.

3. What colours would be appropriate?


The colours of the magazine should be dark to associate with the music, colors often reflect mood and
colors such as black and red mean that an unusual and anti-norm feeling is created.

SECTION 2 THE CONTENTS PAGE (QUESTIONS 4-6)

4. Contents page - what type of images would you like and how many?
There should be numerous images relevant to different articles (such as interviews)

5. How much images and text would you expect?


There should be some relevant text which goes along with both pictures, but there should be numerous images
so we know what is in the rest of the magazine so we continue to give our attention to the magazine.

6. What type of language?


The language should correspond to the genre, it should be fairly informal but yet descriptive of the article is
describing.

SECTION 3- THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ARTICLE (QUESTIONS 9-12)

7. Double page what choice of images would you want?


There should be at least one image, it must be large and eye catching and reflect the genre. It should show
personality and due to the scale we can get a feel for the atmosphere and mood in which to the individual is
representing.

8. What would you prefer the article to be about?


The most typical way is to do an interview with the individual and it should be about some of their band
work but also about their lifestyle outside of what we already know. The interview would be on a new artist
which would mean that they could be introduced and the audience would find out vital information.

9. Would you prefer more image or text based articles?


There should be a dominant image but also there should be some related text which would fell up a quarter
of the double page spread. The image needs to draw attention and then they would read the article as they
want to know more.
