CLINICAL TIPS 1. When a plantar flexed angle is required (e.g. Achilles tendon injury) but your patient still needs to weight-bear, add an internal heel wedge to the walker (see ssur Heel Wedge on page 9). This positions the ankle in the desired angle whilst maintaining a vertical tibia and avoids stress on the knee joint. 2. Applying a walker can create a leg length discrepancy. The Evenup Shoelift keeps you balanced - see page 9.

EVENUP SHOELIFT
Used in conjunction with an ssur Walker (page 3), the Evenup helps prevent back, hip and knee injuries by leveling a patient's gait. It is the only removable, reusable and adjustable shoelift on the market. Your patient will feel better while walking in a fracture boot, wound healing boot or cast when you apply an Evenup to the opposite shoe. It fits the right or left shoe. It can adjust from 1cm to 2cm lift. The Evenup can also be used as a temporary shoe raise of 1 or 2cm, helpful in gait diagnosis.

The Body Armour Toe Guard provides protection for the toes when accidental contact could cause pain or be detrimental to the healing process. The guard can be adhered inside a CAM walker or post-op shoe. It works particularly well when K-wires are present and post op protection is required.

The DARCO MedSurg Shoe is designed to provide the foot with solid protection and accommodate bulky bandages with ease. It features a square-toe design to provide added protection for the toes. The sole has a metashank design that provides added support to the metatarsal region when walking. The DARCO MedSurg Shoe has a velcro closure across the front which can fit up to a 17 inch circumference from large bandages and dressing. It also eliminates any added pressure caused by more traditional D ring closures that can irritate the forefoot area. Very aggressive tread at the midfoot provides superior traction. The reduced friction tread at the toe and heel to allow toe drag or heel scuff without tripping up the patient. The strap around the front of the ankle prevents the product from slipping off the heel. The DARCO MedSurg has a rocker bottom sole which is designed to reduce pressure on the bottom surface of your foot by up to 25% for a more comfortable walking experience. CLINICAL TIPS Custom knee braces are recommended for asymmetrical knees. If skin irritation develops during initial acclimitisation, this can be minimised by gradually building up the wearing time starting at 2 - 3 hours per day in the first week and building up by 2 hours each week. Applying a pH neutral, water-based moisturiser to the leg and daily cleaning of the silicone liners with a damp cloth are also advised. Does your patient have a conical shaped leg with little calf definition? Suspension could be an issue. The AMS calf wrap is an additional option that wraps around the upper calf aiding suspension. The orthosis consists of an aluminium posterior thoracic extension (PTE), shoulder straps and a compression system with pulley principle for the straightening and correction of the lumbar and thoracic spine. The tightening of the pulley system produces lordosis in the lumbar spine which improves overall posture. The shoulder strap system, similar to the principle of a rucksack, draws the shoulders back without limiting mobility in the shoulders and the arm region and without restricting chest and abdominal breathing. The straps can be individually adjusted to achieve the necessary tension. Ossur J-Tongs are recommended for use in traumatic or chronic disorders requiring longitudinal traction along the cervical spine to align the vertebral structures (reduce deformity), maintain reduction or provide stabilization. Indications include dislocation, subluxations, fractures and herniated disc. It comes in two ergonomically designed sizes to fit any patient and eliminate the need to stock multiple sizes.

SSUR THOMAS SPLINT FEMORAL # SYSTEM

The Thomas Splint from ssur offers immediate and effective treatment in the emergency setting, providing traction and pain relief to the patient. The patented, award winning design (Growing Business Awards, Product of the Year 2004) lends itself to the demands of the emergency department, due to its ease of application and adjustability. The Thomas Splint is a complete system including an optional Pearson attachment to aid early mobilisation. The Thomas Splint is fully autoclavable and requires minimal stock holdings. They are available in two sizes, adult and paediatric. FEATURES Thigh Hoop: the Thomas Splint System consist of six thigh hoops of varying sizes, all universal, left or right. The thigh hoops connect to the Thomas Splint by inserting the metal rods into the main frame of the splint, retained by a stainless steel locking mechanism. Pearson Attachment: easily adjustable to a number of leg lengths, the Pearson attachment can be added to the Thomas Splint to offer earlier immobilisation for your patient. Using the finger wheel and clamp mechanism, the Pearson attachment can be added quickly and easily onto the Thomas Splint. Splint length: each Thomas Splint is manufactured from strong, durable stainless steel. They can be adjusted to fit a number of leg lengths by easily depressing one button on each side of the splint and sliding to the length desired. Sizes can be clearly marked on the outside of the splint. Skin Traction kits: an "off-the-shelf" skin traction is available, containing all the components required to complete one skin traction application. Adhesive and non-adhesive kits are available. Two outstanding features of these kits are: 1. The uniquely designed disposable hoop covers which eliminate the need for hoop recovering. Manufactured from soft Velfoam material. 2. The slings, also manufactured from soft Velfoam, provide an alternative to using bandages. The slings enable quick application and offer excellent support and comfort for your patient.
