MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH

Visual impairment is associated with developmental delays in reading, and learning in general, because 80% of what a child learns for the first 12 years is obtained through sight. This year, vision tests for 1st, 3rd and 5th graders will take place on February 26 and 27. At the same time, 2nd, 4th and 6th graders will have their hearing tested. Unfortunately, vision screenings cannot detect every vision problem a child may encounter. A comprehensive exam with an eye doctor is the only way to identify the source of certain vision problems. If your child is showing any of the10 warning signs listed below, we encourage you to seek advice from a qualified eye doctor. For more information, please visit www.thevisioncouncil.org 1. Squinting, closing or covering one eye 2. Holding a book too close to the face 3. Losing his/her place while reading 4. Headaches, nausea or dizziness 5. Excessive clumsiness 6. Tilting the head to one side 7. Frequent daydreaming 8. Using a finger as a place marker while reading 9. Performing below potential 10. Think and Wonder, Wonder and Think. Dr. Seuss In todays world of multimedia flooding our senses at all times, its important to take time to just think. Unplug a bit and ponder big thoughts. There are so many movies, TV shows, video games, and music that fill our heads with someone elses thoughts that its vital to clear your mind on occasion and see what your own thoughts are. Wonder about where youre going, think about what you want. Ponder the great mystery of life and see what you come up with.
