WRITE UP ON INTERLOCK SCHEMES (REV 1). The control philosophy for normal operation and tripping of TG set is as follows:1) Turbine Trip Solenoid Valves are energized during running of the TG set and de energized to trip turbine. 2) All parametric switches such as pressure, temperature, level etc. are normally closed during normal and healthy condition and open to Alarm and Trip. 3) For electric motor control pressure and level switches close to start and open to stop motor. The Steam Turbine Generator set is equipped with systems and sub systems that are interlocked with essential and critical process parameters for safe and satisfactory operation of the Steam Turbine Generator set. Any abnormal rise or fall within the values of the critical parameters, the standby device is automatically started, failing which, beyond the permissible limits, a parametric (pressure, temperature, level etc.) switch causes the TG set to trip through de energisation of solenoid valves SV-402 and SV-400. (For further details please refer to Write up on Steam Turbine Emergency Stop Valve). LUBE AND CONTROL OIL PRESSURE INTERLOCK (Please refer to P&I Diagram for Lube and Control Oil, Drg. No: ST-2-00-0174) The main oil pump (MOP) and auxiliary oil pump (AOP) are AC motor driven and identical to each other in motor rating and pump discharge capacity. Similarly, the Main Control Oil Pump (MCOP) and Auxiliary Control Oil Pump (ACOP) are AC motor driven and electrically and mechanically identical to each other. The Emergency Oil Pump (EOP) is 110 volts DC motor driven, the electrical supply of which is fed by a battery bank and float cum boost charger to charge the battery bank. The emergency oil pump is about 30% of the discharge capacity of the MOP or AOP. The MOP is started first to provide lube oil to the turbine, gear box and generator bearings and control oil to the servo motor and emergency stop valve through the MCOP. Through out the normal operation of the steam turbine generator set the MOP and MCOP, started in the manual mode, remain in continuous operation with AOP and ACOP in the standby and automatic start mode. The interlock between MOP, AOP and EOP is through Pressure Switches PS-400 and PS-401 respectively, mounted on the lube oil discharge header. In the event of MOP failure, PS-400 senses the drop in oil pressure and at the preset lower pressure starts AOP motor, selected in the automatic mode of control. In the event of failure of both MOP and AOP pressure switch PS-405, 406 and 407, arranged in 2 out of 3 voting logic, provides the turbine safety trip signal with alarm. Pressure Switch PS-408 provides the start permissive interlock to ACOP and in the event of failure of MCOP, by sensing the drop in control oil discharge pressure header. (Revision 1)

Pressure Switch PS-401 actuates at a lower preset value to start the EOP in the event of failure of both MOP and AOP due to which the turbine has tripped and provides lube oil to only the bearings of the Turbine Gear box and Generator during coasting down and cooling period. In case of most unlikely failure of the EOP, the Emergency Overhead Lube Oil Tank supplies lube oil to the bearings by gravity flow. During normal operation and up to operation of the EOP, the lube oil pressure in the header forces the Non Return Valve NRV-404 to remain shut and no oil flows from the Overhead Lube oil Tank to the lube oil header. During failure of the EOP, due to absence of oil pressure downstream of NRV-404, it opens to supply lube oil to the lube oil header.

CONDENSATE EXTRACTION PUMPS INTERLOCK The condensate system comprises of three AC motor driven Condensate Extraction Pumps (CEP) of 50% capacity each. At any given moment of normal operation only two CEPs would be working in manual mode from DCS, with one pump as stand by in the automatic mode. During operation of the TG set if any of the two pumps fails, it brings about a drop in the condensate discharge header. Pressure switch PS-104 mounted on the condensate discharge header acts as the first interlock, which senses the drop in pressure and starts the standby pump. The second interlock is the condensate hot well level very low, which is sensed by level switch LS-103, which signals the CEP motors to stop and issue alarm in DCS. Once the condensate level rises above LS-102 and Condensate Level Low alarm is automatically cancelled, the two pumps can be manually restarted from DCS. BARRING GEAR When the TG set is tripped or kept inoperative over long periods, the barring gear is started which keeps the turbine rotor turning slowly to enable uniform cooling of the rotor after tripping and to avoid bowing of the rotor shaft during prolonged storage. The barring gear is equipped with three interlocks namely; lube oil pressure, jacking oil pressure and turbine speed. Only after ensuring that the three parameters are normal, the barring gear motor is allowed to start. Lube oil pressure interlock is provided by pressure switch PS-402, Jacking oil pressure by pressure switch PS- 424 and speed interlock is provided by Woodward 505E controller. TURBINE START INTERLOCK. To start the TG set, the following conditions have to be essentially fulfilled: 1) Lube oil pressure normal. (PS-405, 406 and 407 contacts closed)

Control oil pressure normal. (PS-409, 410 and 411 contacts closed) Jacking oil pressure normal. (PS-424, contacts closed) (Revision 1) Vacuum in surface condenser normal. (PS-008, 009 and 010 contacts closed) Turbine casing temperature normal. Turbine lock out relay 86 T is hand reset. (86T mounted on generator relay panel) 7) All other process and machinery tripping devices such as temperature scanners, vibration monitoring system, over speed protection system etc. mounted on Turbine Control Panel are healthy, energized and reset. (Refer to list of turbine alarms and trips) Upon satisfying all the above requirements the turbine trip solenoid valve is possible to be energized (RESET) through the TURBINE RESET push button, which enables the Emergency Stop Valve to be opened through ESV OPEN Push Button. At the end of the ESV travel, limit switch LS- 400 is activated, which enables Woodward 505E to function. The RUN push button on Woodward 505E governor is pressed to start the turbine up to idling speed (80%) or rated speed in the Automatic mode of control. Any of the parameters listed under turbine trips, which upon activation, leads to safety tripping of the turbine directly by de energizing solenoid valves SV-402 and SV-400.
