With a driver for KW to be the focal point of all subsea and pipeline engineering, we have consolidated Petrofacs UK pipelines group as well as that in Malaysia (formerly RNZ-Pegasus). KW Subsea group continues to operate as an independent company with the vision of being the engineer of choice for global subsea developments. We are also able to integrate our services, when required, with the larger engineering resource and skills base of Petrofac to jointly undertake larger and more complex oil and gas developments. This may involve other offshore facilities such as jackets, topsides, FPSOs as well as onshore plants. We believe this is a unique offering that draws upon the wider Petrofac experience and feedback from EPC projects. KW was founded in 1999 as a high-technology engineering consultancy solving problems associated with subsea pipelines. Over the years we have grown our capability and services across the broader subsea sector providing design engineering for all phases of SURF projects, whilst also enhancing our international reputation as a leading pipeline consultant. We engage in projects that are situated in difcult environments, in deep waters, challenging seabed terrains and soils as well as high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) reservoirs and corrossive uids. We strive to extend the traditional design approaches, enabling marginal projects, but always with safety as a priority and using solutions that are t and optimised for installation and construction.

Crossing existing pipelines and cables (Goliat Development) Project highlights Gulf of Aqaba Crossing: Egypt, 2003 The 36" pipeline passes from Taba in Egypt to Aqaba in Jordan, crossing the 860m deep Gulf of Aqaba: a depth record for this size of pipeline. Both sides of the gulf are extremely steep, with numerous gullies and unstable slopes, and delicate corals at the shore approaches. Any pre- or post-lay intervention would have been very costly, with no scope for trenching or rock cover. Identifying a suitable route was particularly challenging, requiring sophisticated numerical analysis to minimise span lengths and avoid landslide run-out zones. KW supported the owner, EGC, at every stage of the project, with routeing specialists present on all offshore surveys. The nal selected route eliminated all intervention requirements, in spite of extremely challenging seabed terrain. Agiba Project: Gulf of Suez, 2005 Offshore and Onshore Support for pipeline routed in shallow waters with extensive reefs and rocky areas off the east coast of Egypt. Pipeline route optimised to avoid excessive spanning, relax installation tolerances, and avoid severe cross slopes to ensure lateral stability.
North Idku Project: Offshore Egypt, 2006 Pipeline route optimised to avoid reef and pass through at seabed to improve trenching conditions. Pipeline route length minimized. Offshore support was provided to acquire rsthand data and perform real time route selection. Survey operations were adjusted in the eld to suit selected route.
Download Monitoring System KW analysis tool In the past, assessment of the amount of rock cover has incorporated a large degree of conservatism, resulting in excessive cost to the installation contractor. Thus, KWs main OOS analysis objectives are: To provide an adequate level of safety in the operating pipeline to ensure that upheaval buckling will not occur during the operating life of the pipeline. To minimise the volume of rock required to eliminate upheaval buckling, commensurate with the requirements for adequate safety.

New design challenges in marginal elds The feasibility of constructing pipelines to transport high temperature and pressure contents has become central to the development of marginal elds. Pipeline systems with uid temperatures of 160C or more have been, and are currently, being designed. At temperatures above about 120C several factors become pertinent which are not signicant for pipelines transporting lower temperature contents. These factors include: The effect of elevated temperatures on the mechanical properties of the pipeline steel, including carbon steel, corrosion resistant alloys (CRA) and CRA lined carbon steel pipe. Practical problems encountered when designing pipeline systems that can conform to current codes based on limiting stress conditions and the relevance of limit state codes to high temperature pipelines. The requirement to adopt a strain-based design methodology. The adjective strain-based is used here to describe pipelines where the traditional limit on the equivalent stress in the pipeline is replaced by a limit on the strain experienced by the material. These factors must be resolved in order to ensure that HPHT pipelines can be operated with suitable levels of safety.

Scope of work Conceptual design of eight onshore Sour Gas Injection Pipelines by KPJV (Kazakh Project JV). The proposed development is in a congested area of existing pipelines in the Tengiz eld in Western Kazakhstan. The lines are High Pressure/High Temperature (HPHT), thick walled (600bar and 110C) and in a corrosive soil environment. The fatigue design of these pipelines is one of the many challenges on the project which will be carried out on a fast track basis. Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE) were undertaking a concept design to develop the Rosebank Development located approximately 175km west of the Shetland Islands, in a water depth of about 1100m. Gas production, less fuel gas, is to be exported to market via the new Shetland Islands Regional Gas Export (SIRGE) pipeline. Four potential routes for gas export route from the FPSO to SIRGE were under consideration. The objective of the KW Ltd role was to provide engineering support to Chevron, including a review of the wall thickness requirement for the Gas Export pipeline for the proposed options. Initial scope included working as part of TullowOils in-house team providing concept and pre-FEED engineering of the pipelines and owline scope of the subsea development; undertaking specialist studies including geohazards and SCR concept. Following on, KW was retained as the subsea management team to oversee the Subsea FEED contractor. The subsea/ FPSO development is located in offshore Ghana in approximately 1500m of water, encompassing three drill centres with manifolds, production and injection owlines, umbilicals and riser systems. Conceptual design for 36" x 19.5km pipeline. Dening the preliminary pipeline route and approaches; investigating design criteria to account for the presence of hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide.
