About the Howard University Community Development Association !CDA"


The Community Development Association (CDA) is an academic organization that serves students who are community development minors or have taken courses or engaged in internships related to community development, capacity building and community empowerment. The CDA draws on the Interdisciplinary Minor in Community Developments approach by building bridges with professionals through networking and promoting their community based engagement. The organization places special emphasis on the critical aspects of community development including political analysis, economics, business development, organizational communication, and architecture. The concerns of the organization extend to students, faculty and alumni committed to the advancement of the ideals of social justice and equity.

We are pleased to announce that the upcoming weeks are full of great programming. Black History Month is almost over but we want to give the opportunity to connect you with Black history right in the Howard University neighborhood of Shaw. This event will be held at Center City Public Charter School and is a partnership with Shaw Main Streets. ! This Thursday will also be our next general body meeting. We will be talking a lot about our upcoming Mayoral debate so come by to nd out what's going on and give your ideas!! Finally, next week is our Mayoral debate! We have eight conrmed candidates and our moderator is Paul Berry. We will be hearing these candidates discuss the issue of gentrication and their plans for the growth of DC. We hope to see you there! !

Volunteer Opportunity: CentroNia is a nationally recognized, multicultural learning community with a pioneering approach to bilingual education. CentroNa, o"ers tutoring for students in grades K # 12. They are in need of volunteer tutors to be able to continue our mission of providing educational services to these students. Jeans for Teens Drive


The CDA is hosting a Jeans for Teens clothing drive. Donation boxes will be placed in the Political Science Department and in dorms around campus. We hope that you all be on the lookout for our donation boxes and help make this clothing drive a success. Every donation counts! ! !

MLK Day with IMPACT
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the Community Development Association participated in a clean up of the Martin Luther King memorial along with IMPACT and a host of other Howard University students.
