Footprints in India
1955 Atlas Copco started as a partnership with Vulcan Trading Co. in Bombay. 1960 Atlas Copco (India) Ltd. was founded. 1987 Bhagwati Foundries Ltd, Revathi CP Equipment Co. (both later divested) was acquired by the company 1987 Chicago Pneumatic Tool company was acquired. 2000 Chicago Pneumatic India was merged into Atlas Copco (India) Ltd. 2003 The Groups ownership in Atl as Copco (India) Ltd. increased from 51 % to 84 %. 2004 Operations from Ingersoll-Rand was acquired, which is Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions division. 2005 Beacon Medaes was acquired and integrated into Atlas Copco Compressors. 2007 Mafi Trench was acquired and integrated into Atlas Copco Compressors 2007 Local centers of competence at Pune and Nashik for compressors and for construction and mining technique was created 2007 Dynapac road construction equipment business was acquired 2009 Focus Rocbit Pvt. Mining and Rock Excavation Atlas Copcos Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area provides equi pment for drilling and rock excavation, a complete range of related consumables and service through a global network. The business area innovates for sustainable productivity in surface and underground mining, infrastructure, civil works, well drilling and geotechnical applications. Construction equipment and Portable Energy Atlas Copcos Construction Technique business area provides construction and demolition tools, portable compressors, pumps and generators, lighting towers, and compaction and paving equipment. It offers service through a global network. Construction Technique innovates for sustainable productivity in infrastructure, civil works and road construction projects. Stationary Compressors Atlas Copcos Compressor Technique provides industrial compressors, gas and process compressors and expanders, air and gas treatment equipment and air management systems. It has a global service network and offers specialty rental services. Compressor Technique innovates for sustainable productivity in the manufacturing, oil and gas, and process industries. Principal product development and manufacturing units are located in Belgium, Germany, the United States, China and India. Industrial tools Atlas Copcos Industrial Technique provides industrial power tools, assembly systems, quality assurance products, software and services through a global network. It innovates for sustainable productivity for customers in the automotive and aerospace industries, industrial manufacturing and maintenance, and in vehicle service. Principal product development and manufacturing units are located in Sweden, France and Japan.

This is how we do business

Sales and service Customer centricity is a guiding principle for Atlas Copco. The ambition is to have close relationships with customers and to help them increase their productivity in a sustainable way. Sales and service is primarily direct, but complemented by alternative sales channels, e.g. through distributors, to maximize presence in the market. The Group has sales in around 180 countries and about 80% of sales are made directly to the end user. Sales of equipment are performed by engineers with strong application knowledge that has the ambition to offer the best solution for the customers specific application. The offer also includes service and maintenance performed by technicians. Service is the responsibility of dedicated organizations in each business area. The responsibility includes development of service products, sales and marketing, technical support as well as service delivery and follow-up.

Stable service business Approximately 40 % of revenues are generated from service (spare parts, maintenance, repairs, consumables, accessories, and rental). These revenues are more stable than equipment sales and provide a strong base for the business. Why service? Innovation Atlas Copco believes that there is always a better way of doing things. Innovation and product development are very important for the Group. Structure and governance


Atlas Copcos organization is based on the principle of decentralized responsibilities and authorities. Atlas Copcos operations are organized in four business areas comprised of several divisions. Each operating unit has a board which reflects the operational structure of the Group. The duty of a business board is to serve in an advisory and decision-making capacity concerning strategic and operative issues. It also ensures the implementation of controls and assessments. In addition, each legal company has a legal board reflecting the legal structure of the Group.
