As the weather begins to get hot, the special programs and opportunities at your community Center are on the rise, too! Whether you want to show off your pride at Philadelphia Gay Pride or join the Center for a festive barbecue style party on the Fourth of July, theres tons to enjoy while youre trying to stay cool. For the first time, the Monday - Friday 9:00 AM William Way LGBT 10:00 PM Community Center is Saturday / Sunday planning a festive Fourth 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM of July potluck. Much like the Thanksgiving Effective Memorial Day Potluck and Holiday Weekend Potluck, the Fourth of July Celebration will welcome all community members into the Center for some summer-style food and backyard games! While we might not have a backyard here at the Center, our lobby will serve as the suburban patio weve always wanted! If youre interested in proudly demonstrating your commitment to the LGBT community, consider joining the William Way LGBT Community Center volunteers, members, and staff as they represent the Center marching in the Philadelphia

Summer Happenings at Your Center

New Summer Hours:

Center Spotlight:

Gay Pride Parade on June 13! As in years past, the Center will take part in the march and have an informational booth at the center of Pride at Penns Landing. Volunteers and proud marchers are needed, so contact us at 215-732-2220 if you would like to participate in an event thats integral to the identity of our diverse LGBT family. And, the first 50 RSVPS receive FREE admission to the festival!

For those art aficionados, the Annual Juried Art Competition show runs through July 9, 2010, in the Centers Art Gallery. During normal business hours, summer visitors can view some of the best works made by local and emerging LGBT artists. These fascinating, provocative works were submitted and judged during the Annual Juried Art Competition in May and offer visitors keen insights into the talents of the artistic LGBT community. These are just some of the ways you can enjoy summer while stopping by the Center! As a reminder, the Center is taking some time to cool off just like everyone else in Philadelphia and has changed its weekend hours. Starting Memorial Day weekend, the Centers weekend hours will change to 11:00 AM 7:00 PM. Weekday hours will remain 9:00 AM 10:00 PM, so make sure you make the most of summer and stop by the Center!

Dear Jessie and Jordan,

Ask Jessie and Jordan

I know the Center does a lot of good as far as programs like Peer Counseling and the Recovery Room, but does the Center have any social groups? Something fun and casual? -Game Seeker Dear GS:

Every Monday, the Bridge Club meets for party bridge at 2:00 PM for those experienced looking for a fun, challenging game! And, every Sunday, the Chess Club meets welcoming players of all skill levels interested in sharpening their skills and meeting friends. Along with Bridge and Chess, the Center offers Mah-jongg for both experienced and new players every Thursday at both 12:00 PM and 7:30 PM. With all these options, were sure well see you around soon! -Jessie and Jordan, the Dancing W's j e s s i e a n d j o r d a n @ w a y g a y. o r g

Thanks for the compliment on the good work we do for the community here at the Center! Our Center is unique in that it not only helps those going through difficult times, but it also helps unite LGBT folks in social settings too!
