Cornstalk DSM
As Iowas population becomes more diverse, it is important to bring awareness to the crop that is the foundation of Iowas past, present and future. Cornstalk DSM hopes to reach this ever growing audience to embrace Iowas agricultural roots through corn-based entertainment and education. We are excited to introduce Iowas inaugural celebration of corn, the agricultural industry and all things corny. Iowas inaugural event is set for this coming summer, July 19 21, 2013. Cornstalk DSM will be donating the proceeds to the Food Bank of Iowa. Lets get corny Des Moines!
Background
While corn plays many roles in the lives of people all over the world, it is most recognized as one of our favorite ingredients or better yet, simply eaten straight off the cob. Besides sweet corn, which accounts for only one percent of the corn grown in Iowa, field corn is instrumental in feeding our livestock, producing ethanol to fuel our cars and creating over 4,000 everyday products. For nearly two decades, Iowa has produced the largest corn crop of any state. The Des Moines Register recently reported that Iowa once again retains its title as the nations leading corn producer. Forecasts from the USDA estimated Iowas 2012 production figures would come in around 1.9 billion bushels. According to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, we are also the leading producer of renewable fuel with over 4 billion gallons of ethanol gasoline produced annually. Iowa corn has a huge economic impact on our state.
