Grammar: The Passive forms of Gerunds and Infinitives.


Use the passive form of a gerund or an infinitive to focus on an action instead of on who
performed the action.
Use being and a past participle to form a passive gerund.
1. I enjoy being entertained: where being is the gerund and
entertained is the verb in passive ( past participle)
Use to be and a past participle to form a passive infinitive.
Example: I dont expect to be told the truth when the students dont bring the homework. Where to be
is the infinitive and told is the passive ( verb in past participle)

Grammar: Order of Modifiers.

The use of this article is used in a very careful way because you only use it when you are referring to
something specific. See the bold type words used in the same two sentences.
Demonstrative adjectives are used to show which item is being mentioned within a statement, and
there are four (4) of them. This That, These and Those.
a. This is used to show something singular near you.
b. These is used to show something plural that is near you.
c. That is used to show something singular that is far away from you.
d. Those is used to show something in plural that is far away.
Possessive adjectives: My, your, his, her, its, your, our, their. They are used to show possession:
a. Her name is Claudia and her house is the one on the corner.
b. He is Peter Smith, and his car is a Mercedes Benz.
c. Their subjects at school require a lot of study.
d. My only obligation at this age is to study, be responsible, be a good son /daughter, an honest
person and a respectful human being.
Possessive Nouns are nouns that show possession.
Instead of saying: the name of my sister is Maria, you change
it saying: My sisters name is Maria. The possessive noun Marias is represented by an
apostrophe and an s.

Ordinal Numbers: First second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth. Twentieth, thirtieth,
Cardinal Numbers: One two, three, four, five, six, ten twenty.
A hundred, one thousand.

Quantifiers: one, a few, some, many


A few is used in countable nous like: a few people know The Queen of England.
A few students go to remedial each year.
A few apples are ripe.
Some is used to answer a question of how much is there of an item that cant be counted like: sugar, salt
love, happiness, etc.

How much sugar is there in the kitchen cabinet?


There is some.
How much salt is there on the table? There is some.
Or, it can also be used in countable nouns like: some students didnt come on Friday.
The word many can be used only with countable nouns.
Example: Many students dont like to live away from their parents.
It can also be used with how many.
Example: How many brothers do you have?
How many times have you been to San Antonio?
When a modifier is a noun, never use a plural form.
Example: A delicious vegetable soup.
Hyphenate compound modifiers. When they precede a noun dont use a plural form!!
Example: A two- year old boy was found lost in the woods last month.
A ten speed bicycle was bought for Michael this year.
Adjectives are used to modify the noun.
Example: A tall, American guy is visiting the school.
A beautiful, round, Mexican, crystal bowl was my first weeding gift.
(All these bold type words are called adjectives).

Learn vocabulary of ways to express fear and fearlessness.

Study book, page 120. Use connecting words to express a comment or to criticize anothers person
spoken or written ideas. Present your reasons logically, using connecting words, to give reasons and to
sequence your ideas.
Example: I disagree because I think people actually have lots of free time today.
