God Called Me to the Ministry of a Prophet

In 1959, I was preaching in El Paso, when I fell and knocked my elbow out of place. I thought the elbow was broken at first. One of the ladies of the church, who was a. divisional superintendent of the hospital, told me that about this time each night, a leading bone specialist of the city was at the hospital. I said, " L e t ' s go o v e r . " As I was riding to the hospital, the Lord told me that the arm wasn't broken. I thought all in the car heard the Voice, but they said they didn't. But that is characteristic of a prophet. Did you e v e r notice the statement in the Old T e s t a m e nt, where it says, "And thewordof the Lord came unto me saying" ? Well, it couldn't have been audible, b e c a u s e if it had, there would not have been any need for the prophet to give itout. E v e r y body would have heard it. The Lord said to m e , " I ' l l talk to you later about it. I'll prepare everything at the hospital, and I'll make everything right at the church where you are holding the meeting. Just don't bother about a thing. The devil did it, but, I ' l l make it redound to my g l b r y . " I learned long ago, not even to touch it in thought life, when God tells me not to. They put me to sleep. That was the only time I was in the hospital or had anything physically wrong with me for twentyfive y e a r s . I was prophesying all the time w h e n I went under ether, and also when I came out. P r a i s e God! And it was a blessed time. Beautiful poems and psalms given by the Spirit! The accident didn't cost me a penny. Jesus had said, " I will provide and arrange it a l l . " The bone specialist said, " R e v e r end, I don't think there will be any complications, but I think w e ' l l keep you here o v e r night or a day or t w o . " HE SEES THE LOUD can remember the sensation I had. I was sort of amazed, shocked, or something. I know my eyes bulged. I didn't say a word. A chair was facing the head of the bed. He came around to it, moved it back just a little, then sat down in it. He started like this: " I told you in the car, the other night and He reiterated what He told me then. He said, "What I told you has come to pass. I prepared the way for y o u . " I answered, " T h a t ' s right, L o r d . " He talked to me for an hour and a half. The amazing thing is, that for an hour and a half, no one came to that room. Jesus added, " I told you not to think about it; not to bother about i t . " I replied, " I haven't even thought about it, have I L o r d ? " He said, " N o , y o u haven't." Then He went on, " Y o u got into trouble, because you got out of My perfect w i l l . It was God's perfect will for Israel not to have a king in the days of Saul. You know that. But they wanted one, and so He p e r mitted them to have one. Well, they w e r e in His p e r m i s s i v e w i l l , but not in His perfect will and they got into trouble. Didn't they?

A little later, I heard footsteps coming down the hall, toward my room. Now, I thought it was a nurse. The door stood ajar, so I looked up, expecting a nurse to come through the door. I saw white all right, but instead of it being a white uniform, it was a WHITE KOBE! IT WAS JESUS! I had my eyes wide open. Paul saw the Lord wl^en he was converted. When his eyes were opened, he was blind. So he didn't see the Lord with his physical e y e s . When that bright light shined, he shut his physical e y e s . He couldn't see physically and it was three days later before he could. So therefore, he had to be seeing Jesus with his eyes shut. He saw Jesus in a spiritual vision; the eyes of his spirit were s e e ing Jesus. But there is such a thing as an open vision, by which we see Jesus or an angel with the eyes wide open. ActualPaul tells us in I C o r . 10:11, ly, that vision in the hospital "And what is written aforewas the first open vision I had time is for our admonition upon e v e r had. I m e r e l y permitted this. You may say, 'Couldn't You have kept it from happening?' Y e s , I could have kept it f r o m happening, but I didn't want to. You had better be glad that you got off that lightly. It could have cost you your l i f e . That is the reason many m i n i s t e r s die y o u n g . " " M a n y of God's people die p r e maturely, because they will not function in their p l a c e , in the Body of Christ. S e l f - w i l l n e v e r pays o f f . " Then He continued, " I f you will stay in My p e r f e c t w i l l , I can keep you and will keep you from s i c k n e s s . I kept you for a quarter of a century. If anyone walks in My p e r f e c t w i l l , I ' l l keep them f r o m a c c i dents. I will keep all of My people if they will let M e do it. I said to Israel that I ' l l take sickness away from the midst of you . Israel w e r e My s e r v ants, but you are My sons and My daughters. If it wasn't My will for My servants to be sick, it certainly isn't My will for My sons and daughters to be sick." " M a n y folk are l i k e you. They have gotten out of My perfect will and there a r e things that have been p e r m i t t e d to happen to them. A l w a y s pray for people who go to the hospital. A l w a y s pray for folk who take m e d i c i n e ; always p r a y for people who are under a d o c t o r ' s c a r e . Some of them are not n e c e s s a r i l y out of My p e r f e c t will from the stand point of d i s obedience; they just don't know that the perfect will of God is that they be h e a l e d . " " B e c a u s e of the lack of faith, they do not r e c e i v e o r cannot r e c e i v e what rightfully belongs to them. They are still M y c h i l dren, just like you a r e , even though you are disobedient. I ' m

not going to forsake My c h i l d r e n , under any c i r c u m s t a n c e s . I ' m going to do all I can f o r them, and all they will let M e do for them. When you pray for them, then that p e r m i t s Me to speed up the healing p r o c e s s . That isn't Divine healing, but it is God working with them. I am not going to heal you instantly this t i m e , and I ' l l tell you why. T h i s is the third t i m e I ' v e had to talk to you alxmt this. I ' m going to let you w e a r that a r m in a sling around your neck for a few days, so you won't forgot so quickly. 1 am going to speed-up the healing p r o c e s s . " The doctor had told me that I had a compound f r a c t u r e , and also how many weeks it was going to be before the a r m would be out of a east, and then how many weeks it would take for those muscles and l e a d e r s and l i g a m e n t s to be r e a c t i v a t e d . He told my wife that I would n e v e r be able to touch my shoulder again with that a r m . The s p e c i a l i s t said, " I don't know how much use you w i l l have of the a r m . W e ' l l just have to wait and s e e . Naturally, it is i m p a i r e d , and you won't have the use of it that you had b e f o r e . " But Jesus now said to m e , " I am going to r e s t o r e to you 99 p e r cent of the use of that a r m . No one e l s e will be able to tell it, but you will be able to tell it so that you won't e v e r forget anymore." " T h e angel of the L o r d touched Jacob and his thigh went out of p l a c e so that he went through life with his thigh out of p l a c e , as a r e m i n d e r of how God had to deal with him. You put your teaching m i n i s t r y f i r s t , and y o u r prophet's m i n i s t r y second. E v e r y single place in My W o r d , the prophet is mentioned f i r s t and the t e a c h i n g m i n i s t r y , second. In Ephesians 4:11, " A n d he ( C h r i s t ) gave some apostles, and some prophets; and some e v a n g e l i s t s ; and some p a s t o r s , and some t e a c h e r s . " Second, in I C o r . 12:28, Paul said, in w r i t ing to the Church at Corinth, " G o d has s e t s o m e - in the church, first apostles, s e c o n -

d a r i l y prophets, thirdly teache r s . " T h e third w i t n e s s i s Acts 13:1, " N o w there w e r e in the Church at A n t i o c h certain prophets and t e a c h e r s . " Jesus added, " Y o u put your teaching m i n i s t r y f i r s t , because you l o v e to teach. Second, you s e e the g r e a t need of teaching, and it is tremendous. T h i r d , the p a s t o r s encourage you to teach. N o w , I gave you a teaching m i n i s t r y and I want you to teach alright, but don't put the teaching m i n i s t r y f i r s t . You r e v e r s e d the o r d e r and put the teaching m i n i s t r y f i r s t , and the prophet's m i n i s t r y second, and finally, just left it off altogether. You are going to have to r e v e r s e the o r d e r , and y o u ' l l not be able to do it o v e r n i g h t . Go ahead and teach in the d a y t i m e , and use y o u r p r o p h e t ' s ministry p r i m a r i l y in the n i g h t - t i m e . " Many t i m e s I look out a c r o s s a congregation when I m i n i s t e r , and s e e what c e r t a i n individuals w e r e doing a couple of clays b e f o r e . A pastor c a m e into my s e r v i c e , and suddenly I saw that p a s t o r standing by his desk, weeping and c r y i n g in d e s p e r ation. I had never seen the mini s t e r before in my l i f e . I told him what I saw. He said, " Y o u a r e right, brother. That happened just like you said it d i d . " Now, I look o v e r the c r o w d v e r y often, right while I am preaching and see some things, but I don't say anything about it because you can't say anything about some things, for there are some people you can't help no matter what you s e e . And so I just l e a v e them alone and go on and help those who can be helped. You s e e , to constitute the office of a prophet, one has o p e r a t i n g in his l i f e a m i n i s t r y , not just a n o c c a s i o n a l r e v e lation. T h e word of w i s d o m , the word of k n o w l e d g e , and d i s c e r n i n g of s p i r i t s , plus prophecy are manifested in his m i n i s t r y . It takes two gifts of r e v e lation, plus the gift of prophecy to constitute the office of a prophet. . T h e r e are p a s t o r s that are s c a r e d to death.of m e . They

In the Old T e s t a m e n t , the king was anointed by the Holy Ghost to stand in his o f f i c e . The priest had the Holy Ghost. But they still didn't h a v e r e v e l a t i o n gifts. They would still go to a prophet and ask him c e r t a i n things when they wanted a r e v e l a t i o n , didn't they? And they had the Holy Ghost. Today people are asking m i n i s t e r s about things to t o m e . God wants His children to know f o r . . . He appointed some prophets.
