2 girls, one mission: EVS in Prostjov!

First time in Prostjov

My first week in Prostjov was really good und relaxed because Lucie helped me a lot and told me some interesting facts about our new "home country". Furthermore I was happy that I get on well with Lucie and she (as a French girl!!!!) drinks beer, too! So for the first time we went out to a pub in Prostjov to drink some beer. Suddenly the waitress served us two glasses of whisky. It was a funny situation because in the meantime Lucie said me that she HATE whisky! Nevertheless we wanted to be friendly to this brave Czech but he couldn't speak English. So after some unsuccessful tries to start a conversation we paid our beer, said goodbye to the man and went home. But after this funny experience, we've met a lot of nice Czech people who are helpful and try to speak with us!

ON ARRIVAL
In November, I

travelled to Krsensko to participate on a On Arrival. It's a seminar for all EVS volunteers, who make their in

voluntary

service

Czech Republic. So I met a lot of interesting people from different countries. For one week our trainers lead workshops (e.g. how I can learn Czech in 90 days... after this, I still am sceptical whether it works!) and gave us time to created own workshops. Every evening we had free time to do something alone. So we decided to go to the only pub in Krsensko to drink something an talk about our experiences, our motivations for the EVS etc. On the last day, we walked through the Moravian Karst (protected nature

reserve to the north of Brno) visiting Punkevn jeskyn, an impressing cave with a lot of....stones! In the evening we went to the village pub where a party started. Besides the old music we danced a lot. Next day we had to say goodbye, but we won't forget this amazing week!

Nicholaus and other stuff!

December starts - it's Christmas time! Actually I'm not interest in Christmas and all this stuff, but it is my first Christmas time in Czech Republic! So I was a little bit surprised about die differences between the French,

find sweets, nuts, mandarin and little presents in their shoes if they are brave. If they badly-behaved they just get a switch from Knecht Rupprecht. In France, they don't celebrate Nicholaus (poor French!!!!). In Czech Republic, the Nicholaus, Angel and Devil come to the families and give the brave people children sweets and other stuff. It was really nice to see all the Nicholas, Angels and Devils on the streets!

German and Czech Christmas time. For instance Nicholas day: the families in Germany clean their shoes and put them in front of the door in the night of November 5th. Next morning they will

The best thing of Christmas time is the holiday. So Lucie and I can come back to our home countries and enjoy the two weeks with our families and friends. And in the New Year, we will have enough power to learn Czech, do activities with you and discover the Czech culture. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! / Frhliche Weihnachten und ein gesundes neues Jahr! / Joyeux Nol et Bonne Anne!
