0 ======================== This file contains the latest information on HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0. Check this file for any last-minute notes not included in the HTRI Xchanger Suite Online He lp. See the Installation Guide (InstallationGuide_HXS6.pdf) on the installation CD f or detailed installation instructions. General ======= HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 is an integrated set of components for designing and rat ing different types of heat transfer equipment. The suite consists of a Microsoft Windows Graphi cal User Interface (GUI) and a set of calculation modules for shell-and-tube exchangers ( Xist), hairpin exchangers (Xhpe), jacketed pipe exchangers (Xjpe), air-cooled exchangers (Xace), e conomizers (Xace), fired heaters (Xfh), plate heat exchangers (Xphe), and spiral heat exchange rs (Xspe), as well as rigorous tube layout (Xtlo), a rigorous vibration analysis of a single tube (Xvib), and heat exchanger selection. Additional calculation modules will be available i n the future. e-Library Information ===================== Installation of HTRI e-Library is required to view content on the HTRI Secured W ebsite (http://www.HTRI.net). e-Library is a separate program from Xchanger Suite. This CD does NOT include e-Library. E-Library opens the door to a wealth of information on state-of-the-art technolo gy in heat transfer and fluid flow, reflecting over 45 years of proprietary research. It pr ovides access to HTRI publications, the HTRI Design Manual, technical bulletins, technical rep orts, software documentation, and much more. HTRI premium content is available to memb er companies based on the level of membership. To order e-Library, please contact Orders@HTRI.net. Previous Versions of Xchanger Suite =================================== Different versions of HTRI Xchanger Suite can exist side-by-side. Xchanger Suite versions 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0 can be installed on the same computer, allowing you to run cases in current and previous versions. Only one installation of each version is allowed at a time, so you cannot have m ultiple installations of a single version number.

Security Device Update ====================== HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 requires an update to the HTRI security device. The inst allation program automatically updates the TimeHASP or NetHASP security device attached to the PC . To update a local NetHASP or TimeHASP separately, run the HXS6HASPUpdater program from the r oot directory of the installation CD. The HXS6HASPUpdater program does not update a HASP across t he network. The HASP Updater is not required for Service Packs or minor updates. Network (Red NetHASP) Device Users ================================== HTRI software may need a NETHASP.INI file to resolve the location of the compute r to which the device is connected. The contents of the file are identical to the file that all ows other HTRI software to operate. If you cannot access Xchanger Suite after installing the so ftware, check that NETHASP.INI is located in one of the directories listed below: a) Windows system directory (by default, C:\Windows\System on Win 95/98/ME, C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory on Win NT/2000, C:\Windows\System32 on Win XP/Vista). b) Operating system directory (by default, C:\Windows on Win 95/98/ME/XP/Vista or C:\WINNT on Win NT/2000). c) Directory in the %PATH% system environment variable. d) Path and filename specified by the registry string value "NETHASP-INI-LOC" located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTRI\ Security Device Driver Installation =================================== The installation program no longer asks the type of security device (network or local) you have. The current device driver is automatically installed. If you do not wish t he device driver to be installed, you can run Setup.exe from the command line as Setup.EXE /NOHASP Doing this bypasses the device driver installation and HASP update. Alar cfiXML Import/Export Utility ================================= The Xchanger Suite 6.0 installation now automatically installs the Alar cfiXML i mport/export software when Xist is installed. cfiXML is provided for HTRI by Alar Engineering Software Inc. (www.alarsoftware.com). If you do not wish to install the cfiXML utility, you ca n run Setup.exe from the command line as

Setup.EXE /NOCFIXML Doing this bypasses the Alar cfiXML utility installation. Shared Network Client Installation ================================== After the software is installed for a shared network, the shared network clients must run SetupHXS6-Client.exe in the HXS6-Client directory. Note that the client is not a llowed to choose the HTRI Xchanger Suite components to install. Those installed in the sha red network installation are automatically selected. Online Help =========== HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 uses a new help system format (WebHelp). This new format is browserbased and displays in your default internet browser. HTRI recommends using Inter net Explorer 6.0 and later, but Firefox 2.0 and later should also work. Administrative Privilege ======================== Installation of HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 requires administrative privileges. If y ou attempt to install or uninstall without administrative privileges, the installation / un installation stops. Formula One Print Cancel Crash ============================== On some operating systems, canceling a print job from the Formula One cancel box crashes the system. The problem lies with Formula One and not HTRI Xchanger Suite. If you en counter this rare problem, save the case before printing and do not cancel print jobs fr om the Formula One dialog box. No Print Preview for Multiple Cases =================================== You cannot request a print preview for more than one case at a time. System Requirements for Xchanger Suite 6.0 ========================================== - Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 operating system - 32- or 64-bit processor - 128 MB RAM for Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003; 512 MB RAM for Windows Vista/7 /2008 - Available hard drive space for the selected modules - SVGA (800 x 600 resolution) or higher graphics adapter and display - CD-ROM drive (for program installation) Windows Vista and Windows 7 Users ================================= HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 has been tested and runs successfully on the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Windows 2000/XP Users ===================== HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 runs on all versions of Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows NT/95/98/Me Users ========================= Microsoft no longer supports Windows NT/95/98/Me. HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 is not supported on these older Microsoft operating systems. File Installation Log ===================== A text file "HXSFileset.bin" (stored in the HTRI Xchanger Suite folder) lists al l Xchanger Suite 6.0 files installed on your computer system. This file is useful for troub leshooting installation issues. If you do not wish to write the installation trace log, run Setup.exe from the command line as Setup.exe /NOTRACE Doing this makes the installation slightly faster at the expense of troubleshoot ing capability. Silent Installations ==================== HTRI does not support silent or rescripted installations or uninstallations. HTR I typically recommends against silent installations because the InstallShield response file mechanism is not very flexible for handling variant systems. Therefore, we cannot guarante e success with a silent install. However, HTRI products do have options to create a silent install. Running "setup.exe -r" creates a .ISS response file. A response file contains th e information that an end user would enter as responses to dialogs when running a normal setup. The .ISS file is a plain text file. "setup.exe -r" records your setup choices in a file named "setup.iss". You may need to search the computer for the location of this file after its creation. To use the setup.iss file to install silently, place the setup.iss file in the s ame folder as the installer executable (setup.exe), and run the setup with the "Setup.exe -s" parameter. A "Setup.log" file is created that captures setup information, including whether t he installation was successful. Please check this log to be sure the installation worked. For more information about the setup.iss file and silent installations, please s ee http://kb.acresso.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalID=Q101901

System Registry Correction ========================== The HTRI shared folder contains a batch file named "FixRegistry.bat". This batch file registers all the self-registering files distributed with Xchanger Suite 6.0. Note that th e installation program automatically handles the registration of the files -this batch file is in tended for remedial purposes only if the installation program fails or the system becomes c orrupt during operation. For more information on HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0, select the Help Topics item on the HTRI Xchanger Suite Help menu. ============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Frequently Asked Questions ---------------------------------------------------------------------------============================================================================ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------When starting Xchanger Suite, I see an error message: "Xchanger Suite was unable to find a valid license". What do I do? Xchanger Suite performs a check for a valid security device when starting the program. This message indicates that it could not find the security device or could not get a proper license to run. 1. Verify that you have a valid local TimeHASP key attached to your USB or parallel port. Try moving the device to a different port. 2. Contact your network administrator to make sure that you have a valid NetHA SP installed on your network. 3. Search your computer for a current version of the PostMortem.log file which may have further details about the problem. The correct copy of this file should be Date/Time stamped from the same time as the license error. PostMortem.log contains diagnostic information in plain text that can help HTRI isolate the exact cause of the security failure. If the problem is related to network access to a NetHASP, it is possible that your system administrator could also spot and correct the problem just by examining th e file. If all else fails, contact HTRI Technical Support with the details of the prob lem. Also e-mail HTRI a copy of the PostMortem.log file to expedite your request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Whenever I try to open the HTRI secured website, I get error messages indicating that the system is not allowing access to the page. How can I get around this?

Installation of the HTRI e-Library program is required to view content on the HTRI Secured Website (http://www.HTRI.net). e-Library is a separate program from Xchanger Suite. The Xchanger Suite 6.0 CD does NOT include e-Library. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------What are HASP Updaters? Who needs to run them, and when? When HTRI issues major releases of software, you must update your HTRI securit y devices. If your security device is present on your PC during the installation of Xchanger Suite software, the installation program automatically updates the security device and no further action is required. If you have a NetHASP or a local TimeHASP that was not on a PC during software installation, you must run the HASP Updater to enable it for the new softwa re. To manually update a local NetHASP or TimeHASP, run the HXS6HaspUpdater.exe program from the root directory of the HTRI Xchanger Suite 6.0 installation CD. If you receive a new security device (HASP) with your software, the device is current and no further action is required. If you have existing devices, you must run the HASP Updater to enable the new version. The HASP Updater is not required for Service Packs or minor updates. The HASP Updater must be run on a computer where the key is attached. It canno t update a key across the network. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------Will it do any harm to run the same HASP Updater again on the same key? You can run the HASP Updater on a key multiple times without causing any probl ems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------I am having trouble installing the NetHASP correctly. I am a first-time user. Wh at help is available? The best source of information is on the Xchanger Suite installation CD in a f ile named HASP_Manual.pdf. in the Net Disk directory. This document explains the use of the HASP devices. Another source of information is the Aladdin website: http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/hasp4/enduser.aspx You can download directly from the Internet more recent versions of the Licens e Manager and drivers to correct HASP performance problems.
