Questions What is the OS on which Cognos needs to be set-up? Also please share the version of OS. Which version and Components of Cognos needs to be installed? Is the UAT a distributed environment and replica of Production or a stand-alone environment? What will be to database for Content Store? What will be the Authentication Mode? Will there be separate Server(s) for setting up the environment or it has to be shared with other application Servers? Any other applications apart from Cognos required to be installed (eg. Database set-up or any ETL installations)? Any specific Configurations are needed to be carried out post standard installation that exist in other environments (DEV/PRO Which webserver will be used? Suggestion: ISAPI or CGI type of gateway needs to be used Performance wise, ISAPI type of gateway is suggested. But, CGI is most popularly used. What will be the user base/load? Suggestion: If user base is > 800 to 1000 and if there are more num# of jobs/schedules are running, better we suggest Distributed Installation. Type of Users/Groups (Authentication) for security? What will be hadware configuration for Production which is based on Performance variables 1. Capacity(User load), 2. Scalablity(Distributed/No. of Servers), 3. Availability(Load Balancing)? Load balancing options? Which Application server will be used? Best Practice: An App Server should be compliant with J2EE specification for App Server. Oracle Weblogic is the best option. Also we can go for IBM Websphere. Does it require Audit Logging Database? Best Practice: Audit & Notification DB should be used. For Delivery of reports 1. Whether reports need to be saved to a File System (Setting of Burting the reports)? 2. Whether Mail server needs to be configured? 3. Whether Printer setup is required? Any Portal Customizations? Peak load timings & Off-peak load timings? Based on above query, we can decide BI performance & app server(JVM) Tuning. Whether Distribution Lists need to be created? Leveraging of new functionalities in newer version after Upgrade? I am Assuming its a distributed/clustered environment.
