Matlab 2012b installation standalone windows

These steps describe the process of installing MATLAB 2012b standalone on a windows computer.

Before installing you need the following items: File Installation Key (FIK) License file

Download the zip files

Download the zip file(s) from https://icts.kuleuven.be/software/matlab/R2012B/ The example is done for the 32bit version of the software Matlab2012b_win32_0.zip contains Matlab and Simulink. So if you only need to install Matlab, then this is the only file that is needed. Matlab2012b_win32_1.zip 1 contains the more popular toolboxes and Matlab2012b_win32_2.zip contains the other toolboxes. Check the readme-file on the download site to view the content of the zipfiles. Download the additional zip file(s) if needed to install additional toolboxes. Best practice: make a separate folder where you download the zip files into. Example: If you are have to install Matlab and the Optimization toolbox, then you need to download Matlab2012b_win32_0.zip and Matlab2012b_win32_1.zip If you are installing Matlab, Statistics toolbox and the Wavelet toolbox, then you have to download the 3 zip files, since the Statistics is enlosed in Matlab2012b_win32_1.zip and Wavelet in Matlab2012b_win32_2.zip

Extract the zip files

When you have downloaded the different zip files, you must extract these zip files to the same directory.

Extract the files without 3rd party software

If you have Windows 7 and no zip software (e.g. WinZip, 7-zip) is installed you still can unzip the files. Right click on the zip file and select the option Extract All (Alles Uitpakken).

The Windows wizard proposes default to extract to a folder using the same name as the file, do not use this default and specify a folder yourself, e.g.temp and the files will be extracted.

If you need to unpack the other zip files, proceed the same way and select the same folder to unpack the files into. Windows will issue a warning that you will merge files, but accept this.

Once the files are extracted, the installation can be started.

Extract the files without 3rd party software (7-zip)

If the files are stored in a separate folder, the easisest way to go is to choose the option Extract Here

If you need to unpack also the other zip files, proceed the same way and extract the files in the same folder! 3
