Roman WebQuest

Name Chloe Wang Class 6R Directions: Over the next few days we will be further exploring the empire of ancient Rome. Using the internet, iPads, and links provided below, search for information to answer the corresponding questions. Be sure to thoroughly explore each area, as answers will be listed in a variety of locations. Please make a copy of this document and save it in your Humanities Shared Folder. Type in your answers as you find them. Use your own words to answer the questions. In order to keep up you should try to complete at least 10-15 questions each day. Romes Pivotal Emperors: & iPad - ROMA - The Emperors - Timeline 1.) How did Augustus became emperor of Rome? Caesar adopted Gaius Octavius and made him the next heir so Caesar made Augustus the emperor of Rome. 2.) What was significant about Vespasians rule? Vespasians rule was significant because Vespasian broke the rule and became successful. The rule was that anyone who is not in the royal family cant be the next emperor but Vespasian broke the rule and became an emperor. 3.) How did Hadrian control the borders of the Roman Empire? Hadrian divided what was Rome and what was not by building watch towers and small forts to delineate Roman-controlled territory.

4.) Why was Antonius Pius rule considered a difficult one? Antonius Pius was consider a difficult one because he had to face difficult task like living up to the reputations of his two predecessors. 5.) What did Marcus Aurelius do to increase social mobility? Marcus Aurelius maintained largely good relations with the senate so the poor people could enhance the positions of other levels of society. 6.) Septimus Severus realized that an emperors true power lay where? Septimus realized that the emperors true power lay in the support of the troops, because with armed support they could quell all opposition.

7.) Describe one of Constantines achievements: When Constantine became a sole emperor he rewrote the history with a little help with the Christian authors. He promoted the Christian Church. The Roman building are really interesting because there are a lot of temples are large buildings. The buildings are all the same color and the designs are really complicated and pretty. The buildings are packed together in one place.

I love the head of medusa the best because it looks realistic and interesting. It looks like a sun that is bright and innocent but Medusa is suppose to be evil. The picture is really is really interesting. It caught my attention.

Roman Religion Gallery & iPad - ROMA - Religion: 1.) Describe early religion in the Roman empire: In early Roman empire the religion was associated with places, natural forces and aspects of everyday life. 2.) How did the Greeks influence Roman religious practices? The Greeks influenced Roman religious practices because Romans came to equate some of their gods with Greek equivalents of similar character for example Jupiter with the Greek Zeus, Juno with Hera, Mars with Ares. They got a lot of ideas of how to worship the gods from the Greeks. 3.) What religion was perceived as a threat to the Roman Empire? Why was it considered a threat? Christians were perceived as a threat to the Roman Empire because they would believe in their God. The Christians refused to worship the traditional gods and the emperors, for this they were seen as a threat and persecuted by emperors starting with Nero. Romes Greatest Enemies Gallery: 1.) Who were the Visigoths? Describe their achievements: Visigoths were the super-tribe in the Goths, they were one of the few that could defeat Rome, their achievement is that they defeated the Romans. 2.) Who was Attila? Describe his achievements: Attila was the ruler of Hunnic Empire and Attila conqured the east and west of Rome and each twice. 3.) List three of Hannibals achievements: One of Hannibals achievements was when he took the war to Rome and conquered northern spain. Also, Hannibal fought in Italy a protracted campaign, winning three huge victories over the Roman armies sent against him. My troops didnt do so well because there were so many Roman and they kept on killing us. They had so many soldiers that half of it would invade and the other half would rest so they had more stamina and supplies if they rested. I lost at the end.

Social Pecking Order in the Roman World: 1.) Describe the distinctions between the classes in ancient Rome: In much of daily life status distinctions based on age, gender, occupation, education and wealth may have been more relevant than legal status alone. The rich people and the poor, such as slaves, have a really big difference. Like the rights and what they could do. 2.) List the rights of a citizen. How are they different than non-citizens? Only citizens could hold positions in the administration of Rome and the other towns and cities of the empire, only citizens could serve in the legions, and only citizens enjoyed certain legal privileges. There were a lot of things that only the citizen of Rome could do and the non-citizens cant. 3.) Did the opportunity for social mobility exist in ancient Rome? No social mobility didnt exist in ancient Rome.

Resisting Slavery: 1.) What was the role of a slave in ancient Rome? What rights did they have? The role of a slave in ancient Rome was to not talk and work for their owners. Slaves had no rights unless they were released.

2.) What percentage of the population in Rome were slaves? A quarter or a third of the population is made up of slaves in Ancient Rome. Gladiator: Dressed to Kill Launch the gladiator game. 1.) How did your fighter perform? Did he live or die? Why do you think this is? My fighter always lived but it was really close to death because I always got 1-3 weapons correct. If I dont get any weapons right then the fighter dies so when i get 1 weapon correct, the fighter is really close to his death. I think he lived because the fighters were pretty strong so with 3 weapons that can fight and defend he won.

I choose Augustus because he is strong, wise, and definitely battlehardened. 2.) After completing the game, how did you do as emperor? I tried really hard but sadly I don't quite have what it takes to be emperor of Rome. But I did well enough to make a good Roman.

After taking the quiz they said that I was Nero and I think it is true because I choose everything the way I really wanted and after reading a bit more about Nero, Nero and I have really similar personalities. Even though I cant do those things, I would do it if I could. Death in Rome: 1.) Launch the mystery game. Who did it? Did you finish in the allotted time period? Was your guess correct? Claudius died because of malaria so no one killed him, the insect bit him so he died. I finished it in the allotted time period. My guess was correct after many times.
