5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

Before I had created any of my work I had ask a variety of people to fill in a survey that I had created on the action thriller genre and films in general. This survey was asked to a wide variety of people ranging from the ages of 16 to 45 with a mix of males and females. This was useful as it gave me an overview of what most people enjoy and using this I can address most of my attention towards the answers given by my wanted audience. The target audience is ranged from 18 35 this was a large range because most of the participants on my survey all enjoyed action until around 40. My audience is also predominately male because most males in my questioners enjoyed guns and fights which is a large aspect of my film. Some questions that I asked were supported by all ages and both genders this was for if the lead role was going to be a male or a female? Both Genders wanted a male lead role. I did this in my film as everyone wanted it and it created a larger audience. I focused vary carefully on the answers they gave as I wanted my film to be appealing by a large audience. Some of my own ideas that I had toward my film, I had to change because the audience on a scale wanted something completely different and I had to follow the audiences choice to create a successful film that a large scale of people will want to watch. The actors for my film were teenagers this does attract more teenager towards the film as they can relate to the characters. Using an attractive male as the lead role I also was able to bring more attention from the female audience. The location of the film is London this will attract a British viewing because they want to see a film set in their own country also the location of the film was set in a rural area meaning a large percentage of the British audience could relate. The questionnaire that I used were very helpful and since I had got a large amount of people to use the questionnaire with a equal range of both genders and a wide range of ages I was able to get the best possible data to find which audience I wanted to focus on and try to make everyone enjoy the film. Most of the people who answered the question said that music was a key point for an action thriller and need to be done well to attract the audience. In this question I also asked for recommended thriller/action films that use this music tone well. The films that were recommended the most were Inception and Shutter Island. I research the music in these two films and found out it was dramatic opera. With the common appearance of Han Zimmer. Knowing this was the most enjoyable music I decided to add this sound to my film to attract the audience. Another form of way that I managed to get information from the audience was by creating VOX plots. This was interviews with selected people and asking them questions about what they would want to see in an action/thriller. This was perfect to find out what attracted the audience as I could go deeper into questions rather than simple questions that were placed onto my questionnaire. Secondary research was also an important factor to get information on how to attract the audience, this is because they give a massive range of conventions that are used in film to attract a specific type of audience. Using secondary research I was able to discover that Action was the most popular genre worldwide. Knowing this I decide to stick to the common conventions of an action because this is what people loved to see and I would gain a large audience by following these set conventions. The conventions that I followed were the most obvious conventions such as guns, fighting and a male lead. Following the conventions would also attract action fans as they would enjoy the set conventions because thats what makes them enjoy the blockbuster action films of today
