12 Angry Men

The battle between reason and emotion in 12 angry men was very strong and well demonstrated throughout the jurors. It was evident to see that from the beginning that juror number eight was interested in this case from both a logical and emotional point of view. Unfortunately he was the only juror that displayed this in the movie the others jurors were on either side at times. !eing that as soon as the jurors were dismissed to deliberate the fate of the young "ispanic male that was accused of #illing his father in a fit of rage they were ready to ma#e their votes for guilty and leave. $ust so they would not interrupt their schedules but juror number eight wanted to ta#e as long as it too# to analy%e the information reasonably. At this point the jurors who believed the defendant was not guilty wor#ed together to prove to the one opposing man that justice would only be found if they returned a verdict of not guilty not a hung jury. They proved this man wrong by using his personal e&periences in life to draw him into a series of contradictions which ended up brea#ing him down to the point of tears in which he gave a not guilty vote as well. Through many of the jurors using emotion as a reason to ma#e a person guilty they ended up e&posing a very dar# and prejudice side to themselves to the point where it became noticeable even to themselves because they believed that everyone else thin#s the same way. 'or e&ample when the elderly coughing juror went on a rant about (they)re from the slums* (It)s what they are* and so on which was painfully obvious to see how prejudice he truly was and how his emotions bac#fired on him to only #now that he was logically wrong in his statement and actions.

This is why I believe that it is not completely wrong to use emotion but ma#e sure to bac# it up with some #ind of reasoning as well. Another e&ample would be when the angry juror #eep disagreeing with the not guilty point of views primarily because the case itself sounded a little bit too close to home as he stated earlier in the movie about how he and his son got into a argument and he ran+away from home. The difference was what he was going through and the defendant was that it could have been his son in that seat accused of the same crime and he deep down #new that possibility. In this movie it shows how clearly that most people will jump onto side that they are most comfortable with. Usually their emotions rather than thin#ing about the (what if)s* and ("ow comes* because it will put their ethics into ,uestion more than anything else will. -ome people rather be wrong with the emotions that ma#es them feel right rather than being right and having to rethin# their morals and.or ethics to see the larger picture.
