A 2 week observation of animals within the perimeters of the agropark at the Jeli Campus was recently conducted during January 2014. Camera traps were set at 4 points; with the first 2 cameras set up along, a route entering the main stream 10 meters from the agropark steel bridge, and the remaining two cameras were set up facing a stream across the road from the quail farm. Wild boars (Sus Scrofa) were spotted in groups of 4 or 5, and are considered small compared to most wild boar sounders which can reach up to 20 to 50 animals. Saunders are normally led by a dominating female and is made of other sows, juvenile

Postgraduate Colloqium by Hasnita Che Harun

A postgrauate Colloqium was held recently from the 19th to 20th Janaury. The colloqium, organized by the postgraduate students of FIAT and FSB was a platform for the postgraduate students to present their research proposal or the current progress of their respective research. It was also a good exposure, as feedback and advice can be given directly and discussed with the the students with regards to the research study. Kudos to the postgraduate students of both faculty for organizing such a beneficial event which is held twice a year.

before dawn. On some occasion, the animal was spotted during daylight, normally during the first 2-3 hours after dawn, and were mostly solitory. Macacus cynomolgus or the Long Tailed Macaque Monkey were also captured on camera and were mostly caught active much later in concerns if it is near development or human habitation, as they may become a nuisance. Smaller groups meanwhile indicates the area may not have enough food source to sustain large groups (also probable indicator these animals will roam near human activities where food may be abundant). Small groups also may be an indicator the existants of predators in the area. Feline tracks had been previously o b s e r v e d

A series of viva voce were held for FIAT undergraduate students as part of the Final Year Project. The sessions held in between the final year exams added the pressure for the students to perform. But still this is not the end of the course, as each student is required to do changes to the recommendations, and at the same time have the hardbound copies submitted before the end The Kelantan state level young entreof January. preneur congress was recently held on the 17th janaury at the Renaissance FYP Presentation Hotel in Kota Bharu. The event, organized by SME Corp, was attended by young entrepreneuers from the state of Kelantan, and representatives from various goverment and private institutions as well as NGOs. Males once reaching the age of maturity will leave the sounders and become solitary. Picture top far right shows a male boar during the day. Wild boars which are common within the area was spotted roaming during the early morning and returned into the forest the late afternoon. In the picture on the left, a juvenile holds on to the adult monkey, and may have roam in a rather small groups of maybe 7-8 animals. Being inside the perimeters of the university, such animals living in the area can be an important indicator that can be both good and bad. Large sounders or groups of animals indicates a striving population, and should be of great

showed possible large feline, probably wildcats. Little information is available on the wildlife status surrounding Jeli, which sits nicely in lowland dipterocarp forests where an abundance of species live and strive. Sitting in the middle of development, the Jeli Campus must take the initiative to maintain wildlife and incorporating the infrastructure development, as well ensuring the safety of the universitys community.
