CUMMINS CONNECTION

MARCH 2014

Happy 10th Birthday Cummins

perhaps a bit of inconvenience for the customers, but the results speak for themselves. In October 2007 we had a Store Opening. Soon we were requiring more store room space. So began the extension of our store room incorporating a new Freezer. The new store room was complete by November 2010, just in time for our Harvest/Christmas rush. Thankfully power outages are a thing of the past for us, at the end of 2012 we upgraded our existing Generator to fully run the store. By now you have probably noticed our new delivery van, making it easier for us to do the deliveries around town. So here we are ten years down the track. So starting on Wednesday 19th March until Friday 21st of March we will be having a Birthday Sale. Keep a check on your mail as we will be sending out a mailer. This will let you know all about our 3 Day Birthday Sale. There will be heaps of great specials, a free raffle, a free sausage sizzle and more. Radio 5cc will be doing a Live broadcast from the front of the store on Friday 21st March. So come on down to the store and be a part of our Birthday celebrations. This is our way of saying Thank you, the customer, for your support over the last 10 years, and we look forward to that continuing. Our weekly brochure starts each Wednesday through to Tuesday and is now being distributed by mail, it is also available via the website www.iga.net.au. We use local suppliers where possible. We have a great range of trayed meat and chicken products. These are sourced from Cummins Meat Store, Lincoln South Butchers, Ingham`s,

136TH EDITION

ow, where has the time gone?

On the 22nd of March 2004, Christine & Toby Kennett and Leanne & Darren Kelly took over Cummins IGA. I guess its a very common thing that whenever you do something new or big you hit the ground running. Well, when we took over, it was two weeks before the Annual Kalamazoo, and three weeks before Easter! What where we thinking!! So from our busy beginning the pace has remained. In July 2004 we upgraded our Fruit and Vegetable Cabinet, giving us so much more space to display our stock. A huge asset for the fresh department. Late January 2006 saw us upgrade to our Point of Sale (the checkout registers). Lovely state of the art computer touch screens! In January 2007 we started our major store upgrade and extension. Toby had the role of storeman, his meticulous planning enabled a very smooth time for all, using all Local Builders and Tradesmen. By July the same year, we were operating from the new store through wonderful new electronic doors. During that time the store remained open for business. Certainly there was a fair bit of dust, noise, and

Lilydale Free Range Poultry and Cordina Chickens. We also stock Flour and Pre mixes from the Cummins Milling Company. We have bunches of flowers from Coolangatta Cut Flowers, we stock Sweet Heart Honey from Nick & Amy Maddern. Our single bread rolls are from 5 Loaves Bakery. We stock Buns and Pies from Boston Bakery and Rawles Country Bake supply us with Buns, Crusty Cob loaves and packs of bread rolls. We range the Lincoln Estate Olive Oil and our Local Free Range Eggs are from Alpine Eggs Bronwyn Mickan. We also have an extensive range of Beerenberg products, have you tried the Beerenberg Chili Jam? It`s lovely with a wedge of Camembert cheese and a cracker biscuit. At Cummins IGA we have our Community Chest Fund. Keep a check on the brochure and you will notice certain special items that are flagged with the Community Chest Logo. Each time these items are purchased money is put aside, which accumulates throughout the year. Each November we decide the recipient. The recipient for 2013 is the Cummins & Districts Enterprise Committee Wheat Lumper Statue. This is a wonderful way that you can help us help the community. Our Fruit and Veg is delivered three times a week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We strive to have the freshest possible stock for you at all times. Darren is constantly talking to our fruit and veg buyer about quality, availability and price. Our motto is if I won`t buy it don`t expect someone else to.

Respect our community facilities

In recent times it has been very disappointing to hear and see first-hand how a select few school age children have been treating change rooms at both the brand new Rec Centre building and the Sports Complex Hall. It appears this select few take no responsibility for their behaviour when using these facilities and in fact find it entertaining to block up sewer and plumbing pipes with things such as excessive amounts of toilet paper and toilet paper rolls, and in a more recent times a pair of boys grey school shorts. Other incidents reported include hand soap being spread around the entire change room, wetting toilet paper and throwing it against walls and ceilings, breaking fixtures and fittings and placing plugs into drains before turning on taps and leaving the room to flood. These incidents are occurring in both female and male toilets. As a result of this behaviour I will be taking particular steps to find out who is responsible and hold them accountable. This will include gathering information from supervising staff and random visits by the Police. Anyone found taking part in this behaviour may experience legal ramifications including being banned from the facility and in addition to the facility seeking compensation for cleaning and repair costs. I ask all parents to please make it known to your children what has been occurring and what is and isnt acceptable when using these facilities. I have already discussed alternative measures with some swimming pool committee members in order to prevent this type of behaviour if it continues. These suggestions are far from ideal and would impact on every individual wanting to use these facilities and are seen as a last resort.
If you have any concerns or require clarification on any issue, I encourage you to call the Cummins Police Station on 08 8676 2001 or email me on john.randall@police.sa.gov.au B/Sgt John RANDALL O/C CUMMINS Police Station
