KENYAN CO-SCRITPWRITER sought by PURPLE FIELD PRODUCTIONS Background information

Purple Field Productions (PFP) is a small UK-based charity working together with people in African and Asia to make educational films in local languages.

At the request of a number of Kenyan organisations, we are currently planning a half-hour drama to address the stigma attached to children with cerebral palsy and thus to improve the lives and opportunities of those affected. The film is to be shot in Nyahururu during January/February 2015 and will be distributed throughout the country by a variety of NGOs who have promised their support. PFP has been working in close conjunction with Cerebral Palsy Africa to produce a story and scene outline that will ensure that the most important messages are all included, and that the information regarding the condition of cerebral palsy is correct. The UK scriptwriter who has been working on this outline is an awardwinning specialist in dramas to address the stigma attached to disability. We now seek a Kenya co-scriptwriter to work together with the UK scriptwriter in order to provide a dialogue and give the script a Kenyan identity. The successful applicant will be an experienced writer whose work has been produced and screened. Preference will be given to anyone who has written scripts aimed at bringing about social change or addressing social issues. Method of working There is a possibility that the UK scriptwriter may be able to travel out to Kenya this June in order to meet with the Kenyan scriptwriter, but this is by no means certain most of the work will be carried out by email, and easy access to the internet is an essential requirement for the job. Work on the script will take place initially in English, but part of the Kenyan Scriptwriters role will be to translate the finished product into Kiswahili Role of the Kenyan Co-Scriptwriter 1. To advise on cultural and other issues in order to give the script credibility and a Kenyan identity. 2. To add a touch of Kenyan humour 3. To discuss, and subsequently to provide, an appropriate dialogue working initially in English 4.
