Whether it is political crisis in Syria or Euro crisis in European Union or any other event in any distant corner of the

world, no single country can remain immune from the repercussions of these events. The world has become so interconnected and merged politically, economically and socially that today a country cannot remain isolated despite being willing to do so. If there is stability and peace, then all the nations can reap its benefits; while a conflagration and crisis in a any far-off corner of the world can have direct or indirect bearing on many nations. This interconnectedness and interdependence of the world in economic, political and social fields is called globalization. it is the way and process in which world has become increasingly united and merged and national barriers seem superfluous. Globalization as mentioned above can lead to both positive and negative consequences. it has some positive aspects but also negative ones which evoke intense anger and hatred among many people.

Globalization stimulated by the advancement in science and technology has created many benefits for people all over the world. The inventions and progress in transportation, communications and information technology has wrought unprecedented changes in the lives of ordinary people. Transportation has virtually done away with distance; people can go round the world with affordable expenses in their lifetime. Meeting ones kith and kin in distant areas is not a big deal now. At the same time communications has created tremendous changes and opportunities for people; people can talk and chat and enjoy their lives in a better way. And the changes brought about by the information technology have been revolutionary. from the beginning of civilization up until now, it has put the knowledge of the whole world at our disposal so that we can know these things at the click of a button; and all this ocean of knowledge and information costs next to nothing. Having to know the history, culture and values

of other people gives rise to tolerance among people for other cultures because than they would not judge other cultures in the context of their own values rather they would understand the difference which is due to peculiar circumstances in which that culture grew; this can happen by reading about other people and their history which information technology has made very accessible.

The coming together of people of different nations has been helpful in dispelling hatred and misconceptions regarding each other. As people travel and meet their counterparts, they often share and discuss their differences and recognize the diversity of cultures as something to be appreciated not to be hated and denigrated. Today people, politicians and diplomats are constantly in touch with each other and interact on regular basis; this leaves no room for suspicion and miscalculation as politicians are aware of nearly everything of their counterpart. In the past the lack of communications was the cause of suspicion and often led to judgmental decisions leading to war because the opposing parties did not what her rival was up to. The lack of understanding and communications during Cuban missile crisis brought the world on the verge of a nuclear conflagration. But nothing of such a sort is likely to happen to the indebtedness of information technology.

In industrial and commercial field, it has led to many opportunities and growth. People can now try their luck in countries of their choice; it has led to unprecedented opportunities in different fields. Different organizations, mulch-nationals and companies can open branches in countries thereby stimulating economic growth. Countries that cannot exploit their resources can hire

companies etc. however, apart from these advantages globalization has led to many problems and grievances also. Whereas in some countries globalization has been received with applaud, in other countries the reaction of people ranges from anger, distrust and violent hatred. Many Asian countries are apprehensive of the effects of globalizations and see it as a disruptive force rather than vice verse. The reason is that it often leads to the dismantling of traditional values and cultures. The opening of the world to different cultures means the weakening of traditional values and customs. The process of globalization has destroyed the very fabric of society and therefore many societies deem it inimical to their culture and values. The negative effects of globalization are evident in social, cultural, political and religious fields. In the social arena, it has led to the destruction of the fabric of society. Family which is the basic unit of society has been disrupted by it as members of family leave for work and sometimes never return. Besides, it has diluted the traditional cultures by bombarding them with alien practices and concepts. The privacy of life is no more as the media invades the most private rooms of people with all sorts of disturbing images and advertisements. In the economic field, it has led to the perpetuation of poverty of the developing countries while rich countries are getting richer as a result of it. multi- national companies open branches in countries which often involves competition with the local companies and hence leads to their destruction as they cannot compete due to lack of resources. Besides, due to lack of resources, poor countries cannot exploit their resources which are carried out by foreign companies who leave no stone unturned in filling their coffers from these sources.

It also serves to perpetuate ethnicity and leads to the strengthening of identities. When the people of different cultures come together, their differences become prominent which engenders ethnocentrism in people. Thus, it breeds hatred for other cultures and pride in ones culture. Therefore, anything related to other cultures is considered as bad and suspicious. Thus, it strengthens cultural and ethnic identities rather than eliminating them. Lastly, globalization is seen as a western agenda aimed at perpetuating western imperialism on third world countries; the aim of this is the exploitation of natural resources of these countries. It is also believed that since the physical colonialism and slavery has ended after the world war second, now west has invented a new form of slavery: cultural slavery. And the globalization is the instrument by which this slavery is being executed. This globalization is a sort of cultural imperialism by which west has embarked upon westernizing the whole world. However, this has led to very intense reaction from various sources especially Muslims and Chinese. The revival of Muslim fundamentalism is a reaction to the westernization to which many Muslim have succumbed to. The reaction is of profound contempt and hatred towards western culture because it has made the youth degenerate and indifferent to their religion. The consumerism and materialism of the west invoke intense criticism from the religious circles which has penetrated their societies. Thus, many countries vehemently oppose globalization which they think is a pretext to perpetuate westernization and intellectual slavery upon them.
