LETTER OF REFERENCE To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this letter to recommend Mr. Anh Thang Do for a master course in International Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University under the Hinrich Global Trade Leaders Scholarship Program. I am Nguyet Anh Bui, Dean of Business English Faculty at Hanoi Foreign Trade University (FTU). I have known Mr. Do since he was a student in my Translation and Interpretation classes. Based on all the experience I have had with him and on my review of his records, I can give Mr. Do my highest recommendation as a bright candidate for your Program. Since Mr. Do first attended my lecture on Theory of Translation in his third year, he has shown his positive attitude toward learning. At the beginning of each class, he always volunteered to prepare teaching materials needed for the lecture needed teaching materials for the lecturer. When problems occurred regarding his performance, he was willing to accept constructive criticisms and instructions to correct his mistakes and finish his work on schedule. Furthermore, his proficiency of English and wide-range knowledge allowed him to speak his mind clearly, communicate his ideas logically and deliver fast but interesting English - Vietnamese translation in various interpretation exercises where topics were developed from popular fields such as knowledge economy, corporate governance to more advanced and sophisticated ones, for instance economics, world politics and foreign affairs, international organizations. Mr. Dos impressive performance, however, did not end there. He also proved himself having potential to become an influential leader. Absolutely, in group discussions it was

pleasant for other fellow students to cooperate with him because he has a good sense of humor and high sensitivity and concern on the others. His leadership skills made him to take an active part in any discussion and to defend his ideas while paying careful attention to the others arguments. Besides, Mr. Dos earnest interest for community activities also struck me deeply. He has actively participated in numerous volunteering activities. He often shared me a lot about his unprecedented volunteering experience in interpreting in Hanoi Gifts Show, assisting foreign visitors, or helping local people in Cao Bang province under the Summer Volunteer Program of the Communist Youth Union. His eagerness to share demonstrated his endless concern on helping community. Last but not least, it will be my biggest mistake ever not to tell you about his family condition. Born and grew up in an extremely deprived extended family in the countryside of Hai Phong province, Mr. Do has been taught how to fight against difficulty by his parents and the nearby poor peasants. Along with studying at school, he had to work to support his parents to provide the family. However, where there is a will there is a way, his graduation from Foreign Trade University, one of the best universities in Vietnam, must have been his familys great pride. For all these reasons, I completely believe that giving opportunity to a bright young man truly understanding and treasuring the meaning of life like Mr. Do is the best decision you ever make. It would be my pleasure to highly recommend him as a desirable candidate for this program. Please feel free to contact me if you need any more information Sincerely,

Bui Nguyet Anh
