REGION TWO
REGION TWO
Teachable moments are not something that you can plan. They happen with children at all ages, all the time. They can be thought of as a quick moment in time when your childs interest in a subject is at its highest, usually because she is curious. What does a teachable moment look like? Its different for each age group and for each child. Below are just a few examples.
TEACHABLE MOMENTS
INFANTS:
Repeat sounds and words your child uses and have a back and forth conversation. Encourage your child to explore toys in a variety of ways. Does the toy make sounds, does it feel different? Play pat-a-cake to help develop your childs language, rhythm skills, and hand-eye coordination.
FAMILY FOCUS
Child Care Providers Please copy this page and share with your families!
TODDLERS:
Turn everyday routines into learning moments; use meal time as a good time to talk about hot and cold. Talk to your child as she is playing with toys. Talk to her about the color or shape of the toy. Give your child a chance to do things for herself picking up her own plate from the table and putting it in the sink. Turn a shopping trip to the store into a chance to talk to your child about where our food comes from.
PRESCHOOLERS:
Talk to your child about what she is doing. Take time to sit down with her while she plays, count toys or discuss what letter items start with. If your curious preschooler nds a bug on the oor use this time to explore and learn more about bugs. Cook with your child; take time to talk to her about numbers and measurements.
Do you know somebody interested in becoming a child care provider? Have them call their local Child Care Resource & Referral Agency at 1-855-750-3343 for more information!
IDEA SPOT
This space will be available for each CCR&R to include whatever idea they would like to spotlight for that particular issue. This can be a book that they would like to feature, a fun game or physical activity, or an upcoming opportunity. This is a continuation from the Idea Spot section that currently appears on the red and blue shell for each newsletter. This would be a static element in the newsletters for each issue and would be one way to help ensure that all of the newsletters have the same basic appearance.
