26-SAMSS-059 Insulating Oil

Scope This Specification describes the requirements of insulating oil for use in transformers and oil-immersed switchgear including cathodic protection rectifiers.

Conflicts and Deviations 2.1 Any conflicts between this Specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs), Standard Drawings (SASDs) or industry standards, codes and forms shall be resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the Manager, Consulting Services Department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran. Direct all requests to deviate from this Specification in writing to the Company or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company waiver procedure and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department, Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

References Material or equipment supplied to this Specification shall comply with the latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted. Industry Codes and Standards International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 296 Specification for New Insulating Oils for Transformers and Switchgear

American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM D3487 Standard Specification for Mineral Insulating Oil Used in Electrical Apparatus

Requirements The oil shall be virgin hydrocarbon mineral oil specifically manufactured for use as an electrical insulating oil. The oil shall contain no additives, shall be certified to be PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls) free and shall meet the following requirements: IEC 296 Class 1 or ASTM D3487 Type 1.

Qualification The supplier shall provide evidence of qualification as stipulated above together with a 1 liter sample against which all supplies of the respective product must comply, within industry accepted tolerances. Initial qualification and any subsequent formulation changes must be approved by the Responsible Standardization Agency.

Identification Each container shall be marked respectively as follows: Saudi Aramco Insulating Oil Material Master Number 1000173668 Fill date and location Batch Number Blender's Name or other identification Saudi Aramco Purchase Order Number.
Revision Summary Revised the "Next Planned Update". Reaffirmed the contents of the document, and reissued with no other changes.
