The Marquette Beautification & Restoration Committee, Inc. was established in 1978 and is a non-profit 501c3 volunteer organization. The purpose is to encourage each individual citizen to maintain and beautify his or her property and each business to beautify the city of Marquette. The committee encourages the maintenance and appropriate restoration of historic buildings and landmarks. 2014 celebrates 36 years of beautification of the Marquette area by the committee.

Vijai Pandian has served Brown County residents as an Extension Horticulture Educator since 2006. Mr. Pandian received his masters degree in horticulture from Michigan State University and bachelors degree in horticulture from India. He began working for UW-Extension in 2005 as an agriculture agent in Ashland and Bayfield Counties before moving to Brown County. As a horticulture educator, Pandian teaches the general and advanced Master Gardener training program and offers garden lectures in the community. During the growing season, he and his trained Master Gardener volunteers offer plant diagnostic consultations at the Brown County Agriculture and Extension Service Center. Pandian also serves as the director for the Brown County invasive species program that helps maintain the plant diversity by controlling invasive species in selected villages, townships, and cities.

Rich in antioxidants, blueberries are one of the most popular berry crops among gardeners. Vijai offers a simple technique to grow blueberries in a container with soilless media that can be easily amended with acid fertilizer. This presentation will teach the recipe in preparing soilless media, cultivar selections, pruning & general maintenance.
