Dushi Sarsfield trained in Psychology, did some accounting and then went into fu ll time music production completing

a course at the School of Audio Engineering. 'I love music, I think it's what I've always really wanted to be doing, hence t he number of U-turns.' Her latest tracks with Formation and Allsorts have been w ell received; being played by some of her own mentors such as DJ Hype on Kiss FM . Dushi's blend of melodic, soulful, drum and bass is definitely something new t o watch out for. How long have you been involved in the scene? As soon as I could get into clubs I was raving. Then I helped out with putting o n DnB nights at uni and it all carried on from there. Do you remember your first rave? That was a very long time ago, so not really... I'm sure it was probably at 'Dek afex' or 'Movement at Mass' round the corner. All I can remember is shocking out , flashing lights and serious base lines. I obviously loved it because I've been hooked ever since. Do you remember the first time you played out? I remember being very, very nervous, but loving it once I got going. Who in the scene inspired you to want to be a part of it? Dj Hype and DJ SS. They've both made wicked tunes; have a lot of respect for bot h of them. They are both very inspiring, lovely people. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Completely deaf, talking in bass lines...Seriously though, living somewhere sunn y doing what I love; making music, more releases, sharper production skills, sti ll learning, moving forwards. What was the first record you bought? Strange games and funky things Vol 3. Not D'n'B but I love all the tunes. The Le on Haywood track is immense! What other type of music do you listen to? Anything and everything... I love music, as long as it makes me feel emotion whe ther it makes me happy, sad or bounce around like a maniac - if it's got soul it doesn't matter what genre it is. It's about having vibes and emotional expressi on. What tune are you excited about at the moment? It's tough to single one out...I loved that tune byRockwell Detroit. It sounded d ifferent and had sick vibes. There's also Flavours Vol 6. Mob Tactics feat Eleph ant Man. I've always liked Elephant Man so putting him on D'n'B was always gonn a work for me, Nerve - Magic Medicine. I don't know why but it G'd me out when I hit played. And I mean, obviously my own releases; Crushed/Tweety on Allsorts a nd the Mirage EP on Formation is about to come out. What Is the most interesting place you've been to? Qatar... I had to stop over there... and that place was bizarre...to say the lea st. How many pairs of trainers do you own? This summer's been all about the flip flops. To be honest most of my money goes on equipment, knowledge and food. Who was your favourite DJ when you were a raver? Wow, loads, Nicky Blackmarket, Hype, Andy C. The list could definitely go on. What are your hobbies?

Obviously making music is my main thing, but I like anything creative. I've dabb led with film editing and 3D animation and have enjoyed putting on parties in th e past. I also really like martial arts, and meditation. I love to read when I c an. Travelling too and exploring new places and cultures. Oh, diving!!! I love t hat; haven't been able to do it in a long while, but definitely something I ador e, eating... I love my food. GTA I've been sucked in by that recently. What do you think of the direction drum and bass is going at the moment and wher e do you see it heading? I think the technical level producers are taking it to at the moment is amazing. I just hope the music doesn't get lost amongst all the technology. If you could organise a rave of your dream line up anyone from the past or prese nt who would be on it? I could probably list a whole festival line up, but to keep it short Hype, b2b, Dr Dre, with Biggie b2b with Hyper D. What do you prefer playing on decks or CDJ's and what do you think about the way CD's have taken over from vinyl? I do love vinyl and hope it survives, but on a practical level it's got to be C Ds for me. Records weigh a ton and I'm only little. What do you think of the massive chart success Drum and Bass is having at the mo ment? It's great! Nice to see drum and bass getting recognition, expanding, with more people getting into it. Nowadays when I go to the gym I hear drum and bass being played. It wasn't always like that, but at the same time it needs to remember i ts roots and stay true. What is your favourite venue to play at? That's a tough, tough one. To be honest I'm more about the vibes than the venue; it's all about the connection with the crowd; but if I had to choose maybe Bed Supper Club in Thailand Are there any up and coming DJ's or MC's we should watch out for? Queenie, Stealth, Nerve are all ones to watch. At what point was it you realised you wanted to become a DJ? I've always been into music and playing instruments. I guess it came from my pas sion for making music. I started making beats and it was a natural progression from there. When I was at school I'd spend all my lunch hours doing music, singi ng with friends and choir. They had sequencer keyboards there in the music schoo l, which I would go and lay stuff down on with my mate. Then I got that PlayStat ion music 2000 game which I loved and I started bunking off school with friends and playing with that. Then I actually got a copy of Cubase, probably one of the first ones, but it was too hard to get my head round at that point. The manual was huge and I don't think there was even internet at that point. What's a day in the life of Dushi the music producer like? Sometimes I'll be feeling creative, and sometimes I won't... if I'm not then I'l l do stuff that doesn't need that creative spark, like organising my computer, w atching tutorials, putting plugins on... tidying tunes, or just going through sa mples and then maybe something will get me vibing, but the minute I feel in a cr eative mood I jump at it. To be honest I don't know when that will come. It coul d be first thing in the morning, or late at night and then it can go on for a ve ry long time. I've pulled lots of all nighters. I've burnt food in the oven load s because I'm sucked into the music. I really do get sucked in.
