KARNA AND PARASURAMA The great Karna, awa from 5astinapur, also grew up as a ver powerful and generous adult. 7ur interest at present is to know about Karna:s bo hood and education etc. -or his studies, Karna went to the ashrama of 4arashurama, the 3uru of ,rahmins. 4arashurama had decided to take onl ,rahmin bo s as his disciples. The 3uru was pleased with Karna:s sincerit , hardC work, devotion and similar noble /ualities.

7ne da sage 4arashurama was resting with his head in the lap of Karna. Soon he fell asleep. 9eanwhile a big insect started to bite the thigh of Karna. 5e felt agoni2ing pain and blood started to oo2e from the wound. ,ut he endured lest the sound sleep of his revered 3uru should be disturbed. ,ut the stream of hot blood reached the 3uru due to which he was awakened from his sleep. 5e was ama2ed at the degree of tolerance and endurance of Karna who did not even stir or move his bod at such a great pain. ,ut a thought crossed 4arashurama:s mind' how could a ,rahmin bo tolerate such great painF ,rahmins are not known to show such grit in enduring ph sical suffering, rather warrior caste is known for such a feat. Thence, 4arashurama asked Karna his real name and identit . Karna could not tell a lie now. 5e told his stor to his 3uru and begged his pardon to have come in the disguise of a ,rahmin. 4arashurama was angr that he was deceived to accept a low caste fellow as his disciple. Therefore, he cursed Karna sa ing' <7 Karna, even though ou are great in braver , art of archer , and in service to me, still as ou have deceived our 3uru, $ send a curse to ou that at a crucial time on the battleCfield the wheels of our chariot will get stuck in the earth. The conse/uences would be grave.< The disappointed Karna returned to his parents. 5is restless heart wanted some change and, therefore, he re/uested his parents to permit him to visit 5astinapur.
