In the book Of Mice & Men, the character George who has to take care of Lennie, who is mentally disabled and cant take care of himself. Lennie depends on George who takes care of him and tries to protect him.

A mental disability is a medical condition that disrupts a persons way of thinking, feeling and change in moods that dont relate to others. Mental disabilities can affect age, race, and religion.

This symbol is used for the special Olympics.

The causes of a mental disability is Genetics- That can be passed down through family. Infections-Certain infections can cause brain damage. Brain injury-Injury to a certain area of the brain. Prenatal damage- Having a disruption in a early fatal brain development. Other factors- Having poor nutrion, exposure to toxins and Etc.

Common symptoms of a mental disability include: Continued infant-like behavior Lack of curiosity Decrease learning ability Failure to meet the markers of intellectual development Failure to meet educational demands at school

Depending on how severe the mental disability is, depends on the treatment. When having a disability, they get or have a special treatment team which can be a Primary care doctor Psychiatrist Psychotherapist Pharmacist Vocal worker Family and friends

Caring for a mental person can be difficult especially when youre the only caregiver. Some difficulties can be rough and hard to provide for the mental person. For the Mental person cant handle or take care of them self.

The difficulties are Financial-To pay for medicine and doctors visits. Physical-Which can be tiring and hardworking. Rough schedule- To have time for the mental disabled person Stress- For a lot of pressure is put upon you Emotion- To have isolated or unhappy thoughts that can come to mind

Support can come to the caregiver, to help them care for their own well being. The caregiver can also get support to help them care for the mentally disabled person.

The supports are Respite care- The caregiver takes a break to take care of them self's. Financial support- To help pay for the mentally disabled persons medication and doctor visits. Emotional support- Which they can go to a community group or go to family/friends Medical support- To have to take medication to keep them on track and carry out their role as caregiver.
