10 Things You Didn't Know About Shakespeare and His Time. English III, IV, AP Literature, & AP Language. This session will discuss what it was like to live in Shakespeare's time and connect how understanding the historic context of a piece of literature helps you have insight into meaning and makes deeper analysis possible (or just better). Presented by Elise Anderson & Kelly Scott. Wednesday, 9:30-10AM - Othello. Advertising for the Bard. Economics Lesson 3.4. This session covers how monopolistic competition uses advertising to lure customers to buy products. We will discuss some common advertising techniques. Students will collaborate to design an advertisement for one of Shakespeares plays (Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, or Macbeth). Presented by Heather Carter. Thursday, 6:30-7PM Macbeth. Cavete, Ides Martiis. Latin II Lessons 6.03 & 6.04 & Latin I. The classic story of the soothsayer's warning of the impending assassination of Julius Caesar including Calpurnia's dream and his decision to go to the Forum against her will at the advice of a 'friend' (one of the conspirators) who convinced him of a different interpretation of his wife's dream ~ that decision ending tragically for Caesar~ as best told by Shakespeare. Presented by Esther Branch. Wednesday, 9-9:30AM Othello. How Do I Love Poetry? Let Me Sing the Ways: Shakespeares Poetry Compared with Music. Language Arts 3 Lesson 5.04. Students will watch a brief clip of Romeo and Juliet. In small breakout groups, they will read a brief description of a main character from the play and they will create a list of objects that symbolizes the characters (and possibly conduct a web search). We will be discussing Julius Caesar with the use of Shakespearean language, ethical dilemmas, and persuasive appeals. After this session, students will be able to submit Betrayal Lessons 4-5 in English 2 (v10). Julius Caesar Acts I & II: English II instructors will walk you through Acts I & II of Julius Caesar, discussing the act of betrayal, historical context, and ethical dilemmas. Plot summaries will be included, as we work to make Shakespeare more accessible to all students. After this session, students will be able to submit Betrayal Lessons 1-3 in English 2 (v10). R&J: a Texting Tragedy. Driver Education/Traffic Safety Module 6 Teen Driving Project. Imagine Romeo and Juliet as a modern day teen couple. Would the most likely culprit of their tragic end be a double suicide, or an automobile accident? Join us as we uproot Romeo and Juliet from their traditional classical attributes and discuss the possible technological distractions that face these famous star crossed lovers. Help us to plot some solutions to prevent further tragic loss of young lives. Participation in this live lesson and submission of the questions given to you during the lesson will satisfy the requirements of the Driver Education Traffic/Safety: Module 6 Teen Driving Project. Students will use their graphing skills to determine whether a system of linear equations has no solutions, one solution, or infinitely many solutions and decide if Romeo and Juliet will ever get to be together. Science in Shakespeare's Time. Marine Science Lesson 4.11 & Anatomy/Physiology. We'll explore the general state of scientific beliefs in Shakespeare's time, then highlight some of the advances in the years immediately following his time. Biology Lesson 1.02. This lesson reviews art, philosophy, and religions in terms of scientific reasoning. Several articles, movies, and books were created that compared the way Shakespeare viewed the world in his plays to the Scientific Revolution. The scientific method- though altered with every few generations follows the same popular steps that Shakespeare himself used to evaluate his play writes and the messages he wanted to convey. Speed Shakespeare Not for the Faint of Heart. US History. A one hour overview of many of the works of William Shakespeare. This is a roller-coaster ride of lesson that will keep you hopping, including Hamlet, told at lightning speeds. This lesson brings new life to Shakespeare and will leave you convince you that the Bard is more than "much ado about nothing. Presented by Chestina Cloum. Wednesday, 10-11AM Macbeth. Spontaneous Generation in Shakespeare's Hamlet. Biology Lesson 3803. There is a scene in Hamlet in which Hamlet mentions the belief that maggots spontaneously form in the corpse of a dead animal. This is because people in Hamlet's day believed in Spontaneous Generation. This presentation will be about what was thought in the past about Spontaneous Generation, how Louis Pasteur and Francesco Redi showed that biogenesis rather than spontaneous generation is correct, and how spontaneous generation differs from abiogenesis. We will discuss foods commonly eaten in England during Shakespeare's time, look up calories and basic nutrients and compare those to the daily recommended allowances of today to see how they would rate.
