1925 - 2002 | The spirit of Per Uddn lives on in Permobil. Per Uddn was in many respects an unusual person. Driven by his pure inex tinguishable curiosity and desire to turn ideas into real solutions, he was constantly tr ying out new ideas. Permobil is without doubt his best known invention. Per Uddn and his wife Ann-Britt had nine children, some of whom also worked for Permobil. The memory of this visionary, with his totally unique style and view of life, inevitably brings a smile to the faces of family members, staff and Permobil users all round the world.
Life is a mystery. It's simple but true. We humans are still adrift, ignorant of the reasons and the origin of our existence. Of course there are all kinds of theories, from scientic to religious, but the riddle of life is still unsolved. Yet we do now know one thing with certainty, and that is that life itself is the greatest gift. And every human has a right to a full, valuable and richly varied life. Put in black and white it seems obvious, but in real life, as we all know, it is far from always the case. Far too many people never get the opportunities that they should have. For anyone who is handicapped, in whatever way, the problem is especially clear. Not least because daily tasks are hardly ever easy. On an ordinary day there are all kinds of trivialities that happen time and again which most of us regard as simple. Showering, collecting the post, taking the dog out, letting the neighbour in, making coffee or making the bed. But if for example your legs do not work, it suddenly isn't as simple. And this insight is essential. For us at Permobil this is our guideline. It was and is our most important task to solve daily problems for people with handicaps. Every electric wheelchair that we make has to provide a solution to the specic needs of a unique individual. We never forget that. The many electric wheelchairs that we make are only a drop in the ocean. But every chair meets the needs of an individual, and he or she hereby gains a chance to lead life in a better and simpler way. Not that wheels can ever replace someone's legs, but a smart, individually-adapted wheelchair can solve problems which are otherwise almost insurmountable. Being able to contribute to something as important as this is extraordinarily inspiring. We are proud of what we do, but we are not yet satised. And we will never be. The unique needs of people with handicaps mean that we are constantly trying to nd new and better solutions. Just a few years ago who would have thought that you could control a wheelchair with your mouth? Over the years we have learned what is important and what isn't. We normally have the necessary practical skills in house. At the same time we know that we cannot work miracles. Because as we said, no matter how good a wheelchair may be, it still cannot replace someone's legs or arms. Yet a good chair can ensure that life and daily activities go smoothly. Maybe life is a mystery, but you still have to take care of it.
For more than 40 years we have worked with and for people with a range of disabilities. We have met and got to know tens of thousands of people who have described the reality of their lives, their dreams and needs for us. Our History
About 40 years ago Permobil was born in Timr, Sweden, in a basement workshop owned by the inventor, entrepreneur and doctor, Per Uddn. Per Uddn was in many regards an unusual person. He was driven by an irresistible desire to discover new solutions for the questions which confronted him in his work as a doctor. Dr. Uddn had many ideas for improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. He believed that everyone had the right to a full life, to the extent of their potential. The electric wheelchair was an idea that in the mid-1960s led to an initial prototype. This electric wheelchair had unique technical solutions for its time, such as powered seat tilt, fold-away armrests and leg rests, and front wheel drive. Per Uddn was a true pioneer and we are proud to follow in his footsteps and that the company bears his name Permobil. In 1965 our founder, Per Uddn, declared, Every person with disabilities has the right to compensate as far as possible for his or her handicap with aids of the same technical standard as those we all use in our daily lives. The creativity, curiosity and humanistic world view characteristic of Per Uddn and his work formed the basis on which Permobil now stands. Today, tens of thousands people around the entire world experience a richer life, thanks to this unusual person and his ideas.

Many thought it was impossible to improve the Corpus seating system. But once again, with the introduction of the Corpus 3G, Permobil shows its determination to strive for perfection. Permobil's Corpus 3G has been developed in collaboration with the original world-renowned designer of the Corpus, the Swedish ergonomics expert Bengt Engstrm. The design makes use of the blueprint of Engstrm's concept of interactive counterpressure. It incorporates state-ofthe-art ergonomic design, as well as electrical and mechanical technology, to create a powerful seating system unifying form and function.

About 30 years ago Permobil was the rst to introduce the centre wheel drive to the market. Continuing our rich tradition of new ideas, we are now extending our range of products with the M400. Developed by the senior designers at Permobil, Mehdi Mirzaie and Bo Engman, the M400 features the new Climbing and Traction Link system. The M400 has a compact format, a small turning radius of 510 mm, and is tted with PG 120 A R-net electronics. There are two speed packages available: 10 km/hr as standard and 12 km/hr as an option. The easy-to-maintain M400 offers quick access to its components and requires no special tools for maintenance.

With the Corpus seating system you can tilt your seat and raise it by up to 200 mm. FUNCTIONS
PROBLEMS ARE THERE TO BE SOLVED The Octopus goes a step further than the Magic Drive. Thanks to the exibility of the Octopus almost any problem can be solved. Simply nodding your head or a minimal movement of your nger is enough. Advanced technology opens up opportunities. For many people with a handicap the Octopus makes the difference between doing it yourself or having to ask forhelp. The Octopus uses the latest technology, so you can control your environment in the way you want to. With the record function you can record sound for later use as short, spoken messages or audio feedback. Youcan operate the Octopus via the touchscreen, your wheelchair's joystick, buttons, a USB keyboard, etc. The inbuilt mobile telephone solution guarantees reliability in emergencies. With the TTS (text to speech) function you can call someone and talk to them even if you have no voice.

CONTROLS OCTOPUS
A CO-PILOT WHICH IS ALMOSTINVISIBLE

When operating a wheelchair it is important to companions that the chair is easy to control. Permobil's new Copilot for wheelchairs that are operated by companions works quite differently to earlier versions of companion control. The major advantage of the Co-pilot is that it requires hardly any muscle strength and control of the wheelchair is extremely intuitive; as simple as guiding a pushchair. The control system responds immediately when the speed or direction change. The Co-pilot also has the unique function that the companion can control the chair functions and speed.
CO-PILOT
CONTROL BAR Take a rm grip of the control bar and the wheelchair starts to move in the desired direction. Push slightly to the right and the chair moves easily to the right. As you walk faster, the chair's speed also increases. The responsive control makes driving the chair safer and easier both for the companion and for the wheelchair user.
HANDLES The ergonomic grip can be neatly folded away when not in use.
ERGONOMICS The height and angle of the ergonomic grip can be adjusted for greater ease of use by the companion.

BODY SUPPORT UNITRACK
SIMPLICITY BY DESIGN
The Unitrack system from Permobil combines a number of modular elements which together offer you a madeto-measure t for optimal body support. Simply select the right support and the appropriate adjustable joint and t them where required. The system is innitely adaptable and adjustable. Only a half-turn of the rapid release handle is needed to remove the support. There are no protrusions on the handle so it will not catch on anything. The Unitrack system is exclusively designed for the Corpus seating system.
ADJUSTABLE JOINTS These can be used to rotate the supports and lock them in the right place. Adjustments are graduated so as to allow an endless variety of settings.
ARTIFICIAL LEG SUPPORT For support of an articial leg. Easy to adjust height, depth, angle and width. Simple to remove - just a half-turn on the handle.
Lateral supports For lateral support of the trunk. Easy to adjust height, depth and width. Also easy to rotate away to either side.
Calf supports The calf supports can be rotated 360 o using rails. Height, depth, width and angle are also adjustable.
