Ashley Baker:

After searching for a team on the English 420 website, I came across your job ad. My ability to research
topics and write documents effectively has prepared me to work alongside of other individuals in
completing a group project. My commitment and organization skills enhance my ability to fill this
position of a team member.

I am currently a student at Purdue University studying to earn my B.S. in Youth, Adult, and Family
Services. Last spring, I completed CDFS 316, which is a required research course for my major. In this
course, we worked in teams of four members to write a research paper. This included developing a
research question, finding previous research on our topic, developing and conducting a survey, compiling
all data from our survey results, analyzing this data, and stating all findings in a final research paper.

During the semester we learned many research techniques that will help your team to complete a quality
White Paper. I can read qualitative and quantitative research papers quickly and determine whether they
were appropriate for a specific topic. I can use a computer analysis program (SPSS) which completes
different analysis tests such as ANOVA, T-test, regression, correlation, and chi-squared. I know correct
APA formatting skills both in-text citations and references. As team leader, I was expected to organize
team meetings, monitor my team’s progress, and proofread each portion of the research paper before
turning it in. My organization skills enabled me and my group to complete these tasks in a timely
manner. I spent many extra hours outside of class in order to ensure quality writing in each section of our
paper. My team received the highest grade in the class on our final research paper.

My skills as a writer have improved greatly in the past four years. While studying at IUPUI, I learned
how to write persuasive, creative, and professional papers. I have also had experience using Microsoft
InDesign. I am willing to learn to use other computer software in order to complete the necessary tasks
for this project. My class schedule is very flexible and I am willing to put in extra hours to complete this
project.

I will create a separate post with both my class schedule and a list of articles I found while researching
one of the White Paper topics. I am willing to discuss my qualifications in more detail if necessary. I
look forward to seeing you in class at the job fair. You can contact me by email at lperagal@purdue.edu
or by phone at (317)-697-0093. Thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,
Liann Peragallo
