Filariasis is a major parasitic infection, which continues to be a public health problem in the Philippines. It was first discovered in the Philippines in 1907 by forei n wor!ers. "onsolidated field reports showed a prevalence rate of 9.7# per 1000 population in 199$. National Rabies Prevention and Control Program

Aabies is a human infection that occurs after a transdermal bite or scratch by an infected animal, li!e do s and cats. It can be transmitted when infectious material, usually saliva, comes into direct contact with a victim0s fresh s!in lesions. Aabies may also occur, thou h in very rare cases, throu h inhalation of virus%containin spray or throu h or an transplants.

Aabies is considered to be a ne lected disease, which is 100# fatal thou h 100# preventable. It is not amon the leadin causes of mortality and morbidity in the country but it is re arded as a si nificant public health problem because 81< it is one of the most acutely fatal infections and 83< it is responsible for the death of 300%F00 Filipinos annually.
