How to Use Tools in Adobe Photoshop CS6

If you've got Photoshop CS6 and aren't sure how the tools work, this guide can help.

Steps
1: Review all the options. The tools can be found in your icon enu. !et fa iliar with which
icon gives you access to each tool. "ou can pick different types of selection tools by a long click on the tool, and then choosing the appropriate tool, like #ectangular $ar%uee, &lliptical $ar%uee, Single #ow $ar%uee, or single Colu n $ar%uee. This long click option works on every tool e'cept $ove tool and (oo tool) you can change different type of tool fro single tool sets.

2: Select different areas of o!r i"a#e as needed. There are several tools to help*

Rectan#!lar $ar%!ee tool: Pick the tool by clicking it, and then click and drag on an area of i age to select it. $ove tool: "ou can click and drag to for placing the ob+ects ,layers-. ove selected layer by using this tool. $ainly this tool is used

Pol #onal &asso tool: It is also used for selection purpose like #ectangular $ar%uee tool, but it gives you freedo of shape. "ou can ake any shape anually for selection, to do that, first pick the tool then start clicking on different points and then click on the starting point to co plete your selection, or +ust press enter. .y long click you can choose lasso tool and can draw freehand stroke to select an area. $a#ic 'and tool: /ust work like agic for selection. Click on a point of i age and it will auto atically select the area based on color values.

(: Clip o!r i"a#e, using the Crop tool. "ou can crop the i age using this tool. /ust click and
drag to define the area you want to crop and press enter.

): $atch colors fro" o!r i"a#e !sin# the * edropper tool. 0ith it, you can pick a
color fro your i age. "ou can click anywhere in your i age to pick the color, and then you can use that color for painting or any purpose you can think of.

+: Repair i"a#e iss!es with the Spot Healin# ,r!sh tool. .y using this tool you can
heal the unwanted spots in your i age. /ust choose the tool and paint on the spot you don't want in your i age, it will agically disappear.

6: Use a variet of tools to draw on o!r i"a#es.

,r!sh tool: a favorite of artists and Painters, which is used for painting. "ou can ad+ust si1e and type by right clicking on the work area ,I age-. Clone Sta"p tool: It's used for cloning the one part of the i age to another part. Choose the tool and then hold alt key and then click on the area you want to clone, then leave the alt key and start painting on the area where you want to clone. Histor ,r!sh tool: 2istory .rush tool is used to reveal the initial state of i age, when you opened the i age in Photoshop. 3or e'a ple if you have ade a colored i age black and white ,alt4shift4ctrl4.- and then if you start painting with 2istory .rush tool, wherever you paint a stroke the i age will beco e colored there. Pen tool: This tool is used to ake vector shapes. Choose the tool and then click on any point inside the canvas, then click on any other point of the i age, if you want a rounded corner hold the click and drag it farther to ake a rounded corner. Co plete the shape by clicking on the start point or +ust pressing enter.

-: *rase areas with the *raser tool. It's used to erase the brush strokes or the i age layers. .: Create effects in specific areas of the i"a#e.
/radient tool: this tool can ake a gradient of color in the selected area or within the whole i age.

Choose the tool and then click and drag in the direction you want your gradient to be. !radient also depend on the length of your drag stroke. ,l!r tool: this tool is used to blur the i age or brush strokes. /ust choose the tool and paint the area you want to blur. 0od#e tool: this tool is used to lighten the dark area of i age. /ust choose the tool and start painting on the i age.

1: Add writin# with the Te2t tool. This tool is used to add te't to your i age. Choose the tool
and click on any point to add te't there.

13: Add and ad4!st shapes in o!r i"a#e.

0irect or Path Selection tool. This tool is used to select the shapes created by pen tool or shape tool, and also used to odify the shapes. *llipse 5 Shape tool. This tool is used to create predefined tool like #ectangle, 5ine, star etc. Choose the tool and if you want to draw any other shape then change the shape and then click and drag to draw that shape. 2old the shift to keep the proportion intact.

11: Ad4!st o!r view as needed while o! wor6 on o!r i"a#e.

Hand tool: This tool is used to pan the i age. Choose tool and then click and drag to pan the canvas. 7oo" tool: This tool is used for 1oo ing the i age. Choose the tool and then click on the i age to 1oo in, hold 6lt and then click to 1oo out.

7se the tools setting by right clicking in the canvas area, or +ust using the options below "ou can see the shortcut for a tool by hovering the clicking the tool. enu bar.

If you are trying to use tools in an e pty layer, any tools doesn't work.

6fter cropping the i age, the 2istory .rush tool doesn't work. "ou cannot select an e pty layer.
