IN THEIR OWN WORDS // SWIPE DESIGN by Frances Lemon
The term independent bookstore is almost an oxymoron these days, but thats what Swipe Design is. For more than twenty-ve years, Swipe has catered to the needs and whims of design fans and practitioners, with an extensive selection of books and magazines (from the inspirational to the technical), a thoughtful selection of well-designed objects, a range of imaginative books and toys for children, and an intriguing assortment of greeting cards. Cocooned in the centre of the 401 Richmond building, Swipe offers a respite from the outside buzz and bustle and a rare browsing experience, whether youre a graphic designer, web designer, advertising creative, industrial designer, interior designer, architect, urban planner, or a lover of all things design.
Over the coming weeks, new drink wares from Kinto, clocks and watches from Mondo and Braun, construction toys from Plus-Plus, gadgets from Molla Space and innovative napkins from MYdrap will bring fresh style to the store. They join proven favourites from Marimekko, iittala, Chemex, imm Living, Bosign, Bialetti, Georg Jensen, Wusthof, Areaware, Lamy, Caran dAche, Pantone, Hape, PlanToys and Fidoodle. Whether youre a regular, or a one-time visitor, complimentary gift-wrapping and friendly service round-out the Swipe experience. (Though, if you need an extra incentive, the regularly updated Swipe Sale Table is a great opportunity to pick up a bargain, with prices reduced by up to 50%). www.swipe.com

generated some buzz in Corporate Knights Magazine as they celebrated the co-operatives $3 million milestone of funds raised through community bonds for their solar projects. They installed twenty-two solar arrays last year and have thirteen already scheduled for 2014.
MUSIDEUM
was dubbed both a musical wonderland and a hidden gem by the Toronto Sun and we would have to agree with them. The intimate performance venue has made a name for itself over the last couple of years as a destination for world-class, live music.
GALLERY 44, OPEN STUDIO, A SPACE, PREFIX,ABBOZZO, RED HEAD, WARC, Y YZ, & VTAPE
received some attention from NOW Magazine in their special Think Free issue. The Free Art feature celebrated the many opportunities in Toronto to see visual art free of charge. As an added bonus, well be open until 8 pm on March 26 so you can see art after hours during Last Wednesdays.
