English songs can get the students integrated to English elements especially
in pronunciation. English song had direct influence on the pronunciation skill.
Through English songs students can repeat the words as they do the actions when
they are speaking with teacher and also it helps students to recognize words and
meaning more easily especially when the songs are supported by pictures and
actions. The statement of the problems of this study were; (1) Are English songs
effective in teaching students English pronunciation for the eighth graders of
SMPN 1 Sukamulia in the school year of 2011/2012? (2) To what extent is the
effectiveness of English songs in teaching students English pronunciation for the
eighth graders of SMPN 1 Sukamulia in the school year of 2011/2012? The
purposes of this research were to find out the whether English songs are effective
in teaching students English pronunciation for the eighth graders of SMPN 1
Sukamulia in the school year of 2011/2012 and to find out the extent effectiveness
of English songs in teaching students English pronunciation for the eighth
graders of SMPN 1 Sukamulia in the school year of 2011/2012.
The design of this research was a pre-experimental research. The population
of this study was the eighth graders of SMPN 1 Sukamulia in the school year of
2011/2012. The sample of this study was VIII D which consisted of 34 students
which was taken by using cluster random sampling technique. The data collection
was done by giving pre-test and post-test to the students. The t-test was used to
analyze whether the alternative hypothesis was accepted or not.
Based on the results of this study, the present researcher found that mean
score of pre-test was 50.2 while mean score of post-test was 58.5 and based on
the t-test at the level of significance () 0.05%, t-test was bigger than t-table that was
t-test = 2.91 > t-table = 1.70. It means that there was positive effect of English songs
in teaching English toward students English pronunciation for the eighth graders
of SMPN 1 Sukamulia in the school year of 2011/2012.

Lagu bahasa Inggris dapat memadukan unsur-unsur dalam bahasa Inggris
terutama pelafalan/pengucapan bahasa Inggris. Lagu bahasa Inggris mempunyai
pengaruh langsung pada keterampilan pengucapan kata-kata. Melalui bahasa
Inggris siswa dapat mengulangi kata-kata seperti yang mereka lakukan ketika
mereka sedang berbicara dengan guru dan lagu bahasa Inggris ini juga dapat
menolong siswa untuk mengenali perkataan dan arti dengan mudah terutama bila
lagu tersebut didukung dengan gambar dan aksi dari lagu-lagu tersebut. Masalah
dalam penelitian ini adalah; (1) Apakah lagu bahasa Inggris effektif dalam
mengajar pelafalan kata bahasa Inggris siswa pada kelas delapan di SMPN 1
Sukamulia pada tahun ajaran 201/2012? (2) Sejauh mana tingkat keefektifan lagu
bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar pelafalan kata bahasa Inggris siswa pada kelas
delapan di SMPN 1 Sukamulia pada tahun ajaran 201/2012? Tujuan penelitian ini
adalah untuk mengetahui apakah lagu bahasa Inggris effektif dalam mengajar
pelafalan kata bahasa Inggris siswa pada kelas delapan di SMPN 1 Sukamulia
pada tahun ajaran 201/2012. Dan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana tingkat
keefektifan lagu bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar pelafalan kata bahasa Inggris
siswa pada kelas delapan di SMPN 1 Sukamulia pada tahun ajaran 201/2012.
Rancangan penelitian ini adalah penelitian pra-eksperimental. Populasi
penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMPN 1 Sukamulia pada tahun ajaran
201/2012. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas VIIID yang terdiri dari 34 siswa yang
diambil dengan menggunakan sampel kelompok sebagai kelas eksperimen.
Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memberikan pre-test dan post-test kepada
siswa. T-test digunakan untuk menganalisis apakah hipotesis alternatif diterima
atau tidak.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, peneliti memperoleh nilai rata-rata pada pretest adalah 50.2 sedangkan nilai rata-rata pada post-test adalah 58.5 dan pada t-test
dengan taraf signifikansi () 0.05%, t-test lebih besar dari t-tabel yang was t-test =
2.91 > t-table = 1.70. Ini berarti bahwa ada pengaruh lagu bahasa Inggris dalam
mengajar bahasa Inggris terhadap kemampuan pelafalan kata bahasa Inggris siswa
pada kelas delapan di SMPN 1 Sukamulia pada tahun ajaran 201/2012.
