Casual/Bank Worker
Contents
The Team Leader reports to an Area Manager who is responsible for all the clusters in a given
area. It is a structure which has staff and resident support at its core.
This organisational set up is fresh to St Matthew Housing with this in mind; SMH has set out a
training package which will ensure all house staff has the tools to do the job effectively. This is
a real opportunity for new members of staff to gain valuable skills and learn new approaches
which can be transferred to their day-to-day environment. This training framework also
promotes career development within the organisation
ensuring that staff can see a real future within SMH or the sector generally. In 2009 we plan to
offer in house NVQ training
You will have many questions about how the organisation works and specifically about the
roles and functions of the new posts. Many of these can be answered in the attached job
descriptions or on the website (www.stmatthewhousing.org). However, if you have more
detailed enquiries speak to the Human Resources Department on 01284 732571.
Thank you for taking an interest in St Matthew Housing and the exciting challenges that lay
ahead for this charity. SMH is laying the foundations for a new team – if you are interested in
helping it take shape please complete the enclosed forms. We look forward to hearing from
you.

Company Sick Pay
Casual employees are not entitled to either Occupational or Statutory Sickness pay from St Matthew
Housing.
Business Mileage is not payable for travel from home to normal place to work. In exceptional
circumstances where an individual is asked to cover a scheme some distance from their home/normal
cluster of working mileage reimbursement may be agreed. Business mileage will be paid for travel to
training courses (minus normal home to work base mileage).
All new staff have tailored orientation programmes to help them settle into their new roles quickly and
will have core training provided for their job.
We operate a performance management system which addresses individual’s longer term training and
development needs. To ensure all staff are supported they have regular one to one meetings with their
line manager.
We have a comprehensive employee training programme with a range of job related topics and from
2009 plan to move to offering in-house NVQ training.
There is an expectation that Casual/Bank Workers will be available to attend induction and core
mandatory training (payment at £8.25 per hour).
Probationary Period
St Matthew’s operates a six month probationary period for all staff. The purpose of the probationary
period is to ensure that a new candidate is able to gain a full understanding of the requirements of the
post and to achieve a satisfactory level of performance.
