Symptoms

From the drive test, following symptoms will be observed when downloading files to/from the operators server (or the known public server) by FTP. Average UL or DL throughput of the radio access bearer is much lower than the data rate of the known source or Round trip time is very long or Many missing packets. 1 Low data throughput

From the performance statistics, following symptoms will be observed: Common to PS64/64 up-switch rate is very high. Dedicated to common down-switch rate, i.e. is very high.

Reason Proposed Solution Poor radio link qualities:Poor radio links lead error bits in packet. In order to recover the packet, AM RLC retransmits the problematic packets. However, too many retransmissions cause longer RTT and the date throughput consequently decreases.

Many down-switches due to coverage triggering: If PS64/384 or PS64/128 radio bearer and pilot coverage are imbalanced, the channel switching function then switches it down to the radio bearer in the next lower bit rate so as to maintain the connection when it reaches to the coverage border. However, the overall throughput of the connection becomes lower. High FACH usage:From the performance statistics, high average FACH usage per cell, is found *Improper up-switch thresholds *Improper down-switch timer setting The up-switch thresholds Upswitch (FACH -> DCH) threshold for single RAB UL and Upswitch (FACH -> DCH) threshold for single RAB DL should be adjusted to the suitable values. In P2 UTRAN, it is recommended to set the Upswitch (FACH -> DCH) threshold for single RAB UL and Upswitch (FACH -> DCH) threshold for single RAB DL to be 256 and 500bytes, respectively.

Solution-2

The down-switch timer Downswitch timer single RAB should be adjusted to a suitable value. Normally, it is less than two seconds. The Downswitch timer single RAB timer is a RNC parameter. Changing it will affect entire cells in the RNC.

The down-switch threshold Throughput threshold starting downswitch timer single RAB should be adjusted to a suitable value. In P2 UTRAN, it is recommended to set it to be 8kbps.
