Summary: This book is all about effective delegation. The author has
concentrated on developing a manager into an effective delegator for the
successful running of an organization. The authors have justified the process
of delegation stating the necessity of delegation, things to be delegated, the
techniques of delegation and he has also given a few tips to overcome the
obstacles of delegation.

Review :

It is not possible for a single person to do the entire job at once. So in order
to promote the organizational efficiency, to multiply productivity and to
reduce the work load , delegation becomes very necessary.

This book can be dealt into three parts:

2. Process of delegation

3. Techniques for effective delegation.


Part I:

• This part of the book deals with the definition of delegation as a key
management skill required by all the managers to develop their
managing abilities and increase productivity.

• Here the author speaks about the necessity of delegation and also
about the signs of poor delegation which includes causing conflicts
with the subordinates and the destruction of time.

• What to delegate? is a major question that the author answers in this


part of the book , where he also does not support delegating al the
activities to the subordinates and sitting idle.

Part II:

In this part of the book there is a good discussion about the process of
delegation.

• There is an explanation about the tasks that has to be delegated which


includes routine, necessity, chores and other unimportant work.

• While talking about the tasks that has to be delegated the author also
talks about the tasks that should not be delegated, which includes
rituals, policy making, handling crises and dealing with confidential
issues.

• Selecting a delegate is a very important part of the process, where


knowing the people becomes the prime thing some of the characters
of effective delegate are there evaluating capability and their will to
develop with the organization.
Part III:

Techniques and the psychology form an important part of delegation as one


cannot be successful without knowing the techniques.

• Techniques of effective delegation include preparation and holding


complete information about the problem and dispatching that
information to the subordinate effectively.

• The psychology of delegation includes motivation of the employees,


clarification of expectation and not harping on mistakes.

• Effective control techniques include directing, supervising, coaching


and rewarding.

teaches us the value of delegation .
