I! we appl" the 23>+ color code and show all eight wires our pin, out looks like this(

Note that pins 4 2 @ and > and the blue and brown pairs are not used in either standard. :uite contrar" to what "ou ma" read elsewhere these pins and wires are not used or reAuired to implement 600'+S),T= duple*ing,,the" are ?ust plain wasted. -owever the actual cables are not ph"sicall" that simple. In the diagrams the orange pair o! wires are not ad?acent. The blue pair is upside, down. The right ends match 45,42 ?acks and the le!t ends do not. I! !or e*ample we invert the le!t side o! the 23>+ BstraightB,thru cable to match a 23>+ ?ack,,put one 6>0C twist in the entire cable !rom end,to,end,,and twist together and rearrange the appropriate pairs we get the !ollowing can,o!, worms( This !urther emphasiDes I hope the importance o! the word BtwistB in making network cables which will work. 4egional Skills )nhancement Training !or Tech,8oc Teachers 9 )#S * N) II

Fou cannot use an !lat, untwisted telephone cable !or a network cable. Gurthermore "ou must use a pair o! twisted wires to connect a set o! transmitter pins to their corresponding receiver pins. Fou cannot use a wire !rom one pair and another wire !rom a di!!erent pair. Heeping the above principles in mind we can simpli!" the diagram !or a 23>+ straight, thru cable b" untwisting the wires e*cept the 6>0C twist in the entire cable and bending the ends upward. /ikewise i! we e*change the green and orange pairs in the 23>+ diagram we will get a simpli!ied diagram !or a 23>' straight, thru cable. I! we cross the green and orange pairs in the

23>+ diagram we will arrive at a simpli!ied diagram !or a crossover cable. +ll three are shown below.
