Creation-Rudra Sarg Paraashar Jee said to Maitreya Muni - "I told you about Taamas Sarg (Taamas Creation) of Brahmaa. Now you listen to Rudra Sarg. In the beginning of the Kalp, Brahmaa thought that he should produce a son like himself. As he thought about it, a blue-red colored boy appeared in his lap. Immediately he started crying loudly and running here and there. Brahmaa asked him - "O child, why do you cry?" He said - "Give me a name." Brahmaa said - "Hey Dev, your name is Rudra, now you stop crying." But still he continued crying and cried seven times more and said the same thing again and again. Then Brahmaa gave him seven more names, fixed their places, gave them wives and sons. They are like this:
Eight Rudra's Names 1. Rudra 2. Bhav Places to Live Soorya Water Wife* Ushaa Suvarchalaa Son Shanaishchar Shukra

3. 4. 5. 6.

Sharv Eeshaan Pashupati Bheem

7. Ugra 8. Mahaadev

Prithvi Vaayu Agni Aakaash (sky) Registered Braahman Moon

Vikaashee Aparaa Shivaa Swaahaa Dishaa (directions) Rohinee

Lohitaang Manojav Skand Sarg Santaan Budh**

* In this copy of Vishnu Puraan, nine names are given for wives instead of eight, so it is difficult to know which wife belongs to whom. The ninth name is "Deekshaa". ** Budh is Moon's son, that is correct, but the story in Bhaagvat says he is from Brihaspati's wife Taaraa. Chandramaa got attracted to Brihaspati's wife Taaraa and got this son. Besides Rohinee was not the only wife of Chandramaa. He has 27 wives (27 constellations) all of whom are Daksh's daughters. But Rohinee is the most beloved wife of Moon, that is why she is named as his wife.

Rudra married Daksh's daughter Satee. Later she left her body because of being angry at her father Daksh (see Daksh). Then she took birth in Himvaan and Mainaa's house as Umaa. Shankar again married her. Bhrigu's wife Khyaati gave birth to two sons - Dhaataa and Vidhaataa; and a daughter Lakshmee. Lakshmee was married to Bhagavaan Vishnu. [seeDoubts 1) Maitreya said - "It is said that Lakshmee appeared from Ksheer Saagar at the time of Saagar Manthan (see this story), then how come that she was the daughter of Bhrigu and Khyaati?" Paraashar said - "Lakshmee is eternal and never leaves Vishnu alone. As Vishnu is omnipresent, she is also omnipresent. In short, Vishnu is male in all creation and Lakshmee is His female. Still whatever I have heard about Lakshmee Jee from Maharshi Mareechi, I tell you now. Listen to it."

Durvaasaa's Shaap to Indra Once Shankar's part-Avataar the great Muni Durvaasaa was roaming around on Prithvi, that he saw a garland of Santaanak flowers in the hands of a Vidyaadhar woman. He asked for that garland from her. The woman gave him the garland happily with respect. He wore that garland in his neck and continued his roaming around. Meanwhile he saw Shachee's husband Indra coming riding on his Airaavat elephant. Seeing him coming, Durvaasaa threw that garland on Indra. Indra took that garland and threw it on Airaavat elephant. The elephant threw that garland on the ground. Hey Maitreya, Seeing this Muni Durvaasaa got extremely angry with Indra. He said to Indra - "O Indra, You have become very stubborn with the pride of your wealth and prosperity, that is why you did not respect the garland given by me. Neither you said "Thank you", nor you touched it happily with your head, therefore all your wealth and prosperity will be destroyed. You took me like other Braahman, that is why you insulted me like this. At whose

anger the whole universe is frightened, you insulted the same?" Paraashar said - "Hearing this, Indra immediately climbed down from his Airaavat elephant and asked for Rishi's forgiveness. Pleased by his behavior Durvaasaa Rishi said "I am not a tender-hearted man. I don't forgive people. I am Durvaasaa Muni. Gautam etc Muni have given you lot of importance without any reason. Because Vashishth worships you, you have become so proud that you insulted me today. Who is there in TriLok who can insult me today? Nothing good will come out of your prayer. I cannot forgive you." After having said thus, Durvaasaa Muni walked away and Indra also came back to Amaraavatee (Indra's capital). Hey Maitreya, Since then all the three Lok, along with Indra's own, started depleting from their resources. Yagya got stopped. Ascetics and people stopped doing Tap, people stopped giving alms. All Lok became greedy, and because of greed Sattwa was getting destroyed, and in theabsence of Sattwa, Lakshmee also abandoned these places and so also Gun. Without Gun human beings became weak; and because of weakness they lost their honor, and their wisdom also became disassociated."

Saagar Manthan "Noticing this situation of Devtaa, Daanav invaded Devtaa. Devtaa fought with them but at last they were defeated. They went to Brahmaa Jee under the leadership of Agni Dev. Brahmaa Jee directed them to Vishnu so they all went to Vishnu on the northern shore of Ksheer Saagar along with Brahmaa Jee and prayed Him. Pleased with their prayers, Hari spoke to them - "I will increase your grace later, but now you do what I say to you. You put all kinds of herbs in Ksheer Saagar to get Amrit. Make Mandaraachal Parvat your churning rod and Takshak Naag as the churning rope, then churn the sea with the help of Daitya and me. You use politics to make Daitya agreeable to you. Tell them that they would also get share in this Amrit. After drinking Amrit, you will become mighty and immortal. Then I will find some way so that only you can get that Amrit, not Daitya. Thus they will share only the labor to churn the sea, not the Amrit." Hearing this Devtaa extended their friendship with Daitya and started churning the sea. They brought all kinds of herbs and put

them in Ksheer Saagar. They made Mandaraachal Parvat their churning rod and Vaasuki Naag their churning rope and started churning it. Hari directed Devtaa towards Vaasuki's tail and Daitya towards its mouth side. All Daitya became weak because of Vaasuki's emitted poisonous breath, but the same breath caused rain towards its tail side so Devtaa were getting strength. Shree Hari Himself took the form of a tortoise (Kashchap Avataar) and set Himself under Mandaraachal Parvat as its base, so that it does not get displaced during churning the sea. Hari had given His power to Devtaa and as well as to Asur so that they can pull Vaasuki Naag easily. With another invisible form Hari had pressed the Parvat down at its place so that it does not displace. Thus Hari had secured everything from all around with His various forms. First appeared Kaamdhenu cow who was to give all things required by Rishi Muni for their Yagya. [See the list of things coming out of the sea fromother sources] Seeing her both Devtaa and Daitya got very happy. Then appeared Vaarunee Devee, then appeared Kalp Vriksh (tree), then appeared Apsaraa, and then appeared Chandramaa (Moon) which was taken by Mahaadev Jee. Then appeared poison which was taken by Naag; and then appeared Dhanvantari carrying a pot of Amrit. All got very happy to see both. Then appeared Lakshmee Devee sitting on a bloomed lotus flower and carrying lotus flowers in her hands. Maharshi prayed her. Gandharv and Vishwaavasu etc sang and Ghritaachee etc Apsaraa danced before her. Gangaa etc rivers came there to give her a bath and Diggaj (elephants) gave her the bath with the rivers' water filled in golden pitchers. Ksheer Saagar offered her a garland of bloomed lotus flowers. Vishwakarmaa adorned her various body parts with various ornaments. Thus after taking bath with Divine water, wearing Divine clothes and jewelry Lakshmee

resided in Vishnu's heart. Seeing this Devtaa got very happy but Daitya became very angry, so they snatched away the Amrit pot from Dhanvantari. Seeing this Shree Hari assumed the form of a very beautiful woman (Mohinee Avataar), took the Amrit pot from Daitya and gave it to Devtaa. Devtaa drank that Amrit and came to fight with Daitya. But because Devtaa had already had Amrit, they became very powerful and pushed Daitya army back from the battlefield. Daitya army ran away in all the directions. Some went to Paataal Lok too. Now Devtaa again started ruling Swarg. Then Indra prayed Lakshmee Jee again." Paraashar further said - "Pleased with Indra's prayers Lakshmee Jee spoke - "I am very please with your Sootra, whatever you wish for ask for it. I have appeared only to give you Var." Then Indra asked the first Var that she should not leave this Tri-Lok; and asked the second Var that whoever worships her with that Stotra p ), she should not abandon him." Lakshmee Jee said - "I will never leave this Tri-Lok and I will never abandon whoever will worship me with this Stotra in the morning and evening." Hay Maitreya, Thus pleased with Indra's prayer Lakshmee Jee gave two Var to Indra. Thus Lakshmee was first born in Bhrigu's house from his wife Khyaati, then she appeared from Samudra. Whenever Vishnu incarnates on Prithvi, Lakshmee also incarnates with Him. When He was Aaditya, she was born from lotus flower (and was called Padmaa); when he came as Parashuraam, she was Prithvi; when He was Raam, she became Seetaa; and when He was Krishn, she became Rukminee. Thus in whichever house this Stotra is read daily and regularly, those houses are never poor."

Story of Dhruv-1

Contd... on Next Page

Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya, I told you that Swaayambhuv Manu had two sons - Uttaanpaad and Priyavrat. Uttaanpaad (Uttaanpaad's Lineage) had a son named Uttam from his beloved wife Suruchi. Raajaa did not like much his elder wife Suneeti. She

also had a son named Dhruv. One day Dhruv saw his half-brother Uttam sitting in his father's lap, so he also desired to sit in his father's lap, but Raajaa did not allow him to sit before Suruchi. Suruchi said to him - "O boy, You cannot sit here because you are not born from to me. You have no logic that is why you desire for such unattainable things. This is right that you are the son of the same Raajaa as Uttam is, but you are not born to me. This throne which is worthy to all Chakravartee Raajaa is only for my son, not for you. Don't you know that you are Suneeti's son?" Hearing such harsh words of his stepmother, the child got angry and walked away from there. He came to his mother's palace. When Suneeti saw his son coming angrily, she put him in her lap and asked - "Son, Why are you so angry? Who didn't respect you? Who has insulted your father?" Dhruv told everything to his mother whatever his stepmother had said to him. Suneeti got very sad hearing his words and said to him - "Suruchi has rightly said. You don't be so sad. Whatever you have done in your previous lives, you will have to tolerate that in this life. Therefore you should not be angry at her words. My son, who has done Punya in his previous lives only he can get good things in this life. Know this fact and be contented. Suruchi must have done some good deeds that is why she is beloved of Raajaa and I must have done some Paap (sins) that is why I am his wife only. In the same way her son must have done some Punya and you have done less Punya." Dhruv said - "Maa, I cannot digest your words, that is why I will try to achieve the highest status in all the Lok (worlds). This is correct that I am not born to Suruchi, but you will see your son in future. Let Uttam be the king. I don't want others property, I want to achieve that status which even my father has not

attained." Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya, After having said this, Dhruv came out of the palace, and out of the city in a forest. There he found seven Rishi (Sapt Rishi) sitting on deer skins. He greeted them and spoke to them respectfully - "I am Uttaanpaad's son Dhruv born to Suneeti. I am very sad that is why I have come to you." Rishi said - "O child, You are only a 4-5 year old child, we don't see any reason of your sadness. Because your father king is still alive, you have not lost your anything, you are not stricken with any disease; then what is the reason of your sadness?" Dhruv told them everything whatever Suruchi had said to him. Hearing that Rishi talked among themselves, "See how powerful are the characteristics of a Kshatriya, that even such a little child cannot pardon his stepmother." Then they said to him - "Tell us what do you want to do and what we can do for you" Dhruv said - "Neither I wish for wealth, nor for kingdom, I long for a place where nobody has gone before. Your this help will be enough if you can tell me the way to achieve it." Rishi Mareechi said - "A human being cannot get that place without worshipping Govind." Atri said - "Who is beyond Paraa Prakriti when He (Janaardan) gets pleased with whomsoever, only he can get that eternal status, this I speak truth." Maharshi Angiraa said - "If you are interested to get the foremost place, worship the same who has this world inside Him." Pulastya Jee said - "Who worships Brahm Hari only he can get even rare Moksh status." Pulah said - "After worshipping whom, Indra has got the status of Indra, you worship the same the Lord of the world Vishnu Bhagvaan." Kratu said - "Who is the Supreme Being, Yagya Purush, Yagya and Yogeshwar, nothing is available to him who worships him." Vashishth Jee said - "O Boy, If you worship Vishnu Bhagvaan, you can get whatever you wish for, then nothing

to talk about the highest status in Tri-Lok." Dhruv asked - "Hey Maharshi, You have told me about 'who to worship', now please tell me 'how to worship Him'. Rishi said - "O Prince, Listen to this methodical approach to worship Him. First you should control your Indriyaan from worldly pleasures and fix them on Bhagavaan only. With this way you should do the Jaap of the following Mantra:Om Hiranyagarbh Purush Pradhaanaavyakt Roopiney | Om Namo Vaasudevaaya Shuddh Gyaan Swaroopiney || In earlier times your grandfather Manu did the Jaap of the same Mantra. Then Janaardan gave him his blessing of his desiredSiddhi. In the same way you also do the Jaap of the same to please Govind." Contd... on Next Page

Story of Dhruv-2

Contd... from Previous Page

Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya, Hearing this, Dhruv went away from that forest and came to Madhu Van situated on the banks of Yamunaa River. Later Madhu named Daitya started living there, that is why it became known as Madhu Van. At the same place Shatrughn, Raam's brother, killed his son, named Lavan, and inhabited Mathuraa named city. Dhruv started his Tap at the same place. He did all as Rishi had told him to do. Then Hari appeared in his heart. When Vishnu entered Dhruv's heart, Prithvi could not bear the weight of Yogee Dhruv. Since Dhruv was standing on his left foot Prithvi's left part bent a little. Later when he stood on his right foot, its right part bent a little; and when he stood on his big toe, the whole Universe moved. This situation troubled Devtaa also. Yaam named Devtaa, with the consultation of Indra tried to disturb his meditation. Kooshmaand named Devtaa along with Indra tried to disturb his meditation. They created such Maayaa (illusion) that Maayaa appeared before him as Suneeti (his mother)and said - "O Son, Abandon this Tap which is drying your body. I have got you after so much efforts. It is not good to abandon your mother only just because of your stepmother's harsh words. This is the age of your enjoyment, study, playing and you are doing Tap in this age? If you will not abandon this Tap, I will commit suicide in front of you." But Dhruv could not see all this because he was so much engrossed in the meditation of Bhagvaan Vishnu. Then she ran away from there saying, "Run from here, see, these Raakshas are coming here with their dangerous weapons." And many Raakshas appeared there carrying dangerous weapons. They made a lot of noise

before him, but Dhruv could not see anything. He was solely meditating on Vishnu. Defeated by a child, Devtaa got very upset. They went to Hari and prayed Him to grant a boon to the child free him from Tap. Shree Hari said - "Hey Devtaa, He does not desire for any of your status. Whatever he desires I will surely fulfill it. You may go to your respective places without any worry, I go and grant him the boon he wants. Then Shree Hari came to Dhruv assuming His 4-arm form and said - "Hey Uttaanpaad's son Dhruv, I bless you. Pleased by your Tap I have appeared here to give you Var, so you ask for any Var." Hearing this voice Dhruv opened his eyes and found Hari in front of him. He said - "I greet you. Today my Tapasyaa has become successful because I have got your Darshan." Shree Hari said "You have got success in your Tapasyaa, but my Darshan also doesn't go waste so whatever you desire ask for it. I can give you anything." Dhruv said - "What I desire is not a secret from you. Hey Prabhu, My stepmother said to me with pride, "This throne is not for you because you are not born to me, so I ask for the highest place which is the base of whole Universe." Shree Hari said - "In previous life also you pleased me so I will fulfill your every desire. In previous life you were a Braahman. You served your parents very well. Later a prince became your friend. Seeing his wealth and prosperity you also wished to be a prince, that is why you are born as a prince in that family in which it is difficult to take birth, By my grace you will get the highest Lok, the base of all stars. i give you that Dhruv (immovable) place which is above all stars, all the planets, constellations, Sapt Rishi (the Great Bear) and Devtaa. Among Devtaa some have life of four Yug, some live up to one Manvantar (7+ 4-Yug period), but I give you the life of one Kalp (1,000 4-Yug period). Your mother Suneeti will

also live with you on a star for the same period." Paraashar said - "Thus Dhruv settled in that Lok after getting Var from Shree Hari." Contd... from Previous Page

Story of Raajaa Vane and Prithu Paraashar said - Hey Maitreya, Dhruv had two sons - Shishti and Bhavya. Bhavya had a son named Shambhu. Shishti had five sons Ripu, Ripunjaya, Vipra, Vrikal, and Vriktejaa from his wife Suchchhaayaa. Ripu had the son named Chaakshush from Brihatee. Chaakshush married to Pushkarnee born in Varun's family line the daughter of Prajaapati Veeran. They had the son named Manu.

This Manu is the Manu of the 6th Manvantar. Manu married to Nadvalaa, the daughter of Vairaaj Prajaapati. They had 10 glorious sons - (1) Kuru, (2) Puru, (3) Shatadyumn, (4) Satyavaan, (5) Shuchi, (6) Agnishtom, (7) Atiraatra, (8) Sudyumn and (9) Abhimanyu. Kuru had six sons from Aagneya - (1) Ang, (2) Sumanaa, (3) Khyaati, (4) Kratu, (5) Angiraa and (6) Shivi. Ang had a son named Vane from Suneethaa. Rishi churned Vane's right hand to get his children. They got a son named Vainya from his right hand. He was popularly known as Prithu who milked Prithvi for the good of his people." Maitreya asked - "Why did Muni churned Vane's right hand so that Prithu was born?" Paraashar said - "Hey Muni, Mrityu's first daughter was Suneethaa who was married to Raajaa Ang. Vane was born to her. Mrityu's daughter's son was of ill-natured man by nature because of the fault of his Naanaa (maternal grandfather). As he was coronated as king, he announced that "Bhagavaan Yagya Purush is me only. I am all in all, so nobody should do any Yagya, Daan (donation) or Havan (Hom) etc." Then Rishi community explained him politely - "Hey Raajan, We tell you something which is good for you and your body and your people. When we do Yagya and Havan etc you will also get their fruits. Thus Vishnu pleased with us fulfill your own wishes too. In whose Raajaa's kingdom Hari is worshipped though Yagya etc, He fulfills his desires also." Vane said - "Who is that who should be worshipped by me? Who is that Hari to whom you call Yogeeshwar, Brahmaa, Vishnu, Mahesh, Indra, Yam, Vaayu, Soorya (Sun), Agni, Varun etc? Whoever is able to give Shaap or Var, all reside in Raajaa's body. Thus the king has all Devtaa inside him. So Hey Braahman, Knowing thus whatever I have said do the same. Be sure, nobody should any Yagya, Daan or Hom etc. As a wife's

Dharm is to obey her husband, in the same way your Dharm is to obey me." Rishi again said - "Mahaaraaj, Order us like that, that Dharm is not destroyed. See, this whole Universe is the result of the material put in the sacred fire of Havan." When in spite of saying several times, Vane did not listen to them, they decided to kill him. They said - "Who insults Vishnu, he is not worthy to be the king." So they killed him with Abhimantrit Kush grass. After killing Raajaa they saw dust rising around. They enquired their nearby people about this, they said - "Because there is no Raajaa in this country that is why people are free, and they are robbing other people's wealth." At this those Muni churned Raajaa's thigh for the purpose to get a son. It produced a man who was as black as the burned wood log. He asked Braahman "What should I do?" Braahman said - "Nisheed (sit down)". So he was known as Nishaad. His descendents were known as Nishaad. They lived on Vindhyaachal Parvat and were of sinful nature. But as Nishaad came out of Vane's body, his all sins were gone. Then Braahman churned Vane's right arm and it produced Prithu. At the same time Aajgav named first Shiv's bow, Divine arrows and an armor fell from the sky. Everybody was very happy with the birth of Prithu. Vane went to Swarg because of his religious son born to him.

Story of Raajaa Prithu Paraashar further said - "Hey Maitreya, As Prithu was born all rivers and seas came to him with their waters on the occasion of his coronation. Brahmaa along with Angiraa(s) Devtaa did the Abhishek of Prithu. Brahmaa saw the Chakra (a Divine disk like sign) in his right hand, so he thought that Prithu was a part of Vishnu. This Chakra exists in all Chakravartee kings' hands. Even Devtaa cannot stop his effects. It is said that when he walked in the sea, its water stopped its flow; mountains used to give way and his flagstaff was never broken. Prithvi used to give crops without sowing and tilling. Only imagination gave the crops and leaves were full of honey. As Prithu was born, immediately they did Paitaamaha named Yagya. It produced Soot and Maagadh. Muni asked them to pray Prithu. They said - "We do not know anything about him. He is born only today. We know neither about his qualities, nor about the reasons for being famous. How do we pray him?" Rishi said - "Whatever Karm he will do in future and whatever qualities he will attain in future, you pray him on their basis only." Hearing this Raajaa got very happy and he thought, "a man becomes famous only because of his qualities, so I should also

make efforts to acquire qualities. Therefore whatever qualities they will describe in my prayer, I will make all efforts to acquire them. If they will mention to leave some bad things, I will leave them." then both the Soot and Maagadh prayed the Raajaa on the basis of hid future actions. They said - "This king is truth speaker, donator, disciplined, forgiver, brave and mighty. He is religious, grateful, merciful, soft-spoken, and behaves alike with friends and foes." Thus Prithu remembered every quality they described in their prayer and tried to follow them in the same way. People were very sad because of the unrest. All the herbs were destroyed Before Prithu's birth, so they came to Prithu and said "Prithvi has absorbed all the herbs inside since the time of agitation, that is why we are getting weaker, please give us food." Hearing this Prithu took out his Divine bow and arrow and ran after Prithvi. Prithvi got afraid and ran away to other Lok in the form of a cow. But she always found Prithu coming after her, so she said to Prithu - "Don't you see that killing a woman is sin? Why do you want to kill me?" Prithu said - "If one person's killing gives comfort to many, it is better to kill that person." Prithvi said "But if you kill me, then where your people will live?" Prithu said "I will manage my people with the power of my Yog." Then Prithvi saluted him and said - "I tell you a way, if you wish you do the same. Whatever herbs I have absorbed, I can give them in the form of milk. For that you prepare a calf for people so that I can give you the milk because of that. Besides you make me flat on all sides so that I can produce this milk everywhere." Prithu did as Prithvi said. He removed hundreds and thousands of mountains and collected them at one place. Before this there were no habitats on Earth because it was not flat. At that time there was no planned farming, animal herding and trade etc. All this

started after Prithu had made it flat. The villages were inhabited, animals herding was started. Prithu prepared Swaayambhuv Manu as calf and milked Prithvi for all kinds of herbs, grains etc. Even today people live on those things. Since Prithu saved Prithvi, he was called her father and she was called Prithvi after the name of Prithu. After Prithu, Devtaa, Muni, Daitya, Raakshas, Naag etc milked Prithvi according to their needs in their own pots.

Prachetaa Gan and the Birth of People Paraashar further said - "Hey Maitreya Muni, Prithu had two sons - Antardhaan and Vaadee. Antardhaan had one son named Havirdhaan from his wife Shikandinee. Havirdhaan had six sons from Dhishanaa (from Agni's family) - Praacheenbarhi, Shukra, Gaya, Krishn, Vrij and Ajin. Praacheenbarhi was a great Prajaapati

who produced many people as his people. In his times, Praacheenaagra Kush grass was found everywhere on the earth, that is why he was called Praacheenbarhi. He married the daughter of Samudra - Savarnaa. Savarnaa gave birth to 10 sons. They all were called Prachetaa. They did Tapasyaa inside the sea water for 10,000 years." Maitreya asked - "Hey Muni, Why did they do Tapasyaa in sea water? Please tell me about this." Paraashar Muni said "Once their father asked them to produce children, he said to them - "Brahmaa Jee has ordered me to produce children, so I told him "Yes". Now you also produce children." Prachetaa Gan said - "As you say, Father. But tell us the way how should we do it?" Father said - "One can get everything by worshiping Bhagvaan Vishnu, so you must worship Vishnu to increase the population. Whoever desires Dharm, Arth, Kaam, and Moksh should worship Vishnu only. In the beginning of the Kalp, Brahmaa also produced people by worshipping Vishnu only, so you also do the same." Hearing Father's orders, all ten Prachetaa did Tap for Vishnu by immersing in sea water for 10,000 years." Maitreya asked - "Please tell me that prayer which they did to please Hari." [This prayer is given in Vishnu Puraan on pages 6062] Bhagavaan Vishnu appeared before them inside the sea. They saw Shree Hari seated on Garud. They saluted Him. Hari said - "I have come here to give yourdesired Var, ask for it." Prachetaa Gan told Him about the order of their father. Hari said - "So be it." and disappeared from there. Prachetaa Gan also came out of the sea. Since Prachetaa Gan were busy in Tapasyaa, all kinds of trees grew on Prithvi and a lots of people died. The trees were so many that even sky was filled with trees, so neither air flowed properly, nor people could do anything. When Prachetaa Gan came out of the sea, and saw all kinds of trees grown around them got very angry.

They emitted air and fire from their mouth. Air uprooted the trees and dried them; while fire burned them. Thus trees started getting destroyed. Seeing this destruction Som (Chandra Dev or Moon) went to Prachetaa Gan and said - "Hey Prachetaa, Please calm down your anger and listen to what I say to you. I will negotiate your friendship with trees. They have a daughter. I brought her up that girl with my Amrit rays knowing her future role. She is known as Maarishaa. In fact she is born for this purpose only. She will take your family line forward. She will produce a Prajaapati named Daksh through half the grace of yours and half the grace of mine. He himself will have the grace like Agni and produce lots of people. In earlier times there was a Muni Kandu. He did severe tap on the banks of Gomatee River. Afraid of his Tap, Indra sent his Pramlochaa named Apsaraa. She succeeded in disturbing his Tap, so he stayed with her in a cave of Mandaraachal Parvat for over 100 years. Then one day she asked his permission to go back to Swarg Lok. Muni loved her very much so he asked her to stay back for some more time. She stayed with him for another 100 years. After that she again asked his permission to go back to Swarg Lok, but Muni again kept her back for some more time. So she pent a little less than 200 years there. Thus whenever she asked to go to Swarg, Muni kept her back for some more time. One day when Muni came out of his hut in a hurry, she asked him "Hey Muni, where do you go?" Muni said - "It is evening now, so I go to do my Sandhyaa, otherwise my routine will be disturbed." At this Pramlochaa smiled and said - "Has Soorya set today only? During the last so many years, has your Soorya set only today? Who will not be surprised to hear this?" Muni said - "O Beautiful, You have come here, on this bank only today. I saw you entering my Aashram only today morning. Now the day has ended and

evening is setting in. Why do you make the mockery of me like this? Tell me the truth." Pramlochaa said - "This is true that I have come in the morning, but that morning has passed hundreds of years ago." Kandu Rishi asked - "Tell me the truth, for how long you have been living with me?" Pramlochaa said - "Nine hundred and seventy years and six months and three days more." Kandu said - "Are you speaking the truth or making a mockery of me? I feel as if I have stayed with you only for one day." Pramlochaa said - "How can I tell a lie to you? Especially at that time when you are on your way to your Dharm's path." After hearing this Kandu Rishi condemned himself and said to that Apsaraa - "O Sinner, Now you can go anywhere you like to go. You have already fulfilled Indra's mission. I am not burning you by my anger because saints become friend if somebody walks with them even seven steps only. You have surpassed all that. You are not responsible for this situation, it is only me. All fault is mine because could not control my Indriyaan." Som said - "Till Muni said all this, that woman continued to tremble with fear. Then she went away through skyway wiping her sweated body with the leaves of trees. At that time she was pregnant, so her fetus came out of her body with that sweat. Trees took that sweat, wind brought it together, and I started developing it with my rays. At appropriate time the child took birth and was named Maarishaa. Now these trees will give her to you, so be calm. This Maarishaa is the daughter of Pramlochaa, born from trees, is the child of Kandu Muni, Vaayu and myself." Paraashar further said - "Then Kandu Muni went to Purushottam Teerth and started worshipping Vishnu." Prachetaa Gan said - "We want to hear that Brahmpaar named Stotra (given on p 66-67) of Kandu Muni which he was pronouncing during his Jap. Then Som

told them that Stotra. The Muni got the Parampad doing Tap.

Who was Maarishaa and Her Children Som further said - "Now I tell you about Maarishaa as who she was and what was her previous life. If I tell you this, you will get

the fruit of increasing people. She was a queen in her previous life. Her husband died without giving her a son. Then she pleased Vishnu with her Bhakti (devotion). Vishnu appeared before her and asked her to ask for any Var. She said - "I became widow at a very early age, so my this life has gone waste. I wish that life after life I should get very gracious husband and sons like Brahmaa Jee. And I should have all kinds of qualities and be born without mother." Vishnu raised the bent woman and said - "You will have 10 husbands in only one life and at the same time you will have a son like Prajaapati. He will extend several families. Whole Trilok will be full of his descendents, and you will also be born without mother and full of all qualities." After saying this Vishnu disappeared from there. The same woman is now being born as Maarishaa and now is your wife. Maarishaa gave birth to Daksh Prajaapati who was born from Brahmaa Jee before. Later Daksh produced many kinds of creatures. First hecreated with his mind, then he created women also. He gave 10 of his daughters to Dharm, 13 to Kashyap, and 27 to Chandramaa (Moon). They produced Devtaa, Daitya, Naag, cow, birds, Gandharv, Apsaraa and Daanav etc. From this time only people started being born through sexual intercourse. Before that Tapaswee used to produce children through the power of their Tap by intention, or seeing, or touching only." Maitreya Jee said - "Hey Muni, I have heard that Daksh was born from Brahmaa's right thumb. I am curious to know that being the grandson of Som he was his father-in-law in relation." Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya, Beings are created and destroyed continuously, so Rishi and others who have Divine sight do not have any Moh (confusion). These Daksh are born in Yug after Yug and the learned do not have any doubts in it. Before they were not even elder or younger too. At that time Tap was the only measurement of being elder."

Maitreya Jee said - "Now you tell me about the origin of Devtaa, Daanav, Gandharv, Sarp (snakes) and Raakshas." Paraashar said "Now listen to how Daksh created creatures. First he created Rishi, Gandharv, Asur, snakes etc only by his mind. But when his people didn't increase considerably, then he married Veeran Prajaapati's daughter Asinkee with the desire of increasing people by sexual relationship. Then he produced 5,000 sons from her. All of them were called Haryashwa Gan. Seeing them inclined to produce children, Naarad said to them "Hey Haryashwa Gan, It seems that you are going to produce children, so listen to me first. It is very sad that you are still ignorant about the upper, middle or lower part of this Earth, then how will you produce people here? You can go anywhere, wherever you like, then why not you go and see the end of the Prithvi." Hearing this they went away and did not return, as rivers do not return from sea. After Haryashwa Gan had gone away, Daksh produced 1,000 sons from Vairunee. They were called Shabalaashwa Gan. As they got prepared to increase the population, Naarad again told told them the same thing what he told Haryashwa Gan. They also understood Naarad and went away in all directions and never returned. Since then this is the belief that if a brother goes in search of his brother he himself gets destroyed. When Daksh came to know about this he got very angry at Naarad and gave Shaap to him. Hey Maitreya, We have heard that after them Daksh produced 60 daughters from Vairunee. Amongst them, he married 10 daughters to Dharm, 13 to Kashyap, 27 to Som and 4 to Arishtnemi. He gave 2 to Bhooputra, 2 to Angiraa and 2 to Krishaashwa. Now you listen to their names: Arundhatee, Vasu, Yaamee, Lambaa, Bhaanu, Marutvatee, Sankalpaa, Muhoortaa, Saadhyaa and Vishwaa - these 10 were

wives of Dharm. Now you listen to their sons' names: Vishwaa had Vishwedev, Marutvatee had Marutvaan Bhaanu had Bhaanu Muhoort Lambaa had Ghosh Arundhatee had Human Beings Saadhyaa had Saadhya Gan Vasu had Vasu Gan (8) Muhoortaa had Devtaa of Yaamee had Naagveethee Sankalpaa had Sankalp

Whose life is only various kinds of Tej (power) and wealth, such Vasu Gan are known as eight in number. They are: Aap, Dhruv, Som, Dharm, Anil (Vaayu), Anal (Agni), Pratyoosh, and Prabhaas. Aap's sons were Vaitand, Shram, Shaant, and Dhwani. Dhruv's son was the destroyer of the world - Kaal. Som's son was Varchaa, Dharm's sons' name were - Dravin, Hut, Havyavah, Shishir, Praan and Varun from his wife Manoharaa. Anil's wife was Shivaa, they had Manojav and Avigyaatgati two sons. Agni had Kumaar (Kaartikeya) from reed. Since he was fed by six Krittikaa, he was called Kaartikeya. He had 3 younger brothers - Shaakh, Vishaakh, and Negmeya. Pratyoosh had the son named Deval Rishi. And Deval had two sons. Brihaspati's sister Varastree was the wife of 8th Vasu Prabhaas. She gave birth to Vishwakarmaa - the architect of Devtaa. He used to make all kinds of jewelry, Vimaan (airplanes), and cities. Vishwakarmaa had 4 sons - Ajaikpaad, Ahirbhudhnya, Twashtaa and Rudra. Twashtaa's son was Vishwaroop. Har, Bahuroop, Tryambak, Aparaajit, Vrishaakapi, Shambhu Kapardee, Raivat, Mrivyaadh, Sharv and Kapaalee - these are 11 Rudra. Hundreds of such Rudra are famous. Now listen to about 13 daughters of Daksh who were the wives of Maharshi Kashyap. They were - Aditi, Diti, Danu, Arishtaa, Surasaa, Khasaa, Surabhi, Vinataa, Taamraa, Krodhvashaa, Iraa,

Kadru, and Muni. In Chaakshush Manvantar, there were 12 Dev Gan named Tushit. After Chaakshush Manvantar, in Vaivaswat Manvantar, they met each other and said - "We should soon take birth from Aditi's womb, that will only be good for us." Thus they took birth in Kashyap's house from Aditi. They were then - Vishnu, Indra, Aryamaa, Dhaataa, Twashtaa, Pooshaa, Vivaswaan, Savitaa, Mitra, Varun, Anshu, and Bhag. They were called 12 Aaditya. Thus who were Tushit named Dev Gan in Chaakshush Manvantar, the same were called 12 Aaditya in Vaivaswat Manvantar. Som had 27 daughters of Daksh as his wives. They were all Nakshatra (constellations) and are known from the same names. Arishtnemi's wives gave birth to 16 sons. Bahuputra's wives were four types of lightning - Kapilaa, Atilohitaa, Peetaa, and Ashitaa. According to Jyoti Shaastra, Kapil (brown) colored lightening brings winds. Atilohit (much red) colored lightning brings sunshine. Peet (yellow) colored lightning brings rains. Ashitaa (white) colored lightning brings famine. Pratyangiraa gave birth to Devshreshth. Krishaashwa had Devpraharan named Dev Gan. So Hey Maiterya, These 33 Devtaa - 8 Vasu, 11 Rudra, 12 Aaditya, Prajaapati and Vashatkaar, take birth according to their own wish. It is said that they continuously take birth and continuously die. Their age is 1,000 Yug. As Soorya rises and sets on Prithvi daily, in the same way they also take birth in every Yug. We have heard that Kashyap Rishi had two mighty sons and one daughter who was married to Viprachitti (born from Diti). Hiranyakashyap had 4 sons - Anuhlaad, Hlaad, Prahalaad and Sanhlaad. Among them Prahlaad was most religious and was a great

devotee of Vishnu. Because of his Bhakti Hiranyakashyap wanted to kill him. He tried several means - he was put in fire, put in sea after tied with a Paash, was attacked with several kinds of weapons, was bitten by snakes, was hit by stones, was dropped from a mountain, was bitten by mad elephants, but nothing could kill him. Even the Krityaa produced by Purohit of Daitya could not end his life. Shambaraasur's Maayaa (illusion) could not affect him. Poisoned food cooked by royal cooks could not kill him."

Maitreya asked - "Hey Muni, I wish to hear about Prahlaad. He was very religious then why Daitya afflicted him with weapons, why he wasdropped in the sea, why he was thrown from mountains, why he was bitten by snakes, why he was burned in fire, why his body was pierced with elephants' tusks, why the wind was sent to him to dry him, why he was given poison though food. I wish to know about him. If he was such a devotee, there is no wonder that Daitya could not kill him. Wonder is only that who is such a great devotee of Vishnu, why he was put to death by his own family?" Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya Jee, In earlier times, Diti's son Hiranyakashyap empowered with Brahmaa's Var, controlled the whole Trilok. he was enjoying the status of Indra and was himself Soorya, Chandra, Vaayu, Agni, Varun, Kuber, Yam Raaj every Devtaa. He was enjoying all Yagyashares himself. All Devtaa used to wander around in Prithvi in human form because of his fear. All used to worship him. He had a very fortunate son - Prahlaad. When he grew up, he was sent to Guru to study. One day he went to his father along with his Guru. Hiranyakashyap was drinking at that time. Prahlaad greeted him by bending over his feet. Hiranyakashyap raised him and said - "Dear son, Tell me what have you learned at Guru's place? Prahlaad said - "Whatever I have understood till now, I tell you the gist of it. Who is without Beginning, the Middle and the End; does not take birth, does not increase or diminish and is stable; is the causes of all causes; and is the cause of all existence of Universe, I greet Him." Hearing this Hiranyakashyap's eyes became red with anger. He said to Guru - "O wicked Braahman, What is this? You have trained

him to pray my enemy ignoring my instructions?" Guru said - "You shouldn't be so angry. Your son is not telling you what I have taught him" Hiranyakashyap again asked him - "Son, Tell me who has taught you this? Your Guru Jee says that he has not taught you this." Prahlaad said - "Father, Bhagvaan Vishnun is the only teacher who lives in heart. Leaving Him who is there who can teach anything to anybody?" Hiranyakashyap said - "O Fool, Whose name you are taking again and again in front of me, the Bhagavaan, who is He?" Prahlaad said - "Who cannot be described, from whom this Universe has appeared and who Himself is like a Universe, the same Parameshwar is Vishnu." Hiranyakashyap again said - "Who else can be called Parameshwar except me? Still you are telling all this to me? Do you want to die?" Prahlaad said - "O Father, That Vishnu is not only mine, but is of all people and yours too. Be pleased, do not be angry without any reason." Hiranyakashyap said - "Who is that sinner who has entered this boy's heart? That is why he is speaking this inauspicious speech." Prahlaad said - "Vishnu Bhgavaan exists not only in my heart but also in the whole Universe. He guides everybody to do his actions." Hiranyakashyap said - "Take away this sinner from here and discipline him well in Gurukul. Who has guided him to speak against me?" Hearing this Daitya took him to Gurukul and he again started learning there. After long time Hiranyakashyap again called him and asked - "My son, Tell me something." Prahlaad said - "That Vishnu from whom this whole Universe has appeared, should be pleased with us." Hiranyakashyap said - "He is very wicked, kill him. There is no use to keep him alive, because he has become the source of the destruction of our family." Many Daitya ran to kill him with their weapons. Prahlaad said -

"Vishnu is in you, in all your weapons and in me. If it is true then let not these weapons affect me." In spite of being hit by those weapons Prahlaad did not feel anything. Hiranyakashyap said "Don't pray my enemy, don't be too innocent, I make you fearless." Prahlaad said - By whose remembrance all kinds of fear, birth, old age and death run away, when He Himselfexists in my heart then how can I fear from anybody" Then Hiranyakashyap called snakes and ordered them to bite him. They did bite him but Prahlaad didn't feel anything. Snakes said to king - "Our teeth are broken, our gems have cracked, our heads are paining, but his skin remains unaffected. Tell us some pother work." Then Hiranya ordered his elephants to kill him with their tusks and teeth. They threw him on the ground and crushed him with their teeth, but since all the time he was remembering Govind, their tusks were broken after touching his chest. Prahlaad said "I have no power to break these elephants' tusks this is the effect of remembering Janaardan only." Then Hiranyakashyap ordered his Daitya to start a fire and wind to blaze it so that Prahlaad could be burned in it. Daitya obeyed their king. Prahlaad said - Hey Father, This Agni, fanned by wind is not able to burn me. I am feeling very cool around me as if lotus flowers are spread around me." Hearing this Shukraachaarya praised Hiranyakashyap and said - "Please be calm and don't be angry with this boy. You should be angry only with Devtaa because those are the cause of his success. We will now train him like that that he will cause the destruction of your enemy. Still if he praises Vishnu, we will spare no efforts to kill him. We will produce Krityaa for him." Hearing this request of his Purohit Hiranyakashyap took the boy out of fire and sent him again to Gurukul. There he started to preach other Daanav children like this - "O Daitya children, I will teach you for your good. Don't take it otherwise, because I am not

doing this because of any greed etc. All beings take birth, become young, then old and then die. It happens all the time. After death, there is another birth, this is also certain, and this is also proven that nothing comes into existence without any reason. (see Note 2) Whatever are the states (pregnancy etc) during the process of rebirth, all are full of sorrows. People consider the feeling or heat, coolness, or satisfaction, or hunger, or thirst etc as comfort, but in reality they are only sorrows. As much pleasure you will collect around you, they will all give you sorrows in the same proportion. Whatever wealth one has at home, one worries about it even if he is in a far land. Thus when one is alive here, he has to tolerate sorrows and in rebirth also one has to tolerate great pains. Thus the whole world is sorrowful. Therefore only Vishnu Bhagvaan can free you from all these sorrows. Don't think that you are still children, because these are only the states or nature of body, but the Lord of the body is soul (Aatmaa). Its nature is not like that. Who is confused by these states of body - "I am still a child", or "let me play now", or "I will do my good later", or "I am still young, let me enjoy the world's pleasures now, I will do my good later in old age", and at old age he thinks that "I am old now, my body is weak, I cannot do anything", he can never do any anything good for himself. Therefore one should do his good from the childhood itself. If you trust me then start meditation on Hari. He will free you from all kinds of sorrows. Now you listen to the gist - this world is the extension of Vishnu only, that is why we should give up our Daitya feelings and remember only Hari. I again plead you that you should never be satisfied with the pleasures of this world. Treat everything alike, because that is the real worship of Hari. Never desire for Dharm,

Arth, and Kaam. Just take refuge in Hari's feet." Contd... on Next Page

Efforts to Kill Prahlaad and Prahlaad's Prayer Contd... from Previous Page Contd... on Next Page Paraashar asked - "Hey Muni, When Daitya saw and heard all this,

they reported it back to Hiranyakashyap. He immediately called his cooks and asked them to kill Prahlaad by mixing poison in his food. The cooks gave him poison according to the orders of the king. Hey Maitreya, Prahlaad ate that food taking the name of Hari, so that poison also couldn't harm him. Seeing this cook got frightened. He immediately rushed to Hiranyakashyap and told all this to him. Then Hiranyakashyap called his Purohit and asked them to produce a Krityaa to kill him. Purohit said to Prahlaad - "You are born in the family of Brahmaa Jee, and you are the son of Hiranyakashyap. What purpose you have with Devtaa? Your father is the only refuge for you and the whole Universe." Prahlaad said - "This is true that my father is the mightiest in the whole world; and this is also true that my father is the ultimate Guru among all Guru. I also think that I will not harm him, but as you said that what I have to do with Anant, this is not justified." Then he became quiet in respect to his Guru. He again spoke "Listen to what I have to with Anant. Dharm, Arth, Kaam and Moksh are the four exertions. Who is the giver of all these? What will I have to do with Him? What can I say about your this statement? Through whom only Daksh and Mareechi etc have got Dharm, others have got Arth, and others have got Kaam; and many others have got Moksh. Therefore worship of Hari is the root of Gyaan (knowledge), wealth, grace, children, Karm and Moksh. And still you say that "What you have to do with Anant?" You people are my Guru, you know everything, I have very little wisdom in comparison to you, still you say "What you have to do with Anant?" Still if I have said something wrong, please forgive me for that." Purohit said - "O child, We are trying to save you from being burned in fire by saying like this, but we didn't know that you are

so foolish. If you will not change your ideas, we will have to produce Krityaa to destroy you." Prahlaad said - "Which being is killed by whom, and which being is protected by whom? Soul itself protects and destroys itself by good or bad conduct. All creatures are born because of their actions, and only actions are the means for their good and bad results, therefore one should do all good Karm by all means." Paraashar said - "Hey Maitreya, Hearing Prahlaad, the Purohit produced a Krityaa like a flame of fire. She hit Prahlaad's chest with her trident, but the trident fell broken as it hit his chest. Besides when it fell on the ground, it again got broken into hundreds of pieces. In which heart Bhagavaan lives, leave a trident alone, even Vajra (Indra's weapon) is broken into pieces after hitting it. Because those Purohit hit that faultless child through that Krityaa, so Krityaa attacked on them too and after killing them she destroyed herself too. When Prahlaad saw his Guru burned by Krityaa, he ran towards them calling - "Hey Krishn, Protect them, Hey Anant, Save them. If omnipresent Vishnu exists in all creatures, then let these Purohit be alive." Saying this he touched them and they came to life again. They said to the child - "O child, You are very good. May you long live, be mighty, wealthy and bear many children and grandchildren." Then they went to Hiranyakashyap and told him everything. Contd... from Previous Page Contd... on Next Page

Hiranyakashyap's More Efforts to Kill Prahlaad Contd... from Previous Page Paraashar asked - "Hey Muni, Hearing the failure of Krityaa, Hiranyakashyap called his son and asked him the reason of his this effect, he said - "You seem to be very resourceful. All these actions of yours are by Mantra or natural?" Prahlaad greeted him by touching his feet and said - "Hey father, Neither I use any Mantra, nor it is natural. Whoever remembers Hari always, it is very simple for him. Who does not think bad for others, he also does not face bad situations himself. Who thinks

bad about others, he also faces the result of his bad Karm. I neither think, nor do, nor say anything bad about anybody or to anybody. Thus who acts like this he doesn't have tosuffer from any kind of pain and sorrow - physical, mental, or god-given (Daivik)." Hearing this Hiranyakashyap said to his servants - "Take this wicked boy and throw him from a 100 Yojan high palace so that he falls on a mountain and breaks into pieces." The servants took him and threw him from a very high palace. When he fell, he remembered Shree Hari; so as he reached near ground, Prithvi took him in her lap. Hiranyakashyap got very surprised to see him hale and hearty. Then he said to Shambaraasur - "This boy knows some Maayaa (trick or illusion), that is why he cannot be killed by us. You kill him with your Maayaa." Shambaraasur said - "I will kill him just now. You just watch my tricks. I will show you hundreds and thousands of Maayaa." Then he created many Maayaa to kill Prahlaad, but he always remembered Madhusoodan. At that time Keshav's Chakra came to protect him. It destroyed Shambaraasur's all Maayaa and protected the child from them. Then Hiranyakashyap asked Vaayu (air) to destroy him soon. So Vaayu entered Prahlaad's body to dehydrate it. But as Prahlaad meditated upon Hari, Hari drank all Vaayu. Prahlaad went to his Guru's Aashram again. There he learned Shukraachaarya's political science. When his Guru thought that he has become well-versed in political science, he told Hiranyakashyap that he had become educated. He knew all about political science as told by Bhrigu's descendent Shukraachaarya. Hiranyakashyap asked Prahlaad - "Tell me my son, How a king should behave with friends and foes? And how to behave with an indifferent person? And how to behave with ministers, servants of

inside and outside of palace, spies, public, slaves by winning, and others? Tell me correctly that how to decide about "should be done" and "should not be done"; how to control the fort and the savages; how to remove secret enemy. Tell me this and whatever else you have learned." Prahlaad touched his father's feet and said - "There is no doubt that Guru has taught me all this and I have learned all this too, but in my opinion the politics is not good. To treat friends, one should use Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed policies. But father, please don't be angry with me, I don't see any friend or foe; and when we don't have any objective, then what is the use of means? When omnipresent Hari is everybody then there is no question of friend and foe. Therefore Hey father, One should make efforts only for his own good leaving all these useless things. A man considers himself learned because of his ignorance (A-Vidyaa). Does a child not consider a glowworm as fire? Action is same that does not bind him; and Vidyaa (knowledge) is same which is the means of Mukti. Besides, other actions are all exertions. Knowledge is only art. That is why consider this useless and now I tell you the useful things. Who does not want the kingdom and who does not desire for wealth, but only he gets them who has it in his fate. Everybody makes exertions for fame, but only he gets it who has it in his fate. Even fools, ignorant, weak, and ignorant of politics also get those things because of their fate. Therefore whoever desires for wealth he should try to do all good actions (Punya), and whosoever desires for Moksh, he should treat all actions alike. Devtaa, human beings, animals, birds, trees, snakes all are different forms of Janaardan. There all are like yourself. Whoever understands this, Hari is pleased with him and his all grieves are destroyed. Hearing this Hiranyakashyap got up from his throne and hit

Prahlaad's chest with his foot and spoke rubbing his hands with wrath - "O Viprachitti, Raahu, and Bal, You all tie him with NaagPaash and throw him in the ocean. Do not delay this otherwise all Lok, Daitya, Daanav etc will also start following him. I have tried my best to stop his praying Vishnu, but he continues to do that." Those Daitya obeyed the king and threw Prahlaad in the ocean after tying with Naag Paash. As he was thrown in the ocean, the whole ocean got agitated and high waves started rising sinking Prithvi in the ocean. Hiranyakashyap said - "Don't keep him free in the ocean, press him with mountains from all around. See, neither Agni burned him, nor weapons cut him, nor snakes bit him, nor Vaayu or poison or Krityaa destroyed him, nor he got killed by Maayaa or by throwing from the mountain or by elephants. He is very wicked that is why there is no purpose of his life so let him be in the ocean laden with mountains for a thousand years. hen he will die himself." His servants did the same. Then Prahlaad prayed Hari. Prahlaad's Prayer and Appearance of Hari Paraashar further asked - "Hey Muni, When Prahlaad prayed thus, he forgot himself. He didn't see anybody except Vishnu. He thought himself as Vishnu cheered his heart. As he thought thus. His Naag Paash ties were broken, ocean got agitated, Prithvi started shaking and Prahlaad came out of the ocean. Then he realized that he was Prahlaad, so he again prayed Hari. Hari appeared before him. He stood up seeing Hari in front of him and said - "Hey Achyut, Be pleased with me and give me your Darshan again." Hari said - "I am very pleased with you, ask for any Var you wish for." Prahlaad said - In whichever species I am born, I should always remain your devotee. As A-Gyaanee people love pleasures, I should also love you in the same way." Hari said - "You still love me, and you will love me in future also. But ask for any other Var

besides this, you wish for." Prahlaad said - "My father is jealous with you having me praying you, so whichever sin he is attached to because of that jealousy, it should be destroyed. Besides whatever sin he is attached to because of giving me so much pain that should also be washed away." Hari said - "Your all wishes will be fulfilled by my grace. I give you one more Var, you ask for whatever you wish for." Prahlaad said - "I am most grateful to you for this Var also, I wish that I will be your devotee life after life. What else I need." Hari said - "By my grace you will get Moksh." Paraashar further said - "Hey Maitreya, After saying this Shree Hari disappeared before his eyes. Prahlaad came to his father and greeted him. Hiranyakashyap asked him caressing his head - "Are you alive, my son?" Then Hiranyakashyap started loving him, and Prahlaad also started serving him. Later Prahlaad became king after Nrasinh killed Hiranyakashyap and after passing his life in prosperity and grace Prahlaad got Param Pad of Bhagvaan. Whoever listens to this holy tale of Prahlaad, his sins are soon destroyed. If somebody reads it on Poornimaa (Full Moon day), Amaavasyaa (New Moon Day), Ashtamee (8th day of the fortnight) he gets the fruits of donating a cow. As Bhagvaan protected Prahlaad from all kinds of troubles, He should protect him also who listens to this story. Contd... from Previous Page

Kashyap's Other Wives and Birth of Marud Gan Paraashar said - "Sanhlaad's sons were Shivi and Baashkal, and Prahlaad's son was Virochan. Virochan's son was Bali and Bali had 100 sons among whom Baanaasur was the eldest. Hiranyakashyap has a brother named Hiranyaaksh. He had Utkur, Shakuni, Bhootsantaapan, Mahaanaabh, Mahaabaahu, Kaalnaabh etc sons. All were very powerful. Kashyap's another wife Danu had Dwimoordhaa, Shambar, Ayomukh, Shankushiraa, Kapil, Shankar, Ekchakra, Mahhaabaahu,

Taarak, Mahaabal, Swarbhaanu, Vrishparvaa, Pulom, Viprachitti. Danu's all these sons are well-known. Swarbhaanu had a daughter named Prabhaa. Vrishparvaa had three daughters - Sharmishthaa, Upadaanee, and Hayashiraa. Vaishwaanar had two daughters - Pulomaa and Kaalakaa. Both got married to Kashyap Jee. They had 60,000 Daanav sons. All these sons of Kashyap were called Paulom and Kaalkeya. Viprachitti had many cruel sons from his wife Sinhikaa - Vyansh, Shalya, mighty Nabh, Vaataapi, Namuchi, Ilval, Khasrim, Andhak, Narak, Kaalnaabh, Mahaaveer, Swarbhaanu, Vaktrayodhee. These were all sons of Danu's sons who extended Danu's family. In Prahlaad's family, a Daitya named Nivaatkavach was born through great Tap. He was full of spiritual knowledge. Kashyap's another wife Taamraa had six daughters - Shukee, Shyenee, Bhaasee, Sugreevee, Shuchi, and Griddhrikaa. Shukee had Shuk (parrots), Ulook (owls), and Kaak (crows) as her children; Shyenee had Shyen (garud); Bhaasee had Bhaas; and Griddhrikaa had Geedh (vultures). Shuchi had the birds of water; and Sugreevee had Ashwa (horses), Ustra (camels), and Gardabh (donkeys) as her sons. Kashyap's another wife Vinataa had two sons Arun and Garud (Suparn). Garud eat snakes. Kashyap's another Surasaa had thousands of snakes, some of which were flying ones too. Kashyap's another wife Kadru also had snakes with several heads. These were the enemies of Garud (read the story of their enmity here). Among these snakes are - Shesh , Vaasuki, Takshak, Shankhshwet, Mahaapadm, Kambal, Ashwatar, Ailaapatra, Naag, Karkotak, Dhananjaya, and many other poisonous and biters. [see

also Mahaabhaarat, Stories, 5-11maatali for many other names] Kashyap's another wife Krodhvashaa had Krodhvash Gan. They were all with terrible teeth and were raw meat eaters. They could live anywhere - in water, or on land, or in air. She gave birth to Pishaach also. Kashyap's another wife Surabhi gave birth to cows and buffaloes. Kashyap's another wife Iraa gave birth to trees, creepers and all kinds of straws. Kashyap's another wife Khasaa gave birth to Yaksh, Raakshas, Muni and Apsaraa. Kashyap's another wife Arishtaa gave birth to Gandharv. All these movable and immovable creatures were Kashyap's children. This is said to be the creation of Swaarochish Manvantar (2nd Manvantar). Birth of Marud Gan In the beginning of Vaivaswat Manvantar (7th Manvantar - the present Manvantar) there happened to be a big Vaarun Yagya. Brahmaa was Hotaa in that Yagya, so I will now describe his children. In the previous Manvantar (Chaakshush - 6th Manvantar) whoever were Saptarshi were the Maanas Putra of Brahmaa, the same were created as the fathers of Gandharv, Naag, Devtaa, Daanav in this Manvantar (Vaivaswat - 7th Manvantar) When Diti's sons were killed, she pleased Kashyap Jee and Kashyap Jee also pleased her by giving her Var. At that time she asked for a mighty son who could kill Indra. He gave this Var to Diti and said - "If you will meditate on Vishnu and keep your pregnancy with Shauch (cleanliness) and self-control then

your son will be able to kill Indra." Then Kashyap impregnated Diti and Diti got pregnant with full Shauch. When Indra heard this, he came to serve Diti. He was always watchful for any kind of irregularity of her Shauch rules. In the last when less than 100 years remained, one day Diti laid down on her bed without washing her feet and slept. At the same time, as Indra was constantly watching her, he entered her womb and cut her fetus into seven pieces with his Vajra. Afflicted with Vajra, that fetus started crying loudly. Indra cut the each piece into seven pieces again and shouted at it - "Maa Rodee, Maa Rodee", means "Don't weep, don't weep". Even after cutting that fetus into 49 pieces, those all 49 pieces remained alive. Since Indra asked them "Maa Rodee", those 49 pieces were called Marud, and the same Marud Gan became the helpers of Indra.

14-Vishnu's Vibhooti and Organization of the World

3-Vishnu Puraan, 1-Pratham Ansh, p 99-103

Vishnu's Vibhooti Paraashar asked - "In earlier times when Maharshi appointed Raajaa Prithu as their king, then Brahmaa also divided the kingdom properly. He appointed Chandramaa on Grah (planets), Nakshatra (constellations), Braahman, all herbs, Yagya and Tap. Vishravaa's son Kuber was appointed as the ruler over kings; Varun over waters; Vishnu over Aaditya; Agni over Vasu. Daksh was appointed as the chief of Prajaapati; Indra as the chief of Marud Gan; Prahlaad as the chief of Daitya and Daanav. Dharm Raaj was appointed as the chief of Pitar; Airaavat as the chief of all elephants; Garud over all birds; Indra over all Devtaa; Uchchshraivaa over all the horses and Vrishabh was appointed as the chief of cows. Lion was appointed over all wild animals; Shesh Naag over all all kinds of Naag; Himaalaya over all immovable; Kapil Jee over all Muni; and Pluksh (Palaash) tree over all kinds of trees. Thus Brahmaa appointed other chiefs also. Then Brahmaa appointed the Lords of directions. He appointed Sudhanvaa, the son of Vairaaj Prajaapati, in East direction; Shankhpad Prajaapati, the son of Kardam Rishi, in South direction; Ketumaan, the son of Rajas, in West direction; and Hiranyaromaa, the son of Prajaapati Paranjaya, in North direction. They are still taking care of their dependents according to their divisions. These

and other kings, all are the forms of Vishnu's Vibhooti. Whoever are the Lords of Devtaa, Daitya, Daanav, animals, birds, human beings, snakes, Naag, trees, planets etc, all are the part of Vishnu. There is nobody else who can take care of the whole Universe. It is only He who creates at the time of Creation, takes care of His Creation and destroys in the form of Kaal (Time). He creates the Universe with four forms, takes care of it with four forms and destroys it all with four forms. With one part He is Brahmaa, with another part He is Mareechi etc Prajaapati, His third part is Kaal (Time), and fourth part is all living beings. In this way with the help of Rajo Gun He exists at the time of Creation. Then with the help of Sat Gun, He establishes the Universe. At that time He maintains it in the form of Vishnu with His one part; becomes Manu etc with His second part; being Kaal as His third part He establishes Himself in all living and non-living beings. In the end, He takes help of Tamo Gun and appears as Rudra with His one part, as Agni with His second part, Kaal with His third part, and with His fourth part He become all living and non-living being. To destroy the Universe, He has thus four types of forms. (1) Brahmaa, Daksh etc Prajaapati, Kaal and all living beings, these four Vibhooti are the causes of the Creation of the Universe. (2) Vishnu, Manu etc, Kaal and all living and non-living beings are the Vibhooti of Vishnu as the maintainer of the Universe; and (3) Rudra, Kaal, Agni, and all living and non-living creatures are His four forms as the destroyer of the Universe. In the beginning, middle and after the Pralaya (deluge) also Brahmaa and Mareechi etc create different kinds of beings. In the beginning of the Creation, first Brahmaa creates, then

Mareechi etc Prajaapati create, and after that all living beings produce their children all the time. Without Kaal nobody Brahmaa, Prajaapati or living beings can create anything. There Vishnu's Kaal form is the cause of all Creation. Whoever being creates anything, Shree Hari only is the cause of that Creation. Thus, the destroyer is also Shree Hari's Rudra form. Still His own status (which is above these three) is Nir-Gun (without attributes) because all this He does with the help of three Gun and thus He himself remains without attributes). That Nir-Gun form is also of four types." Maitreya Jee asked - "Hey Muni, How this Parampad (ultimate form) is of four kinds? I wish to know this." Paraashar said "Whatever is the cause of all things, is the means of those things also, as the efforts are made for a desired thing, the same is called the objective (Saadhya). For Yogee, who desire for Moksh, Praanaayaam etc are the means and Brahm is the objective from where one does not come back. The Gyaan or knowledge (about Praanaayaam etc), which is the cause of Moksh of the Yogee, is the first form of the Brahm. To be free from sorrows, Yogee's objective, the Gyaan about Him (Aalamban Vigyaan) is His second form. The Gyaan (about both the means and the objective) of whose form is one is His third form. And Hey Muni, after making out the inferences of all this Gyaan whatever is experienced by a person is Called Brahm - named Gyaan. This is His fourth form. Whoever Yogee regard this Gyaan daily, leaving other kinds of Gyaan, in spite of doing Karm, they live without desires within the world. And the same is called Parampad of Vishnu. This Brahm is of two types - tangible and non-tangible (abstract); or Kshar and A-Kshar. A-Kshar is this Param Brahm; and Kshar is the whole world. As the light is spread all around, this whole world

is is the power of Param Brahm. As the intensity of light depends on the nearness or farness of the fire, in the same way powers of Brahm are also relative. Brahmaa, Vishnu, Mahesh are three main powers of Brahm. Inferior to them are the powers of Devtaa; inferior to the powers of Devtaa are the powers of Daksh etc. Inferior to Daksh's powers are the powers of human beings, animals, birds deer, snakes etc; and inferior to their powers are the powers of trees, creepers etc. This whole world, with Creation and destruction, birth and death is in fact daily and eternal." Maitreya Jee asked - "Hey Muni, How does Vishnu maintain this world with His ornaments and weapons?" Paraashar Jee said "Now I tell you that whatever Vashishth Jee told me. He puts the Kshetraj form of this world in the form of Kaustubh Mani (which He wears on His chest). He puts Pradhaan in the form of Shree Vats mark; and wisdom in His Gadaa form. Taamas Ahankaar and Raajas Ahankaar which are the causes of all Creation, He has in and Shaarng bow forms. Saatwik Ahankaar is in His Chakra (Divine disc) form. His Vaijayantee Maalaa, which is made of pearl (Motee), ruby (Laal), emerald (Pannaa), blue sapphire (Indraneel or Neelam), and diamond (Heeraa), is the form of Panch Tanmaatraa and Panch Bhoot. Both Gyaan and Karm Indriyaan are with Him as His arrow. Gyaan, hidden in A-Vidyaa (darkness or ignorance) itself, is His sword. Thus Purush, Pradhaan, Buddhi, Ahankaar, Panch Bhoot, mind, Indriyaan and Vidyaa and A-Vidyaa all are dependent on Hrisheekesh. Thus being formless, He still keeps all these in the form of weapons and ornaments. Bhoo Lok, Bhuv Lok, Swarg Lok, Maha Lok, Jan Lok, Tap Lok, Satya Lok - all these seven Lok are Bhagvaan Himself. Rig Ved, Yajur Ved, Atharv Ved, Saam Ved, Itihaas (Raamaayan and

Mahaabhaarat), Upaved (Aayurved), sayings of Vedaant, all parts of Ved, Manu - all are the body of Vishnu. Whatever tangible and non-tangible things are in Trilok, all are His bodies.

Lineage of Priyavrat Maitreya Jee said - "Hey Muni, You told me about Manu's son Uttaanpaad's son Dhruv, but you have not told me about Priyavrat - his another son. I wish to hear about him." Paraashar said - "Priyavrat married Kardam Rishi's daughter. He had two daughters - Samraat and Kukshi, and 10 sons from her. His 10 sons were - (1) Aagneedhra, (2) Agnibaahu, (3) Vapushmaan, (4) Dyutimaan. (5) Medhaa, (6) Medhaatithi, (7) Bhavya, (8) Savan, (9) Putra and 910) Jyotishmaan. Among these 10 sons, Medhaa, Agnibaahu and Putra were Yogee and knew about their previous lives. They had no desires so they used to enjoy all pleasures without any indulgence in them. So Priyavrat distributed his kingdom into seven Dweep (island) to his rest of the seven sons. Aagneedhra got Jamboo Dweep, Medhaatithi got Pluksh Dweep, Vapushmaan got Shaalmal Dweep, Jyotishman got Kush Dweep, Dyutimaan got Kraunch Dweep, Bhavya got Shaak Dweep, and Savan got Pushkar Dweep. Aagneedhra had nine sons - (1) Naabhi, (2) Kimpurush, (3) Harivarsh, (4) Ilaavrit, (5) Ramya, (6) Hiranyavaan, (7) Kuru, (8) Bhadraashwa, and (9) Ketumaal. Aagneedhra gave him Varsh (southern part of Jamboo Dweep - today's Bhaarat) to Naabhi; Hemkoot Varsh to Kimpurush, Nishadh Varsh to Harivarsh; Ilaavrit Varsh (which has Meru Parvat in the center) to Ilaavrit; and the Varsh close to Neelaachal to Ramya. He gave Shwet Varsh (northern part of Jamboo Dweep) to Hiranyavaan and the Varsh which is north of Shringvaan Parvat to Kuru; and the Varsh which is located in the east of Meru to Badraashwa; and Gandhmaadan Varsh to Ketumaal. After giving these Varsh to his nine sons, he went to Shaalgraam Teerth. Hey Muni, Among them Kimpurush etc eight Varsh have lots

of comforts and pleasures and people get everything without doing anything. They have nothing like pain, untimely death, or old age. There is no difference between Dharm and A-Dharm, or highest, medium and lowest etc. In these eight Varsh, there is no change of Yug. Naabhi had Him Varsh. He married Meru Devee and had a son named Rishabh. Rishabh had 100 sons among whom Bharat was the eldest. He gave his kingdom to Bharat and went to Pulah Aashram for Tap. There he did many kinds of Yagya and vows etc. In the end he put a stone in his mouth and went to Param Lok in nude condition. Since then this Him Varsh has been named as Bhaarat Varsh. Bharat had a son named Sumati. He gave him his kingdom and died in Shaalgraam area. He then took birth in a Braahman family. I will tell you later about him. Sumati's son was Indradyumn; Indradymn's son was Pratihaar; Pratihaar's son was Pratihartaa; Pratihartaa's son was Bhav; Bhav's son was Udgeeth; Udgeeth's son was Prastaav, Prastaav's son was Prithu; Prithu's son was Nakt; Nakt's son was Gaya, Gaya's son was Nar; Nar's son was Viraat; Viraat's son was Mahaaveerya; Mahaaveerya's son was Dheemaan; Dheemaan's son was Mahaant; Mahaant's son was Mansyu; Manasyu's son was Twashtaa; Twashtaa's son was Viraj; Viraj's son was Raj;

Raj's son was Shatjit; Shatjit had 100 sons. Among them Vishwajyoti was main. These 100 sons increased the number of people a lot. This Bhaarat Varsh was divided in nine divisions and they all ruled over these nine divisions. In ancient times they enjoyed it for 71 Chatur-Yug (almost for one Manvantar). This is the family of Swaayambhuv Manu of first Manvantar of this Varaah Kalp.

2-Jamboo Dweep
3-Vishnu Puraan, 2-Dwiteeya Ansh, p 108Read About Earth in 5-Bhaagvat Puraan, 5/5 Read About Islands etc in 5-Bhaagvat Puraan, 5/5; and in MBH, 6-War-1

Jamboo Dweep Maitreya Jee said - "Hey Muni, Now I wish to hear the account of whole Earth System (Prithvi Mandal). Whatever seas, islands, Varsh (countries), mountains, forests, rivers and Devtaa's Nagaree, their measurements, forms etc are there, I wish to know about them." Parashar said - O Maitreya, Listen, I describe you all this in brief, because they cannot be described even in hundreds of years. There are seven Dweep - Jamboo, Pluksh, Shaalmal, Kush, Kraunch, Shaak, and Pushkar. All these Dweep are surrounded by salted water, Ikshu juice, wine, Ghee (clarified butter), yogurt, milk, and sweet water respectively. Jamboo Dweep Jamboo Dweep is located in the center. In the middle of that Dweep is golden Meru Parvat (mountain). Meru's height, above the ground, is 84,000 Yojan and below the ground is 16,000 Yojan. Its width on upper side is 32,000 Yojan and at the bottom is is only 16,000 Yojan. Thus it looks like a lotus flower. Towards its south are Himvaan, Hemkoot and Nishadh Parvat; towards its north are Neel Shwet and Shringee Parvat which divided its various Varsh (divisions). Among them, Nishadh and Neel Parvat are spread up to 100,000 Yojan each. The others are up to 10,000 Yojan less. It means that Hemkoot and Shwet are 90,000 Yojan each and Himvaan and Shringee are 80,000 Yojan each. All of them are 2,000 Yojan high

and 2,000 Yojan broad. Towards the south of Meru Parvat, first is Bhaarat Varsh, second is Kimpurush Varsh and the third one is Hari Varsh. Towards its north, first is Ramyak, then is Hiranymaya and then is Uttar Kuru Varsh which i of bow-like hape because of being on the border of the Dweep. All these varsh are 9,000 Yojan. In the center of all these is Ilaavrit Varsh in which the Meru Parvat is located. Thus Ilaavrit Varsh is extended up to 9,000 Yojan around Maeru Parvat. Around Meru Parvat, there are four more Parvat to support Meru Parvat - because Meru is narrow at the bottom and broader at the top, so it might fall. These four Parvat are - Mandaraachal in east, Gandhmaadan in south, Vipul in west and Supaarshwa in north. All these four Parvat are 10,000 Yojan high each. On these four mountains there are 1,100 Yojan high Kadamb, Jamboo (Jaamun fruit), Peepal ( a sacred tree of India), and bunyan trees respectively. Because of Jamboo tree this Dweep is called Jamboo Dweep. Fruits of this tree re as large as elephants. When they fall on the Parvat, they spread all around after cracking, and their juice flows in the form of a river. Inhabitants of that Dweep drink that juice and consequently they do not get old, do not sweat, do not give away foul smell, and their Indriyaan do not deteriorate. Soil of its banks become Jaamboonad gold after it has dried. East to Meru Parvat is Bhadraashwa Varsh, west to it is Ketumaal Varsh, and between them is Ilaavrit Varsh. In the same way, towards its east is Chitrarath Van (forest), in south is Gandhmaadan Van, in west is Vaibraaj Van and in east is Nandan Van. Arunod, Mahaabhadra, Asitod, and Maanas are the four lakes. Sheetaambh, Kumund, Kuraree, Maalyavaan and Vaikank etc Parvat are in the east of Meru Parvat. Trikoot, Shishir, Patang, Ruchak, Nishaad etc Parvat are in its south. Shikhivasaa, Vaidoorya, Kapil,

Gandhmaadan and Jaarudhi etc Parvat are in its west. In the vicinity of Meru, in Ilaavrit Varsh, in its north, are Shnakhkoot, Rishabh, Hans, Naag, and Kaalanj Parvat. Above Meru Parvat, in the sky, there is Brahm Puree of Brahmaa Jee. It is extended up to 14,000 Yojan. Around it, in all directions, are eight cities of Lords of directions (Dikpaal). Coming out of Vishnu's foot, Gangaa goes around Chandra Lok then falls from Swarg Lok in Brahm Puree. There it divides itself in four streams Seetaa, Alaknandaa, Chakshu, and Bhadraa. Seetaa goes towards east, by skyway from one mountain to another and falls in the sea after crossing Bhadraashwa Varsh. Alaknandaa flows towards south in Bhaarat Varsh and joins the sea after dividing itself in seven streams. Chakshu goes to west, crosses all Parvat, flows in Ketumaal Varsh and joins the sea. Bhadraa flows in northern mountains, crosses Uttar Kuru Varsh, and joins the northern sea. Maalyavaan and Gandhmaadan Parvat are spread up to Neelaachal Parvat in north, and Nishadh Parvat in south. In the middle of these two Parvat is situated Meru Parvat. Hey Maitreya, Towards outside of the border mountains are located bhaarat, Ketumaal, Bhadraashwa and Kuru Varsh which are like petals this lotus-like Lok. Both Jathar and Devkoot are the border mountains which are spread up to Neel in north, and Nishadh in south. In east is Gandhmaadan Parvat and in west is Kailaash parvat. They are spread up to 80 Yojan and are located inside the sea. Like east, towards west of Meru Parvat, are two mountains Nishadh and Paariyaatra. Towards its north is Trishring and Jaarudhi named Parvat which are located inside the sea towards east and west. These Jathat etc Parvat are located in four directions of Meru Parvat in the set of two in each direction.

In these mountains, there are caves where live Siddh and Chaaran etc. There are beautiful cities and gardens where the temples of Vishnu, Lakshmee, Agni are there. All these places are called as Swarg of Prithvi. Threse are the places where religious people live. Who are sinful, cannot go there even after taken 100 births. Shree Vishnu Bhagvaan lives in Bhadraashwa Varsh in the form of Hayagreev; in Ketumaal Varsh in the form of Varaah; in Bhaarat Varsh in Koorm (Kashchap or tortoise) form; and in Kuru Varsh in Matsya (fish) form. In Kimpurush etc eight Varsh, there is no worry, no pain, no emotions, no hunger. They are all healthy, and fearless. They live up to 10-12,000 years. There is no rain in these Varsh, only water is available. There are no Yug there. In all these Varsh, there are seven mountains each, and there are hundreds of rivers there coming out of these mountains. Bhaarat Varsh Paraashar said - "Hey Muni, Now you listen to nine divisions of Bhaarat Varsh. Bhaarat Varsh is located in the north of the sea and south of the Himaalaya. Bharat's descendents live here. It extends up to 9,000 Yojan. This is the Karm Bhoomi (land of actions). In this Varsh are seven Parvat - Mahendra, Malaya, Sahya, Shuktimaan, Riksh, Vindhya, and Paariyaatra. In this Varsh only, human beings can get Swarg or Moksh by doing good Karm and from here only go to Hell after committing sins or bad Karm. On Prithvi, there is nowhere else where one can do Karm. Bhaarat Varsh is divided into nine divisions - Indra Dweep, Kaseru, Taamraparn, Gabhastimaan, Naag Dweep, Saumya, Gandharv, Vaarun, and Bhaarat Varsh. It is 1,000 Yojan from north to south. In its eastern part live Kiraat and in western part live Yavan, and others. Braahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shoodra live in the middle part doing their duties. Its Shatdroo and Chandrabhaagaa rivers come from Himaalaya; Ved and Smriti etc come from

Paariyaatra Parvat; Narmadaa and Surasaa come from Vindhyaachal Parvat; and Taapee, Payoshnee and Nirvindhyaa etc come from Riksh Giri; Godaavaree, Bheemrathee and Krishnvenee come from Sahya Parvat; Kritmaalaa and Taamraparnee etc come from Malayaachal; Trisaamaa, Aaryakulyaa come from Mahendra Parvat; and Rishikulyaa and Kumaaree etc rivers come from Shuktimaan Parvat. Besides these there are many other rivers also there. On the banks of these rivers are inhabited Kuru and Paanchaal of central part; Kaamroop, Sauraashtra, Shoor, Aabheer, Arbud, Kaaroosh, Maalav, Sauveer, Saindhav, Hoon, Shaalv, Kashap, Madra, and Paarasee people. In this Bhaarat Varsh, there are four Yug - Sat, Tretaa, Dwaapar and kali. They are not anywhere else. In this country Muni do Tapasyaa for their other world, do Yagya, and donors give donations. In Jamboo Dweep, Vishnu is worshipped through Yagya. In other Dweep, He is worshipped in other ways. Bhaarat is the best in Jamboo Dweep because it is Karm Bhoomi. Other countries are for enjoying the fruits of their Karm. A Jeev takes birth in this country after thousands of births as a result of his Punya. Thus I told you about the Jamboo Dweep of 100,000 Yojan in brief. This Jamboo Dweep is surrounded by salty water sea which is also of 100,000 Yojan.
