Questions 19-25 are based on the speech below.

Good morning, students. I am Dr Mahendran from Mahendran Medical Centre. The topic of
my speech today is : The Importance of Breakfast.
A good breakfast is the most vital meal of the day. We need energy at the beginning of the
day. Eating breakfast makes us less likely to eat high-calorie snacks between meals or overeat
during recess or lunchtime.
Students should not skip breakfast. This is because the last time you would have had a
meal the previous night would have probably been at about 9 oclock at the latest. If, on the very
next day, you do not take your breakfast but wait until noon to have your lunch, your body would
have been without food for thirteen to fourteen hours! Your body has to work hard to break down
any stored carbohydrates or fats into a useable form. This will cause your brain to not work properly.
Eating breakfast certainly improves concentration, memory and mental functioning.
If you do not have time to take breakfast in the morning, there are many handy food items
you can bring along with you to school. Carry a bag of easy-to-eat whole grain cereal or bring a
small packet of skim milk. Other food items include biscuits, hard- boiled eggs or even peanut butter
sandwiches. You can also have a single serving of hot cereals. All you have to do is to add hot
water or milk to it, and you have a healthy breakfast.
So, I hope from now onwards, all of you students have a good breakfast every morning.
Thank you for listening.
