During the month of December, The Blue Devil Times partnered with the NDHS Alumni and Feeding America to give back to the community. We gave those in need Christmas Food Packets and Holiday Turkeys to help make their holiday a little more warming. In the end, North prevailed and accomplished our goal. Happy New Year!

From the Desk of the Principal Mr. Stanley W. McWilliams

I want to personally thank the entire North Division Community, Staff and Students for your support and guidance during the 2013-2014 school year. Many diverse learning experiences will take place for our students this year. I am expecting us to be able to maintain our focus where it belongs, on student learning. It is important that we take time to reflect highlighting the effort we need to make within ourselves to remain committed to insure that all students and each student will learn. For the past two years we have set many meaningful goals to improve academic achievement and erase the negative perception that some may have about our school and children. I am very proud of the Blue Devil Staff and Students for what we have accomplished in the past two years and it is also an honor to be the Principal of such a prestigious school.

A Poem by Alexander Townsend A Gift From Heaven A gift from heaven I prayed from above, That one day I will find My own true love. A flower so beautiful Youre one of a kind; A love so pure Most will never find. A gift from heaven You are to me, Someone to love And to make happy.

Short Story by Felyne

A Poem by Adreiona Mitchell People They speak so fluent, You become avancious, They make you so egotistical, Then expectorate on your hopes and dreams, Til they become so fragile

Its my 17th birthday and as much as I already know I wont receive many gifts, but I have to be thankful for what I have. My friends are like family to me, love is a tool used by certain people, and my life is an unforgivable mistake. I also understand its my fate and destiny to carry on my life.

Letter to the Editor, written by DiOndre Mathis appeared in the December 5, 2013 JSONLINE Editorials
Dear Editor, As the years pass, the entertainment industry tends to progressively become worse. The music videos that are shown and the music that is played is mind altering and is affecting our younger generation. The media has kids believing that they should smoke drugs and drink alcohol, which poses another problem in Wisconsin today. Teenagers are also brainwashed into thinking that violence is the only way to solve a problem. We as humans are becoming more and more disoriented because of the entertainment industry. This is affecting the unemployment rates, and the rates of crime. Another problem in society that I want to address is the mainstream news. In my opinion, they are not giving as much information as they should. Most of the subjects reporters talk about are irrelevant. They are card stacking, which is telling some of the upright information, but leaving the corrupt out. In conclusion, we need our entertainment industry to be cleaner, and more appropriate.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK? BY: LAKIA THOMAS

Question: How would you improve the lunch program here at north ? Answer: I would improve the lunch program by having a different variety of foods for the students and start open lunches for juniors and seniors. -Tamia

AROUND NORTH

Question: Do you think North should have snack machines? What kind? Why? Answer: I believe that North Division High School needs a snack machine with different variety of snacks in them so kids won't have to leave school or complain about the lunches. Students could just go to the machines instead of having all the commotion over food. -Desmond

Question: What classes would you like to see offered that are not offered here at North? Answer: I think North Division should have a cooking class and also more art classes like ceramics because these are lifelong skills. -Precious

Question: What do you think about the new grading system? Explain? Answer: The new grading system is good because it makes us feel less worried about our grade, and if we get a Basic we just see it as a mistake so we hurry up and fix it to get us an Advanced or Proficient. The letter grades made many kids feel like there was no reason to try. -Tia
